Farewell Jesse Hogan
Where does this assumption from many posters come from that a player is not âinvestedâ in performing to the best of his ability purely because they havenât signed a long term deal? Hogan is a professional footballer. If anything he may come out and kick 75 goals next season as he tries to impress suitors and stick it right up everyone!

Farewell Jesse Hogan
No. Thats the equivalent of pick 5, 25 and 35 for Hogan. Tucker and Langdon would be fringe 22 players at Melbourne. At best. Not good enough for this deal.

FFS why do people assume that Nev, a lovely calm bloke whose life is on track and who is enjoying a wonderful stable footy career, would have ANY interest in taking on the burden of child minding a head case with known drug, alcohol and violence issues? Because heâs indigenous and itâs his duty to get involved? How ridiculous. Nevâs probably reading this thread thinking âleave me the frig out out of it!â

I like your attitude WYL and partially agree with you. Iâve got no problem with Hogan fulfilling the final year of his contract, playing for Melbourne in 2019 and helping us win a premiership. Could not give a stuff about media circuses or whiny worry warts pining that âthis will all happen again next year.â So what! Heâs a professional footballer who will knuckle down and provide the best service he can. Just like Bryce Gibbs did when he had to stay at Carlton an extra year before heading to Adelaide. Fronted up again and won their B&F! However, youâve always got to be prepared to negotiate. Cards close to your chest, talk tough sure. But thereâs always a bit of unspoken wriggle room to grease the wheels of a deal. Thatâs business.

Shiel is a jet you guys are kidding yourselves.Very good get by the Bombers. They will give the eight a shake next season. So good that the Hawks missed on him. Sucked in poos and wees youâre on the steady decline.

No, we donât have to âtake what we can get atâ at all. Jeepers, talk about going all jelly-kneed just as negotiations are hotting up. Patience grasshopper. A similar scenario played out with Bryce Gibbs at Carlton two years ago. They could not agree on trade terms with Adelaide so the player stayed another season. And guess what? He came out and won the Blues best and fairest! Following year Carlton extracted their two first round picks off Adelaide for him. These are professional footballers and thereâs always going to be a media circus surrounding a number of players every year. If Hogan goes itâll be someone else they focus on. Nature of the beast. If Hogan stays another year and helps us win a premiership I couldnât give a stuff what dolts like Sam McClure want to say and write. Who cares! That said I still think we will reach an agreement with Freo on Hogan. 95% of these deals go through. However if it doesnât, so be it.

Iâm with you there Bâbub. My guess is also pick 5 & 2019 first rounder. They should back themselves to rise up the ladder with Hogan just like Adelaide put the onus on us doing with Lever. Happy to then throw in some steak knives swapping later picks if it helps them save a bit of face and sell the deal to their fans. Just quietly I also still think theyâll be rat droppings in 2019 even with Hogan and weâll make out with a pick at least in the top 7. This is the deal I expect Mahoney and Co will be pressing home to Peter Bell. Might take a while though. He (Bell) seems like a recalcitrant little focker.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
No we canât think like that. You have to be prepared to walk away from the table and say âno problem Jesse plays FF for us next yearâ ... âwe think we can win the flag with him.â âPay the price or miss out. The Eagles have already made enquiries for next year.â âMay yeah weâre keen on him but not the end of the world if we miss there.â No limit on us. But the clock is definitely on them. Tick, tock, tick, tock.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Correct OldDee. Anyone fretting over Hogan not yet nominating Freo or âmaking a decisionâ need to understand that no such announcement will be made until the two clubs agree on a deal. There is still a small outside chance he stays in red and blue. Heâs contracted. Itâs really out of his hands at this point. I reckon weâre going to push for Freoâs pick 5 and 2019 first rounder while they will be pushing pick 5 & 14 this year. Letâs see who blinks first. There is a heap of pressure on them now to get this deal over the line. Missing out on Jesse would be calamitous for them. Just wait it out Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I sincerely hope we reject 6 & 14 and demand 6 & Freoâs 2019 first rounder. Put the onus on Freo to rise up the ladder with Hogan. I highly doubt the Suns would accept 14 for May as many on here hope.

