  1. Our second round pick (21 - 25) would go very close to getting it done. He is not worth a pick under 20. Good player but he is not Brad Hill.
  2. Excuse me? In his fourth season (2017) Ben Brown kicked 63 goals 30 behinds. In just his second season he booted 32 goals. Third season - 41.
  3. Is that the royal 'we'? ?
  4. Yeah nah. Roosy's ego is up there with the best of them. Pot a bloke who got drafted and received development under his watch? Fat chance. See his vehement defense of the Tyson/Salem for Pick 2 (Josh Kelly) trade.
  5. Yes. He said that Jesse Hogan's 5 disposal effort for Freo was the best game by an injured player who spent three quarters off the ground he's ever seen.
  6. Thanks both of you for highlighting why I need to post with greater frequency than should be required. A poster made the claim that forwards don’t usually begin to blossom until 23+yo. I refuted that claim by reeling of eight MFC forward line stars of the past 25 years who did exactly that., some even earlier than their fourth season. And that’s just at our club! Dance around it all you like and try to make it all about me. It just makes the silence in which you fail to defend Weideman’s paltry output this season all the more deafening. I’ve one and only one question for you and any other critics of me in this thread - why are you setting the bar so low? I honestly don’t get it.
  7. Ox came third in Bluey in 1992 at 20yo playing as a swingman at both ends. It was only after Neitz hit the scene in 1993/94 that he was moved forward permanently.
  8. Sorry I don’t mean to dig but the more I hear the three words “6 possession game” followed by any kind of passionate defence of it the more I chuckle. It’s pretty funny. That said I do recall Peter Daicos having a pretty good 6 or so touch game way back when. Kicked 6 from six kicks at Vic Park. Or maybe that was just to half time I can’t recall it was that long ago.
  9. Excellent. Now we're getting somewhere MD.
  10. If another poster asks me a question, rebuts something I've said without a solid argument, twists what I've written etc, I will generally reply to that person. I am trying to ignore certain posters who seek to put me down as though it's some kind of sport, otherwise it's fair bump play on as far as I'm concerned. I've got no interest in someone's personal take on my so-called 'cred' or 'impact', or likes and dislikes next to my posts. This means very little to me, although it's nice to see a good share of Demonlanders who don't always follow the herd. You can in turn take that on board or don't, likewise it's entirely up to you. The ignore function is there if it all gets too much for you.
  11. That's true. The different styles of footy is a mitigating factor. But it only mitigates so far. Weid is not even in the top 100 goalkickers in the competition at present. https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_goal_kickers
  12. I re-posted those stats in direct response to ManDee who challenged my argument. I did not re-post my entire comment. I take it from your objection you weren’t happy to read those numbers. Me either.
  13. Liar? Strong word. He plays the game like everyone else in the industry. Incompetent? Don’t know yet. Let’s see his win/loss count at round 13, 2020.
  14. You’re clutching a straws ManDee.
  15. Sorry, but the record books say you're wrong. The Ox - 60 goals in second season. (20yo) Lyon - 41 goals in third season (21yo) Neitz - 56 goals in fourth season (22yo) Jakovich - 71 goals in 1st season (23yo) Robbo - 44 goals in 4th season (22yo) The Wiz - 37 goals in 2nd season (20yo) Jurrah - 40 goals in 3rd season (23yo) Yes I understand the game has changed. But not that much. All of those blokes named above were not only known for their aerial prowess but for their ability to make something out of nothing. Being tall, having a nice leap and good kicking technique are not enough at this level. Unless the reason you are there is to carry out a ruck/forward role you have to be able to convert your share of half chances and keep the scoreboard ticking over. You need to have some ability below your knees and not be voided from contests when the ball hits the deck. Right now I do not see this in the Weid. Not enough tricks and magic in the kitbag. Chasing, pressuring, halving marking situations is not a pass mark going into your fourth season. Those attributes are a given. Until he can light up the forward 50 by making something out of nothing, he will not be the answer down there. Second highest number of inside 50's out of 18 clubs for Melbourne this season. Second highest! The ball has been pinging down there with great regularity. Enough ball for Weid to have had at least double the number of goals he's contributed so far in 2019. The idea that an AFL forward must receive silver service every week for 100 minutes or have an ironclad excuse for poor form is a myth many of you need to let go of. Kick goals or hit the bricks. 'Twas always that way for a forward plying his trade in this great game of ours … and always that it will be.
  16. Guys ... Schwarz, Lyon, Neitz, Jakovich, Robbo, The Wiz, Jurrah! It’s been so long between drinks ya’all have forgotten what it was like to have some truly magical forwards in an MFC 22. We cant be accepting this. “He’s getting to contests”, “Chasing and putting pressure on”, “Showing signs” ... Really? This is how far we have fallen in our expectations of key forward in his fourth season? Rise up ye Demon faithful. We deserve and need better!
  17. Interesting dimmy. Can you link to article or re-post quote and journo who said it? Cheers.
  18. Particularly when it comes to a young man with self-confidence issues at AFL level. I’ve got no truck with a coach defending his charges but c’mon Goody let’s not border on the comical.
  19. I had the best 29 over par round the other day. Shoulda seen me. I was on fire ?
  20. Weideman was tried at times last year alongside Hogan and TMac but could not keep his spot because he did not perform well enough. You make it sound as though he was banging down the door kicking 5 goals at Casey every weekend but just couldn’t get a look in. Not the case at all. And I will compare him to Curnow and others. That’s the way it goes at the elite level of pro sport. This isn’t primary school where everyone gets a fair go and gold star on their locker. Produce to the required level or be critiqued. Do you think they hand out premierships? Best 6 touch game ever. Heaven help us.
  21. “Sam Weideman’s game shouldn’t be underestimated. It’s probably one of the better six possession games I’ve seen from a key forward,” Goodwin said. ??? Lolz. Nice one Goody. Realise you’ve got to go into bat for your boy but that’s pushing the barrow a bit far, innit! Meanwhile over at Les Blues Chucky Curnow is leaping over tall buildings in a single bound, roosting seven and pumping double cobras to the crowd. I hope Weid makes it but let’s keep it real Demonlanders.
  22. Correct. It happens all the time at all levels of footy.
  23. I didn’t refer to Oscar specifically. Just the notion that gifting games is not a thing.
  24. Disbelieving that the sun will rise tomorrow morning won’t alter things no matter how much you dislike the messenger.
  25. Not necessarily. Sometimes guys get pushed ahead of others due to being a particular coach’s favourite, a high draft pick or a ‘project’ the FD thinks they can transform into a certain type of player. They may not necessarily be in the best form or more worthy than another bloke in the twos. This happens frequently. ‘Gifting games’ is a real thing and can be detrimental to both a footballer’s development and overall team morale.
