Mac Andrew
Some of us are very short sighted with recruits. Our best 2 examples of bigger players are Weid and Jacko. One has looked likely from his first few games and developed to changing games in the premiership quarter! Some still say he will be a good/ great player when he matures!! Sorry Jacko is maturing before our eyes and is in the present with a great future ahead. Other end is the frustration with Sam and his potential. Six years on and still got the potential but why not performances to date to really whet the appetite. I have a theory Sam is our third best option ( leaving BBb and T Mac out of the ruck) at the second ruck/ forward role NOT the full forward/CHF role only. He needs to get around the ground and is quite good in general play rucking marking handballing and competing. BUT his best position could also be as Key Position Back ( CHB preferably or even FB). He also needs to solve his mental side of his game which he can't seem to do just on the forward line. Lastly I think Sam is probably too good a footballer to not succeed in our team but it is up to him and the Coaches to be creative in achieving his potential for the team. PS Vossy says Hi We have a forward turned defence star vacancy in our leaking squeaky back half. Bet he would do better in that position than Oscar McDonald.!

The Skip!
One in a million Maxy and deserves any awards and success that come his way, Fantastic to see his new family and little George. He will be a great father as well. Skip until he decides to stand down!

I suspect that many more of our mids and smalls play more outside now than they did. ANB is the best example of growth this season that he starred in the GF and was a revelation on the ball with his outside run ball movement and excellent defensive skills esp. his tackling. Dr D you would ( like us) be very proud of his play and his great leadership as well.

Hugh Greenwood jumps ship to North Melbourne
It's a fine ball with the Pies scenario last season with Adam Treloar being dumped ( for his salary overload of approx $900,000) which bit them on the bum as they paid off $300,000 to the Dogs not for ONE season but 3 it appears. Adding insult was a disgraceful propaganda beat up highlighted by his Coach ( of a combined 28 years playing and coaching without an AFL flag to his name) advising him that he was "disliked " ( or was it hated?) by his teammates. All of this was a mastermind of someone at the Pies who obviously had to dream up the "Great Big Fire Sale Salary Dump of 2020". Is it any wonder the Club finished with a paltry 6 wins and 17th on the AFL ladder with a credibility rating of ZERO in 2021!!! We now move on to the perennially lowly Gold Coast Suns who were just caught napping ( asleep on the job like their players after about Round 7 each year) with there panse down. To be honest this trick is older than Tony Cochrane by taking a player off their list Recruiting another and then reinstating said player on the Rookie list. But good on Kangaroos last on the 2021 ladder for footy but not for brain power as both ex Crows Noble the Coach and Greenwood the player fooled the footy "brains" at Metricon with a pre Draft heist to be savoured. When evaluated I reckon the Suns were just plain DUMB but the PIes to be in their position were just plain DUMBER. Even the AFL rules makers can't protect some Clubs against themselves! But it does justify the average fans reluctance to embrace the series of rules changes for the playing of games that seem to be rushed into every pre season by an AFL administrator desperate to leave a big blob on his CV for his grandchildren to be proud of! The off season ( or Pre season) just gets weirder by the day but the AFL without doubt loves any publicity bad or otherwise! Can't wait for the Draft.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
Clarry shadowed the Bont from third quarter on but no knowledge of the origin of that master stroke. Might have been a comment from Yze or Chico or Goody "to keep in touch with the Bont in this half " perhaps OR Clarry giving a peep into his future coaching skills after he retires. The Gawny "keep Jacko on the ball and I'll continue resting etc. was not a bad move either! Onscreen this is the chat between Burgo and Goody in middle to late Q3 when that message from Gawny was allegedly relayed. That's as much as being more aggressive and all players and notably our on ball champions lifting and taking the ball on the forward side of the pack. Here starteth the lesson and 16 goals later we have a precious unbelievable and thoroughly deserved and unforgettable 13th Premiership.!!

