All those coaches were sacked as well.
-
What senior coaches should they have chased? Lyon refused the process, which says a lot about him, Buckley is an iffy prospect at best given the last few years, Leon Cameron is no good. They literally never said "senior coach". I hate Essendon and it's GF day, so I'm gonna tap out anyway, have a ripper day OD.
-
Not sure where I said it was the same thing mate. Just said I thought they clarified that. There's not exactly a ton of senior coaches to choose from who are still any good. Old mate Ross "Not a vibe" Lyon decided he's too good to interview for jobs, Buckley's been shown up this year, Malthouse should be in a home, WIlliams is miles off from that kind of job and Brad Scott will probably put his hand up too late.
-
Not really tbh, thought it made perfect sense. They want a coach who has at least come up through the ranks, done the courses, done the training, been an understudy etc. Especially makes sense within the context of when they brought in Hird the first time and how that went for them.
-
Certainly seems Yze, Hird, Solomon, Lade and possibly Caracella and Brad Scott do, so not sure I agree with the first part. Definitely agree it's a high risk job though.
-
Josh Mahoney clarified that as meaning someone with plenty of coaching experience, not necessarily as a senior coach.

Not my recollection at all. The cup toured around with club reps. Goody and co have done numerous sports nights etc, but that's standard fare during any season. Hardly think that would have any impact on their 2022 performance. Perhaps try reading my reply more carefully. There's a LOT of context around why it couldn't be done and dusted by November. That being said, the cup clearly WAS the centre of attention once preseason got going. There's a Premiership Cup tour every year. This is clearly an unusual circumstance given COVID. Trac literally said they trained harder than ever this year. It's all in your own mind. Lol.

Sure, it may seem short to us but that's how the press cycle works. After all the research, fact checking and legal that goes into a story like this it's really more of a courtesy/tradition for them to contact those involved and ask for comment. As far as I know it's not a legal requirement to do so.
-
That's standard practice in all media circles LH. In fact, the phone call to offer more time is on the generous side. This is done to prevent others breaking the story and trying to diffuse or change the narrative to suit themselves.

Who says we didn't ask before he re-signed and he said no? We've asked the question of other key forwards this year and they said no. I just think the logic of a player dropped for a GF being a target is off the mark. I'll leave it at that.
-
An out of contract 21 year old who has headed home. Sure. I'm keen to chase a key forward or two mate, I just think this is off the mark bothering to try and get Logan “The Sydney Swans is the only place I ever wanted to be" McDonald. Not sure what Grundy has to do with anything. Nowhere did I mention him.
-
So a 20 year old former number 4 pick signs until the end of 2024, in March this year, gets dropped and all of a sudden we can pry him out of a Grand Final team? Nah.
-
How do you propose they had it 'done and dusted by the start of November' when there were still lockdowns up until what, February? The fans all missed out, the fans that had waited 57 years, and you want the celebrations to wrap up before the fans in the heartland even get a chance to celebrate? Ridiculous call. I don't recall the players and coaches touring the state either, that was club reps and the premiership cup as far as I can recall.

That's not really what I took any of that as, at all. Seemed more like he was saying they took the good times last year for granted, not this season. He said they trained harder than ever this year - not something you'd do/say if you were taking the season for granted. Think you're trying to create something that isn't there.

100% mate! I agree with you about simply dropping players for the sake of blooding newbies, I was more on about gradually bringing through some newbies to relieve the physical pressure on the sore/injured players.
-
Love Disco! And reckon he's gonna be a player for us, but I don't see him as a stay at home defender just yet, more of an intercept type a bit like Lever, plus we would have 0 depth in that position if Tommo left and Petty went forward.
-
If Tomlinson is traded I reckon you can close this thread...
-
20 years old, re-signed a few months back, dropped for one game (albeit a Grand Final)... Not gonna happen.
-
TBF though, there were a lot of posters on here, and fans in general, increasingly questioning this as the year went on. There definitely is a lot of Captain Hindsight as well, but the management piece was brought up often during the year.
-
That's a completely different conversation that I wasn't commenting on though...

Lol turn it up mate. Without having in-depth medical records, KPIs and GPS data no one can go through "week by week" and make those calls accurately. Ridiculous comment and you know it. If you balanced it out and brought it through gradually you just need the players coming in to play a role, they don't have to play out of the box. That's what depth is. The Watts comparison is absurd and we are past those days. 'Dropping' a player is not the same as managing a player. How do you think Chris Scott explained 'dropping' Joel Selwood?
