  1. Finally a journo reporting fact. Not half-baked opinion.
  2. I’m not seeing how that makes a difference B’bub? Whether they called Hogan or us first seems immaterial, at the end of the day they have to deal with us.
  3. Here’s the reason for the hold up. Basically Peter Bell has dug heels in over Lachie Neale. This impasse has the potential to bog every other club down in the mud until the final day of trade week. Mahoney might have to consider issuing Freo a deadline. Monday 5pm or all Hogan talks end and the player remains a Demon. Looking increasingly like Bell needs to have some proper heat placed on him. https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/afl-trade-news-reason-behind-fremantlebrisbane-impasse-over-lachie-neale-revealed/news-story/95b3cc46c67d0b42e33c218d6b56afa4
  4. “Wingard to either Hawks or Bulldogs.” What a genius. This rumour has only been around what, a month? Someone get Tommy Browne a Walkley, stat!
  5. Tom Browne doesn’t strike me as your typical Rhodes Scholar. I could easily see a crafty little bugga like Peter Bell feeding him disinformation. And him swallowing it.
  6. We didn’t shop him around OldDee. But it does take two to tango. Freo clearly came banging on our door hard with promises of gold, silver, frankincense and myrrh this time, so we’ve let them inside the security grille to cast an eye over their wares. I believe that’s all that’s happened here. Two willing traders, yes. But Freo definitely initiated it.
  7. Dees fans want pick 5 & 6. Freo fans only want to give pick 5 & nothing else. What’s the bet it ends up being pick 5 & 13 and everyone ends up feeling like they’re taking their second favourite girl to the prom? That’s usually how life goes isn’t it ...
  8. The Suns will not accept a pick over 10 for May. They have no incentive to. The AFL will ensure they receive Band1 compo for him next season if he goes. That’ll be a pick in the top 5 of next year’s draft. Like it or not pick 5 from Freo will come into play in our acquisition of May should this trade eventuate. He is in the top 5 fullbacks in the AFL. Wouldn’t be a single industry insider who would share your view that he’s not.
  9. Who says they are prioritising Lobb over Hogan? All spin. They are desperate for Hogan but their hands are tied until the Neale impasse is broken.
  10. Oh definitely. As we saw in the WC v Pies Grand Final the margin between loss and victory can be very slender between the top 4 sides. Has your Pies supporting friend heard that Sydney are now trying to poach their gun defender Tom Langdon? Miss out on May AND lose Langdon and suddenly things get difficult for the Pies in 2019!
  11. Hogan will ONLY request a trade once a deal has been agreed between Melbourne and Fremantle. Which may or may not even happen. Melbourne has told him (and Freo) we will be holding him to the final year of his CONTRACT if we are not suitably recompensed in trade. Hogan will say nothing until this happens.
  12. Tucker and Langdon are solid citizens in a 14th ranked team. At a Melbourne that has realistic top 4 claims they are battling it out with the ANBs and Hannans for a spot in the 22. Whether we rank Hogan the 3rd or 6th best current Melbourne player, these sorts of fringe players are steak knives in any mooted trade deal. It’s May and a decent first round pick. Or May and a Freo top 5 player. I wouldn’t entertain anything less than that.
  13. Agree. Hogan is about the sixth most important player at Melbourne. A trade where Freo is trying to pull him off our list while still on contract should net us two players who would be in the best 12 of our 22. Or equivalent value in draft picks. Fringe players won’t cut it.
  14. Where does this assumption from many posters come from that a player is not ‘invested’ in performing to the best of his ability purely because they haven’t signed a long term deal? Hogan is a professional footballer. If anything he may come out and kick 75 goals next season as he tries to impress suitors and stick it right up everyone!
  15. No. Thats the equivalent of pick 5, 25 and 35 for Hogan. Tucker and Langdon would be fringe 22 players at Melbourne. At best. Not good enough for this deal.
  16. FFS why do people assume that Nev, a lovely calm bloke whose life is on track and who is enjoying a wonderful stable footy career, would have ANY interest in taking on the burden of child minding a head case with known drug, alcohol and violence issues? Because he’s indigenous and it’s his duty to get involved? How ridiculous. Nev’s probably reading this thread thinking “leave me the frig out out of it!”
  17. I like your attitude WYL and partially agree with you. I’ve got no problem with Hogan fulfilling the final year of his contract, playing for Melbourne in 2019 and helping us win a premiership. Could not give a stuff about media circuses or whiny worry warts pining that “this will all happen again next year.” So what! He’s a professional footballer who will knuckle down and provide the best service he can. Just like Bryce Gibbs did when he had to stay at Carlton an extra year before heading to Adelaide. Fronted up again and won their B&F! However, you’ve always got to be prepared to negotiate. Cards close to your chest, talk tough sure. But there’s always a bit of unspoken wriggle room to grease the wheels of a deal. That’s business.
  18. Chill out people. Forget the noise. This is a business negotiation.
  19. https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/afl-trades/afl-trades-2018-melbourne-want-historically-good-trade-return-for-jesse-hogan-ng-b88979227z.amp
  20. No, we don’t have to “take what we can get at” at all. Jeepers, talk about going all jelly-kneed just as negotiations are hotting up. Patience grasshopper. A similar scenario played out with Bryce Gibbs at Carlton two years ago. They could not agree on trade terms with Adelaide so the player stayed another season. And guess what? He came out and won the Blues best and fairest! Following year Carlton extracted their two first round picks off Adelaide for him. These are professional footballers and there’s always going to be a media circus surrounding a number of players every year. If Hogan goes it’ll be someone else they focus on. Nature of the beast. If Hogan stays another year and helps us win a premiership I couldn’t give a stuff what dolts like Sam McClure want to say and write. Who cares! That said I still think we will reach an agreement with Freo on Hogan. 95% of these deals go through. However if it doesn’t, so be it.
  21. For them - absolutely!
  22. I’m with you there B’bub. My guess is also pick 5 & 2019 first rounder. They should back themselves to rise up the ladder with Hogan just like Adelaide put the onus on us doing with Lever. Happy to then throw in some steak knives swapping later picks if it helps them save a bit of face and sell the deal to their fans. Just quietly I also still think they’ll be rat droppings in 2019 even with Hogan and we’ll make out with a pick at least in the top 7. This is the deal I expect Mahoney and Co will be pressing home to Peter Bell. Might take a while though. He (Bell) seems like a recalcitrant little focker.
  23. No we can’t think like that. You have to be prepared to walk away from the table and say “no problem Jesse plays FF for us next year” ... “we think we can win the flag with him.” “Pay the price or miss out. The Eagles have already made enquiries for next year.” ”May yeah we’re keen on him but not the end of the world if we miss there.” No limit on us. But the clock is definitely on them. Tick, tock, tick, tock.
  24. Correct OldDee. Anyone fretting over Hogan not yet nominating Freo or “making a decision” need to understand that no such announcement will be made until the two clubs agree on a deal. There is still a small outside chance he stays in red and blue. He’s contracted. It’s really out of his hands at this point. I reckon we’re going to push for Freo’s pick 5 and 2019 first rounder while they will be pushing pick 5 & 14 this year. Let’s see who blinks first. There is a heap of pressure on them now to get this deal over the line. Missing out on Jesse would be calamitous for them. Just wait it out Dees.
  25. I sincerely hope we reject 6 & 14 and demand 6 & Freo’s 2019 first rounder. Put the onus on Freo to rise up the ladder with Hogan. I highly doubt the Suns would accept 14 for May as many on here hope.