2021 Player Reviews: #13 Clayton Oliver
What a year and he is still vastly underestimated by the media and opposition supporters. But he reached new levels in team play kicking hand balling and fierceness and determination the longer this season went. And whether he was asked to or he used his initiative to ghost the Bont after half time it was a master stroke as Trac took over the game and Clarry wore down the Bont and starred in the 16 goal shellacking that followed. Best quarter and a half of footy from the Dees in my 63 years of watching and how scary is that fir the future! Many of our "role" players played equal to or their best ever game in the GF. Big game nerves not on our watch Most improved and all contributed. When our A graders all get going we are unstoppable as the 1.5 last quarter and a half showed. Clarry and Trac led the way but all the team were in sync and contributed on the biggest stage yet. What more could we ask? To do it at the G in Sept 2022 again in front of our absolute ( great adopted faithful and many true fans who found their way West to WA ) faithful at home!! Thank you Clarry and 43 others who have made our lives just that more brilliant by your exploits and feats during an unforgettable premiership braking drought year of a standard hard to top in excellence and excitement and of course achievement. Long May it continue !! ( no pressure).

Who needs a big preseason at the MFC?
Watching the Dees vs Blues Round9 game which Jacko missed so was surprised about how reasonable Sam was in the 2nd Ruck role. in fact he is far better in the Ruck and round the ground (than a statue ) on the forward line. if Sam is to survive then that is his role or as a defender. He thrives in those situations not on the forward line. If Tmac drops form then Sam Jacko and Gawny can share the merry go round very well in my opinion.

Hiw could any one be critical if a photo like that! It's absolute Demon Red and Blue Royalty!! who knows in 5 years time how many flags are totalled up and how these 3 rank in our very best legends and champions in our 129 years. Suspect a whole new Team of 130 years will bring a new look to the greatest of all Demons from Team of the Century in 5 years. Lets hope so!! A lot to get that result though as 1954-64 was unbelievably good!!- Those who left on bad terms...

