  1. You can't have it both ways WCW. You want ( and I do to) more at games and by that more interest from fans. First timers are perfectly entitled to comment positively or negatively to show they care. If the performance deserves credits that will be taken care of and equally if off the boil criticism is a given it is understandable. Last week was the worst MFC AFL or AFLW performance for a decade since 100 pt thrashings in 2013. If the grapevine talk is even remotely near about Covid or similar we are now in Chris Scott 2021 Prelim Final territory and we don't want to go down that path. Our team has indisputably earnt the right of a second chance but if any of the last 3 performances are repeated that will be curtains I fear. However there is too much class and spirit in this side to give away this opportunity without a real fight so like a champion horse does I believe we will win in a tight one and live to play the Lions again in Brisbane.
  2. Disagree Can work in Bye for both Tigers and us around our tricky Wed night Anzac Eve fixture. Tiges play Suns in opening round on Coast so easier to match up I presume for 2 teams to have same bye dates around their fixture.
  3. Will have to be a West Coast game as we play Freo in the Alice in Round 10. As haven’t played WC at G for ages you might be unlucky with no Optus game in WA in ‘24.
  4. How do Pies rest players because of Day games in blocks? Seriously don’t remember much Resting other than last Round and we all had a bye afterwards. If you are talking of handling players conservatively we did that that’s not resting. Please name the blocks of day games after winter and Pies also finished season with 3 successive Friday night games at G and Marvel if I am correct.
  5. Not sure about these posts. Are they unofficial or guesses or confirmed facts from a reliable source? My response is and this is just my gut feel common sense and footy facts chipping in. (1) Anzac Eve match is a given vs Tigers. If you are alluding to a bye before then Round 5 ( probably same for Tigers as well) it’s a Wed night so that might be the Bye before Round 6 as (if) Anzac Eve is considered as a Round 6 fixture. (2) Clint who do we play in Round 4 on Thursday night? Pre Easter Lions host Pies normally as a stand alone. Are you guessing or fantasising ?
  6. Another inside mid type ??? We have surplus we need skilled runners who finish (Windsor) or a KP forward or back ie Curtin Caddy or O’Connor. Don’t need hard as nails brutes or 6 possession half forwards who lack skills.
  7. We haven’t learnt much IMO from the last 2 years. Hard as nails might sound good to Goody but we have a few ie JV Trac Clarry Sparrow what we need is a skilled outsider runner and finisher mid like Windsor (who kicks goals to) and another key position player like Curtin ( if available ) preferably or if not then Caddy as a forward ahead of O’Sullivan as a back. Alternatively selecting Sanders or Watson is fine as next best but Kolthrup I believe is more of the same hard as nails style. Class and finishing up forward are obvious needs and we should be able to add this in our 6/11 picks of the top dozen in the AFL while the most of the other top 4 and 4 to 8 have to go with their trades for needs already acquired. Swans and Port had gaping gaps in their structure ( key positions) and have addressed that adequately but no real A graders other than Grundy although plenty of handy B’s. I believe we have targeted McAdam ( he really chose us which could be the recruit of the year ( depending on shady he delivers fit our forward mix, Billing’s need is to have his best seasons now the pressure of the Saints is lifted and who knows what limits a climate change May unearth a 24yo ruck/ forward prospect in the mix of our Captain and forwards. Add say a Windsor plus A key position forward or back of quality with our improved Casey backups Howes AMZ Laurie Disco Jefferson and Kynan Brown on the ball potential our dire needs have all been attempted to be added to our existing stars and valuable tile players. Big pre seasons and a couple more Judd McVees types out of our mix will put smiles on our faces plus anguish on our opponents in 2024.
  8. Curtin better if still there and Windsor will be perfect for our forward and outside running skills.
  9. Potential should be listed as experience in Shane and Jack Billing’s case.
  10. I am happy with our 3 trades but Hore does not have their potential nor in Fullarton’s case 24 yo potential as a ruck/ forward option,
  11. I feel there was something not quite right by theFinals starting time and the marriage was over. No real. proof but a hunch of time being up and the final straw breaking the camels back. I don’t disagree with the non selection but can’t understand like a quarter of million other Dees fans why Schache wasn’t released to the game halfway through the third quarter in place of Tommy Mac. We will have to wait for Goody’s book surely for the real reason!
