  1. Prefer your sources were right. Since Nth AFL play Saturday, the North VFL will have all AFL emergencies available, and their supporter base. I would have thought, that the team above all the teams playing in VFL wildcard games, would gets the advantages.
  2. After the heartbreaking two point loss to the Brisbane Lions yesterday, the Casey Demons now find themselves in a do or die Wildcard Round clash. Finishing in seventh place, the Demons enter the new format alongside Collingwood, Richmond and North Melbourne. Casey will play North Melbourne on Sunday 27 August at 2:45pm at Casey Fields. It is a win at all costs fixture with the losing team having their season end. The winning side will continue into the traditional finals bracket where sixth place Footscray are waiting. Pasted from https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1412341/vfl-finals-week-one-fixture-confirmed Another clash game with our AFL game Sydney Swans v Melbourne Sunday 27 August 2023 • 3:20 PM
  3. Thought Laurie offered a bit. Though, too late in the season to get more time in AFL, so as to continue his needed development. Cannot imagine him being delisted, there are other fringe players who would go before him. Is his contract up for negotiation?
  4. We will probably know what is required by the time we start our game, or at least soon after. Brisbane Saturday game, Port a 12.30 start on Sunday, us, a 3.20 start on Sunday.
  5. McVee closed Breust down after his 1st quarter dominance. We played through their pressure. Love our backs (zoning and communication), if not May, then Lever in the air, the smalls try harder (especially if an error) and run straight at ground balls. Rivers is so important to breaking the lines. Melksham wants a shot at a premiership. Viney has been having a great year. We are playing the "G" well, and are ready for spring footy. Ran them off their legs, and forced turnovers. We get to walk into the finals in good shape, and with minimal have to win pressure (can afford to bring in an underdone Fritta). Sydney could be best preparation for us, offering a challenge, before we go into the bye.
  6. I think he was as well. Looked to be staggering as he got up.
  7. Of course, I didn't think it out well. So we need about a 20 point win. Thanks for that Rpfc. Hoping for a big last quarter, though won't be able to watch (the "G" is calling)
  8. They could tank, to get the continuity into themselves. (The wild card entry into VFL season final fixture)
  9. Edited, as I was wrong. 6th guarantees a week off, as 7 to 10 play for wild card entry into finals.
  10. Agree, I thought Jefferson was starting to look bigger, especially in the hip area. Muscle is building well, which I thought wouldn't happen.
  11. Another game where I only see up to 3/4 time, as I have to head to the "G". Not very good scheduling. Great that D.Turner is back, with Jed developing and Kye getting some match fitness, the youngsters to show us that they know their roles and can work together well. Lead them on Hibbo.
  12. Playing the old enemy again. Don't even like calling their name, use the Potter, "they, that should not be named" Get it done Dees.
  13. I'm so traumatised by the their last goal, I cannot remember Simons shot on goal. Did it go through and not given?
  14. Need to move on. Though, given what happened to Adelaide yesterday and us, they need much better Tech, that can overrule umps.
  15. Memories of our start against North Melbourne, gets me worried. They want to be up for some contest and tackles. Good chance of a finals like start, with some applied pressure, I reckon. Cmon Dees, give us commitment and wanting it for 4 quarters, I would hate us to be choosing when to go. I want to see Tommo cement a spot. Clarry to boom. Small forwards to have a day out. Marks and clean footy, to win it for us, together with forcing turnovers. Go Dees
  16. They were all over the place, Xavier, Junction and Casey. FIFA games are no longer played at AAMI. Last one was on the 8th, I think. I expect/assume that their facilities at AAMI are now available to use.
  17. You're welcome. Helps me get out for those morning walks, via the Yarra and the Botanical. I enjoy that, and the storms young players were having some fullish sims. Beautiful day down here in Melbourne. I thought, maybe the club has changed up its training routine, as it prepares for a finals assault. I will have a sqizz at Gosch's again, Thursday morning.
  18. Just realised that they play, Sunday. Good chance they will out on Gosch's tomorrow (Tuesday) at around 11.30 am, for a recovery and review session. Then Thursday 9.30 am at Casey, for the main training. Maybe a Captain's run, on Saturday morning at Gosch's, 9.30 am.
  19. Do you have the same run down for a ruck contest? There is a lot of body work on each other, prior to the ball being put into play. "18.3.3 Permitted Contact A Player may use their hip, shoulder, chest, arms or open hands provided that the football is no more than five metres away" https://www.afl.com.au/about-afl/laws-of-the-game So my interpretation, you cannot instigate any contact unless within 5 meters of the ball. Clarry should ask the umps, why do they block me though the ball hasn't been brought into play. Tomlinson got freed against, in a shocker when playing for Casey. He tracked the ball back and spoilt, but got a feather on the hand of an opponent who had a good position on the ball to be marked. His sole intention was to spoil.
  20. I don't know the rules well. It seems a really arbitrary rule. It is incongruent to the sheparding rule of being able to effect the player within 5 meters of the ball. Although players are constantly "picked", away from the ball and before the ball is in play. "Under the Laws of Australian Football, a player can shepherd an opposition player when the ball is within five metres, with the exception of contests where players contest the ball in the air, i.e. marking contests and ruck contests, or when the ball is not in play. Players cannot shepherd in marking and ruck contests." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepherding_(Australian_rules_football) "inconsistently applied, and free kicks are paid only against blatant shepherds by a player whose eyes are not on the ball." https://en-academic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/7152925#google_vignette I've seen them train to get between their own player and opponent, in order to give protection. There seems a fine line of holding your space and taking the others space.
  21. The team is not at Gosch's. I wonder where they are.
  22. I'll wonder down to Gosch's tomorrow morning.
  23. Been thinking about our game. I reckon the most damaging problem we have, is that our disposals often put the intended player under pressure, or the ball not to their advantage. Love the way they all want the ball, but sometimes, they shouldn't call for it or give it. We need more angle in our runs, a bit more shimmy and step when we get it, more precision in the delivery. If we get better at breaking lines and finding a variety of corridors to go through (a bomb doesn't always have to be down the line), we would be a much better attacking side. When the pressure is applied we hack it up. Our capacity to create stoppages is great, but we need more flair, and to make better use of the spaces and freedom, which helps in more precise execution.
  24. Could be, but it didn't escalate to any kind of aggression. I took it in reasonable way, and tried to retort with some wit. I just don't understand why winning isn't enough, and the division needs to be even more highlighted. Aren't they happy enough with a win? A derogatory comment was also made by a 9yr boy, out of the blue. Learning well from the grown ups, and no instruction as to how to be a "good winner". Only felt unedged as I made my way into the dark areas of the night.
