Gold Coast is eager to add Petracca to its midfield and forward stocks, while the club is completing its research on Ugle-Hagan and his personal issues. However, the Suns will not part with Bailey Humphrey in any Petracca deal. Petracca is weighing up a fresh start at Adelaide next season in a deal which could involve the Crows’ pick 14 and a future pick from next year. But the Demons are hoping the Suns will surge into the frame over the next few days as Hardwick’s men have a suite of better draft picks including 6, 13 and 16 to help satisfy Melbourne. Petracca’s intentions are expected to become clearer by the end of the week. And if he chooses Adelaide it will set the scene for a fortnight of tense trade talks with Melbourne as the Demons would likely consider pick 14 from the Crows as well as a future pick too little in a return for Petracca. Melbourne will tell the Crows they do not want to trade Petracca unless it receives an offer it cannot refuse for the four-time All-Australian and two-time best-and-fairest winner. But Melbourne will also have to weigh up whether it is simply better to cut the cord on Petracca under new coach Steven King in 2026 after the Demons refused to trade him last season. If Adelaide is not prepared to pay all of his wage - forcing Melbourne to still chip in some of his salary at a new club next season - the Demons would certainly ask for a better return on the picks. It means at least one more club may have to get involved in the Petracca deal if the Demons target a top-10 pick in the trade which Adelaide currently does not have.