You need to sit down with Ross and Rocket and hash out your differences of opinion with them over this one. But only after youâve spoken with the footy depts at Melbourne, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Essendon and explained to them why you think theyâve got their assessments of Steven May all wrong. Let me know how you get along.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
I remember Rodney Eade saying in an interview about his time at the Suns that there were a number of off field incidences that the media did not get wind of regarding Bennell. The look of disappointment/disdain/pity on Rocketâs face said it all. You are barking up the wrong tree on this one LordNevX. Youâre consistent bro Iâll give you that!- Farewell Jesse Hogan
I just canât see them releasing Brayshaw or Cerra in a deal unless theyâve suddenly devalued one of them after seeing them perform at AFL level for one season. Both looked to be tracking pretty well to me for top five picks. But you never know I guess. Of the two Cerra looks the pick. Almost no chance theyâll let him go.- Farewell Jesse Hogan
Iâm interested to know why some posters think Pick 5 & Brayshaw would be a compromise option that would have appeal to Fremantle. Brayshaw was pick 2 for them, so in real terms youâre asking for picks 5 & 2 for Hogan (not to mention that the kid has already had a year in the system as you say). Where is the value there for Freo over picks 5 & 6?- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
I bet you Clarkson is considering taking him on. Desperate to hang on to any chance the Hawks can resist an inevitable slide down the ladder. Bennell hasnât just got a drug problem, heâs got a head problem. Worst combination possible. Avoid like the plague.- Farewell Jesse Hogan
Itâs just been a very interesting feature of 90% of news articles on the Hogan trade story that the journos do not want Melbourne to receive decent compensation for the player. Here again a snide little backhander mentioning the irrelevant, unconnected detail of the four year offer to Preuss. I very much doubt clubs like Hawthorn, Essendon or Collingwood would be written about this way, with the none too subtle put downs and âthe poor child is getting a bit ahead of his stationâ mindset. Itâs good to see. Shows that the Demons are finally starting to rattle a few cages and put a few noses out of joint. Ie. We are at long last relevant again and itâs got the Establishment a bit worried! Great to hear we demanded picks 5 & 6, too. It wonât be that in the end of course but youâve got to set your markers high and talk tough in a trade of this nature. Freo are the ones who will end up looking right gooses if they canât come up with a satisfactory price for the player. Tapped up the under contract key forward theyâve been chasing for five years, got their supporters hopes up by bring Hogan over to see their weights room, but then wouldnât value him high enough to compensate his current club and it all fell through? Would be highly, highly embarrassing for them. Weâre talking about a Freo that finished a very disappointing 14th in 2018 and looks set to slide further into the bottom four while their cross town rivals sit high on the hog and dominate the competition. Make no mistake, Ross and a few others will come under some serious heat over there if the fortunes of the Purple Haze arenât rapidly reversed. They will pay up for Hogan. We just need to sit tight and occasionally talk tough. Might not exactly be 4 & 5 we end up getting, but they will pay up.- Farewell Jesse Hogan

See DrDâs post above. He nails it. Frost/OMac v Lynch/Riewoldt? v Kennedy/Darling? v Patton/Cameron? Please. Who are you trying to kid LordNev. And who cares if itâs slightly overs for May? Freo are likely to pay us slightly overs for Hogan. Swings and roundabouts. Itâs all about winning a premiership now for the Melbourne Football Club. Not forever mining for draft gold that may or may not materialise. May is a gun. And an absolute brute to boot. Or do you have better judgment than the MFC, Hawks, Bombers and Pies football departments? Coz it really seems like you think you do.- Farewell Jesse Hogan
1 year extension ?? If Hogan stays put the only way this circus sideshow doesnât reoccur next year is if he signs on for minimum 3 additional years until 2022. - Farewell Jesse Hogan