  12. Could have fooled me!! Many D/Lers expect that and have posted that BBB and T Mac would just fade away or the Club would engineer their retirement. Well that is not happening and your question re the four year contract agreed upon 3 years ago is a classic in hindsight comment. Who knows what might happen in 2024 we can always look at our crystal balls and hope for a great outcome.
  13. Really Other than he is our premier inside mid with 4 BandF ‘s and a million other accolades. You can’t be that serious we were really going to clear Clarry unless he Indicated he wanted out and he didn’t. That’s what has happened in reality. Harmsey struggled to play as many games in 2023 as Clarry and was available for most rounds other than his self imposed 2/3 games he missed for personal reasons. Clarry missed 10 due to his injury and rehab misfortunes.
  14. Yes. It the thinking is warped in recruiting Marty as Disco is 5 years younger and we have enough HB flankers already. Disco is an interceptor in the same mould and already has been vastly underplayed by Goody. Tommo is more valuable on the bigger beasts but Disco can handle IMO the evidence of the Swans game mids and perhaps smalls and use his marking and skills to compete on the ground. Marty Hore never displayed that versatility and at 28 won’t gain it now Evidence of form in the VFL at Willie is no proof to me he has improved for the AFL opportunity. A waste of a player on our list as was Kye Turner. Again their list spot is a possible and unnecessary distraction and prevention of Disco’s development, and of the teams depth in defence. Of course Hore could be another Dunstan and not be played in the AFL. Such an irony surely won’t be practiced again?
  15. Where did you hear that? There has not been any news item in the press and our Swans game in Round zero is I believe all but confirmed on Thursday. How any one could believe a D/Ler with a fake looking Demon Hawk motive is beyond me. It was a very emotional time for loyal and passionate Dees fans in 1996 and for this to be thrusted at us on this forum is particularly bad form. Oh and the fact that you say we are still playing the Dogs on Mar 16 has no bearing on the game a week earlier as the bye I believe is factored in for all the “ground zero teams” in early in the season say Round 5 or 7 perhaps. It won’t be our Anzac Eve game vs Tigers though.
  16. It’s part of the season so the usual transport crowds and expenses are not “extra”. Mostly it’s a home game like any other and you get a few months notice of it happening. Sorry that the AFL puts your life out on such a special night of the week. That dastardly Andrew Dillon he is as bad as that Gill bloke.
  17. How much coverage for half back ? and if it doesn’t make your list better and you could choose another more skilful player it’s not improving your chances of winning a flag. Perhaps we should be going after Wingard he knows how to kick a goal or two. Oh and he is available for about 5/6 games this year after recovery from his ACL injury.
  18. Classic example Werridee of Hore keeping out Moniz Wakefield of getting game time and improving his senior chances. Disgraceful negative regressive decision. If he was a forward I could understand but a half back? Really!!!
  19. I repeat how if you were Disco Turner would you feel with another person 5/6 years older and preventing your career from progressing. I would feel rather disheartened and wonder what in the hell the Club is playing at. We need skilful and classy forwards to win games not a 28 yo has been back flanker who was never up yo it 3/4 years ago. Waste of a list spot and regressive move with no real thought of how valuable a player who can win us games is to our chances. Be surprised if he plays more than 3 games and if he does we are in trouble down back. Let’s bring back other failures who never made it like Kent, Peter Johnson and that back pocket No 3 who I can’t even think of his name.
  20. Worst MFC game ( AFL or AFLW ) since a couple of 100pt thrashings in 2013! George got it correctly. Poor selecting and even worse coaching. West out a disgraceful selection. Some didn’t put in and were soft at the ball. Hiw many fumbles Handball ashtrays and missed chest and overhead marks missed. Yes due to pressure but we used to lap that up. Reckon the last time we played well was vs Kangas at Ikon. Pity we couldn’t get a change to Casey on a windy day this week to stuff the Cats skills up. Looking for a big response and return to some form.
  21. We will play in Brisbane in Prelim if we win I think.
  22. Some posters can’t see any thing positive at all. Wait until he sees we play the Swans in Round1 in Sydney as well. As a result we should probably expect Rounds 2 and 3 at the G one at least a blockbuster! Dare the AFL to send us to the Cattery instead to take on the Cats in front of their 40,000 sellout crowds now achievable!! AFL 2024 Fixture out this Thursday 16th. All our fears will be revealed!!
