  1. Few years back I was chatting with the (at the time) graphic designer at the club and she mentioned that their hands are a bit tied with merch as they tend to find the 'uglier' stuff just sells better. There's also some restrictions from AFL licensing and apparel manufacturers, but yeah apparently the uglier the better.
  2. Have vague memories of us not manning marks as a tactic under Daniher for a while back in the day. Am I imagining that?
  3. Might have already been canvassed here, so apologies if so, but does that player have to stand the mark? In particular, I'm thinking of the circumstance where there is a 2 on 1, a forward takes a mark 50m out and his team mate runs towards goal with no one on him. The man on the mark wouldn't be allowed to defend properly and the attacking player running in would get basically a 'free shot'.
  4. If we were to lose Clarry to Carlton, it would be because he's chasing money and because the coaches had decided his down sides had not progressed. So while it would initially seem traumatic for us fans, it wouldn't be the end of the world (especially given the trade currency it would open up). I'd be shattered to lose him, I don't want to lose him, but I think it would tell us a lot about him if we did.
  5. 6'9" 20 year old who has been with us just over 2 years. Not exactly panicking yet.
  6. Richo this morning: "‘Browny’ with a cartilage. We’re hoping that he’d be back between Round 4 and Round 6. It will depend a little bit on how he responds to his program."
  7. Sorry for interrupting your blog then. Proceed.
  8. Mate, I get where you're coming from, I don't think anyone is legitimately excited by the prospect, but I don't know how else to put it to you other than that's just the complexities for balancing a list IMO. He's clearly 'capable' of playing AFL footy given he's played 11 seasons. Not that I think there's a high chance of him being called upon often should he get a list spot though.
  9. Why is depth 'dreaded' exactly? This is how a list works. You don't have 40+ A graders, it's just not possible. Clearly with our list situation, not just this year, but with our forthcoming OOC players there's a big picture to look at. Daw isn't even on our list yet, he's just been given a chance to show some form that might grant him a rookie spot. Even if he manages a spot it's probably unlikely he'll play AFL level, but with Brown and Weid out, Jackson still a youngster, Petty coming off no preseason, our main insurance ruck gone, McDonald a gamble at best, Tomlinson not a forward, Lever and May both with recent injury history, OMac gone etc etc it makes sens to me to be looking at a mature swingman as very very cheap insurance.
  10. You could also say, we already have Jackson, Weid, Petty and Bradtke as young developing talls, it's good to have some mature backup to balance out the list.
  11. We've all done it a bit in this thread hey?
  12. Incorrect. It wasn't one instantaneous and continuous stream as such. It intensified during 2014 and hit it's peak in 2015.
  13. You took quite a long paragraph there to illustrate how much you don't understand. No one has said change the date and everything is fixed. Your straw man arguments are plain silly. 1. Telling Indigenous people they should get over it because if it was the French it may have been worse is idiotic. 2. Other invasions happening through history don't diminish the suffering felt by Indigenous Australians. 3. "Take control of their own life"....? You've managed to illustrate with that statement how much you don't understand. 4. 'How many Indigenous friends do I have?' Is that a serious comment? Does having Indigenous friends mean you understand systematic racism and the hurt of Australian society felt by them? Pretty obviously not given your ignorant comments. Members of my family, including my kids, have Indigenous ancestry. My best mate is an Indigenous artist and Reconciliation Speaker. I still have close mates from sports years where I played in predominantly Indigenous teams. I've also stayed in remote communities volunteering in arts & education programs for Indigenous kids. Does that start to paint a picture for you? Does that give me cred in your eyes now? No? See how that works. I couldn't give a stuff about you parading your "heaps" of Indigenous friends around, it has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on your abhorrent views. 5. You don't know me. We've never met. Your assumptions about me say more about you. 6. If you truly had "many Indigenous friends" I very much doubt you'd be throwing around this "victim" narrative you've chosen to throw about.
  14. I don't reckon anyone has ever said that Australia would never have been invaded otherwise or that invasion was an experience unique to Indigenous Australians. Neither of those things are points being raised. Eddie's "proud day" is a microcosm of white Australia's approach to racism in this country. Don't admit any wrong doing, don't say sorry, just tell everyone it's in the past and they should just get over it as where not racist anymore, are we?
  15. You can't always just 'move on' when things have not even been dealt with properly, let alone still celebrated.
  16. What date to the Brits celebrate that invasion day? Or the Irish their invasion? Easy to say 'move on' when it's not your invasion being celebrated.
  17. The evidence is there over hundreds of years, you just refuse to see it.
  18. You don't understand how his birthplace, ancestry or mental health impacts his "privilege"? Righto. He's retired from football yes, but he hasn't ceased working. I get that you don't like him, you've made that painfully obvious, what you haven't managed to explain is how that is any relevance at all to his experience of racism. Although I shouldn't expect much in the way of empathy from anyone who uses the term "virtue signallers". You've really outed yourself here and you don't even see it.
  19. Very much agree that Eddie, and his family, should be considered in all this and unless I've missed it I haven't really seen anything to vitriolic around the traps. Disagree a little about the nature of his downfall though, that was all his own doing. He had the mic.
  20. "Worked bloody hard to become an AFL footballer" is what I think you meant to say. Lumumba was born close to a port where his ancestors were brought as slaves. He moved across the world at age 3 and adopted a different first name so that it was easier for the kids at school. He's copped way way worse then "Chimp" at Collingwood. Maybe put in some research that isn't fed to you by Rupert, especially given it's now known there were journalists who completely made up quotes and attributed them to him in search of clicks and attention. He's also dealt with depression. Yeah. So privileged. I strongly suggest reading this article: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-12-05/heritier-lumumba-strength-in-african-culture-collingwood-afl/12820942
  21. Couldn't care less if you agree or this whole idea of "narrative" you keep pushing, that's simply what it is and is why the 'others didn't get booed' logic doesn't stack up. You've just further made my point for me by bringing up Betts & O'Loughlin. Long and Goodes' scenarios are not really similar. You may want to look into the response Long got at first though, including death threats mailed to him. Doesn't seem you're really THAT up on the story mate. Plus there's the fact he was combating onfield racism and was strongly supported by the AFL. Wasn't exactly the same with Goodes hey? Winmar had a poignant moment after being racially abused for a whole day in horrendous ways. Not at all similar to Goodes who was booed more intensely after winning Australian Of The Year and having numerous public appearances totally misrepresented by the media. Let's not forget that Eddie said Goodes would have been treated better if he had 'given some warning' before doing his goal celebration; an Indigenous dance taught to him by Indigenous kids, after he (an Indigenous man) had just kicked an Indigenous ball through for a goal while wearing an Indigenous jumper in Indigenous round... Stop making excuses for others and clearly yourself.
  22. Disagree. The 'nub of the Goodes issue' is that he didn't 'know his place' and in Australia's particular racist environment if you're a 'minority' and dare to stand up to racism, be proud of your heritage and/or challenge people's internalized or casual racism then you will be hounded until you're back in the little box where we like you.
  23. Sound like Eddie will be stepping down. Presser shortly.