Like all things OD it is easy once you know how !! It will be the same for this party function and 2022. Best to get family into gear to get for you if you don't understand technology !!- Those who left on bad terms...
Really who gives a toss what some EX Demons think Most will be glad and many overjoyed and the odd one bearing a grudge may not have those feelings. Largely snd almost universally our Flag triumph has been wonderfully received by the Footy World and neutral fans very congratulatory. I received many good luck messages and also congrats from friends and acquaintances which I replied to and cherished. In Perth for the game the same attitude was both heartening and warm from Freo especially and Eagles fans who embraced the whole game and build up and hold over the City for about a fortnight. I also believe our balanced snd mature celebrations have resulted in a hugely respected response and also an admission given the result and the margin we thoroughly deserved our triumph as the undoubted best team in the AFL in 2021. Its also a very important factor to success and in developing our response for 2022 and beyond.- Merch/Memorabilia
Ring the crowd you placed the order with don't complain to us! We can't help Good luck !- Danners and the Cup
Under the circumstances while RDB or Neal would have been chosen ( I am certain Gary would have agreed with that also ) had we played at the MCG your remarks are not necessarily needed as total success was not the ultimate result of either of Ron's or Neals coaching stints ( despite their undoubted efforts and strengths and Club loyalty ). Garys involvement in Neelds coaching disaster was not great but the Club had plenty of other problems at that time that led to our 2012/13 wreckage. I vividly remember speaking with a rusted on Pies fan of my age ( early sixties) at the time and he endorsed Neeld as the major midfield strategist in their 2009/2012 success and 2010 flag. Neeld could always claim he walked into a train wreck which I think was started when we couldn't persuade or relate to Kevin Sheedy after ND 's departure. That I believe put us back a majority of a decade until Roosy played the saviour we now acknowledge someone with experience was needed.- In Jason Taylor we trust!
Recruiting is a balance of needs and availability. The word " robbed" is not used correctly in this situation as a clear policy of our FD is to look at needs and availability snd utilise both in the development of our Clubs list. Clearly in 2018 our defence while adequate was not our greatest strength. Jake Lever had committed himself to our Club and unfortunately injury delayed his progress in developing into a key member of our defence. Then at the end of 2018 The club decided to part ways with Jesse Hogan and through trade negotiations recruited Steven May. Again form and fitness delayed his elevation to his elite status of 2020 snd 2021. Since the halfway through 2020 we have had the best defence in the AFL on figures and with the additional recruitment of Jayden Hunt in 2015 ( I think) Harry Petty in 2017, Trent Rivers in 2019 Jake Bowey in 2020 plus Joel Smith through the Draft and Michael Hibberd in 2016 from Essendon after their drug sage scandals. Previously Christian Salem in 2013 was a draftee but not played in defence until more recently under Simon Goodwin. So to claim JT was "robbed"about selecting defenders is nonsense as the above indicates a very balanced approach which was totally justified in our recent 2021 premiership triumph. The nature of attracting nearly ready made players or star recruits is that the buyer tends to have to pay "overs" for another Clubs time in developing the skills but you are the recipient of a key element in your team you will build around for quicker success. First Round draft picks have been used by our FD Recruiting Managers in the last 8/10 years both as utensils for star players in trade and also as elite choices to build a very strong balanced list that enabled our team to succeed ultimately justifying this balance beyond doubt as a smart and successful strategy in the second decade of the AFL competition in the 21st century. For as long as we are supporters we will always debate many issues of football and our Club but for any one to be so churlish to criticise after 57 years wait this IMO brilliantly conceived elite list we possess now which has a great chance of sustained success and returning the Dees to a former position of power not experienced for more that half a century. There is no "robbing" of anything in this strategy for success as we have decided to implement it totally ourselves and we excitedly await the spoils of this in the next few years.- The Trade in Draft Picks
Why are they getting the advantage and we are not ? I have forgotten the rationale about the NGA but Dsicos and Darcy are under Father/Son.- Saturday Morning on Demonland (6)
- POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
Amazing that 6 mths previously at Marvel our basically second string on ball brigade and defence looked like statues as the Dogs flicked the ball from one end to another in a dominant display that saw us never repeat that form at all during 2021. Only Bailey Smith and Adam Treloar are quick all the others are good runners but what I would call a bit one paced. Looking at us both Trac and Clarry are elite runners Jack V was so good with his hands Harmesy in bursts plus ANB is so smooth and cut them up on the outside ( HIs best ever game in impact and importance) plus no one minds each other and Sparrow didn't have huge no's but had huge impact (probably as much as Smith did with his greater run and possessions). They also had their fastest defender Johanissen parked up forward taking a specky on Bowsers shoulder contributing a lone goal . Even when we were challenged it was clever ball kicking and slowish ball movement that featured rather than their handball and pace. Once our on ballers and rucks got it all together we looked like a well oiled machine. Langers owned the last quarter on his wing with some of the best handball ( and his running) I thought he was Clarry! So it was a combination of all things pace fitness elite team play tactics and our supreme confidence and ability plus their minds ( and bodies ultimately) and maybe an irresistible force at the top of their game ( Remember our third quarter in the prelim really all day perhaps) and our blitz in the last quarter at the Cattery that ultimately delivered US the greatest advantage in CONFIDENCE and LADDER POSITION we were almost unbeatable from then on, despite one game in 28 days prior to the GF. Thank you Burgo thank you and our team stability of no changes hardly all year due to form and fitness enabled us to not only be Top on the ladder but top in performing best on the biggest stage of all, an AFL Finals series and moreover the last third of the biggest game of All. Our preparation was akin to a Bart Cummings horse on Melbourne Cup Day and we duly saluted by the Length of the Flemington Straight!! Let's Hope our stars align and we can do a Mackybe Diva!!. - Merch/Memorabilia
