Farewell Jesse Hogan
Nope. Mahoney has said nothing about two first round picks. You’re taking something a journo said and putting words in his mouth. Mahoney has effectively said two things. 1. “Jesse could still be playing for Melbourne next year.” 2. “If he does get traded we think he’s going to be right up at the highest that anyone has been traded for”. Seems fine to me. Hardly the sort of rhetoric to be “extremely disappointed” about. But each to their own.

You’re “extremely disappointed” with the way the club is addressing the Hogan trade then describe exactly (in bold) the way Mahoney has handled things so far! Mmkay.

(from today’s Trade Wrap on AFL.com.au): There’s a possibility (of us trying to trade up for the two SA boys Lukosius and Rankine) we're not ruling anything out, we're certainly open minded. But at the same time, it's very rare that high-end picks move – top three, top five or even top eight," Crows list boss Justin Reid said. "You can always ask the question, it doesn't mean it's going to facilitate the end result. "We rate that South Australian talent highly, but at the same time we're not going to sell the farm to get to that position."

I understand you can still pick up very good players in the 8 - 15 range, however the odds are much higher you’re going to pick up a future star of the competition in the top 5 picks. That’s why they are valued so highly. The ratio of hits to misses increases the lower down the draft order you go. Freo’s 5 & 6 might get the Suns interested in a conversation about say pick 2 ... but picks 8&13 or 10&11? Highly unlikely.

Nup that’s not how it works. Go back through the past 12 drafts. You will see how heavily weighted the stars are in the top 5 picks.

Why would the Suns care that Crows or Port are desperate for local talent? If either of those clubs want access to two of the best three players in a superdraft they are going to literally have to move mountains to do so. Picks 10&11 or picks 8&13 are not getting you access to Lukosius or a Rankine. Not even close. Several draft commentators have also stated that although there is some amazing talent in this batch, it fallls away a bit after the first 7 picks.

Why would they do that? You’d draft two stars over one star and two good players every day of the week. Makes no sense what you’re saying.

Farewell Dom Tyson
I’ve heard $300k but the enticer was the job security of a 4 year deal. Tyson for Preuss seems a fair trade.

The Suns aren’t giving up an opportunity to draft Lukosius or Rankine for picks 10 & 11. Not in a million years.

Oh FFS. You think we’d be the only club after May next year? Try getting in line with about 10 others. We have a chance to get him now and he sounds keen to come to the Dees. You don’t baulk at that or try to get cute by naively thinking “we’ll just wait 12 months and get him for nothing.” Silly thinking.

Or Freo could finish last and Hogan’s foot could collapse again. We might get pick 1. Who knows.

*double facepalm* Not even going to bother correcting you.

SA boys Lukosius and Rankine set to go top 3. Pick 5 won’t get them to the Adelaide clubs.

Pick 5 will go out immediately for May.

I advocated this same deal a few days ago and reckon it sits about right. We get pick 5 and an upgraded first rounder (likely To be a pick between 5 - 10) in 2019. Freo get Hogan and stay in the first round of 2019, albeit at a later pick (14+). It’s a deal which puts the onus on Freo to back themselves to rise up the ladder with Hogan. I’d be happy with this trade.

Peter Bell is trolling media dupes harder than Sacha Baron Cohen at the moment. Pretty pointless though. Hasn’t fazed the MFC none.

I’m not seeing how that makes a difference B’bub? Whether they called Hogan or us first seems immaterial, at the end of the day they have to deal with us.

Here’s the reason for the hold up. Basically Peter Bell has dug heels in over Lachie Neale. This impasse has the potential to bog every other club down in the mud until the final day of trade week. Mahoney might have to consider issuing Freo a deadline. Monday 5pm or all Hogan talks end and the player remains a Demon. Looking increasingly like Bell needs to have some proper heat placed on him. https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/afl-trade-news-reason-behind-fremantlebrisbane-impasse-over-lachie-neale-revealed/news-story/95b3cc46c67d0b42e33c218d6b56afa4

“Wingard to either Hawks or Bulldogs.” What a genius. This rumour has only been around what, a month? Someone get Tommy Browne a Walkley, stat!

Tom Browne doesn’t strike me as your typical Rhodes Scholar. I could easily see a crafty little bugga like Peter Bell feeding him disinformation. And him swallowing it.

We didn’t shop him around OldDee. But it does take two to tango. Freo clearly came banging on our door hard with promises of gold, silver, frankincense and myrrh this time, so we’ve let them inside the security grille to cast an eye over their wares. I believe that’s all that’s happened here. Two willing traders, yes. But Freo definitely initiated it.
