What does Jones add to Viney that Viney doesn't have? My answer is nothing. From the grandstand, Jones adds nothing on-field and Viney has already shown what and when to stand up and inspire. Personally I'd let Viney take the reigns now, he's a rare breed who has no problems shouldering the load IMO. I'm far from impressed with Jones' leadership.
I haven't read thru this whole thread, so this may have been said, but I would add the following.... jones does a pretty good job of public speaking, no frills, but honest and articulate, not sure that Viney has those skills or the potential to acquire them.
I love both players, jones for what he's been thru and staying loyal and jack for his love for the club and tenacity. Please remind me when Viney has sufficiently inspired the team to make the difference between winning and losing- port Adelaide game excepted.

Wow, great article. I would have thought PJ was the leader, but you're right we don't hear much from the him, now we are past crisis mode.
Send your post to the club please

Depending on who you believe Salem is also not on the table.

I just received an email to say there is an interview with Goodwin on the club website.
Not sure I've ever seen an email form the club to tell me there is an article on the website. Usually club emails are about promotions. The club must read Demonland!
Makes up for the club not letting members know that Jones had a press conf.
Better late than never.
And all the emails to the club- my mother did so yesterday expressing the supporters need to hear from coach/ceo/president, in order for hurting supporters to move on from 2017. Closure I think it is called

There's smoke here from my cheroot but no fire left in the belly....pick 10 and Watts to Brisbane for pick 1 and we get that gun ... Rayner.
Frost and Stretch to Adelaide for Lever
Next years first rounder and Spencer to Giants for Kelly
That'll do

I just watched the press conference. My angst is alleviated somewhat, jones is a class act, there is no doubting his sincerity and investment.
The email from the club is good in its honesty re saturday's effort, but begs the question, WHY were the intensity and effort not there?
Jones also admitted the criticism of their first quarter effort was 100% warranted, and here I believe he wants to separate the players from the playing group, and for the players to take the blame alone.
The coaches did not encourage the poor effort at the start, it was the playing group that did not execute the coaches message.
my question is what to do? Is it the coaches failing for not having the playing group in the correct mindset? Or are the on field leaders to blame?
ive gone from despising wce overnight, to admiring them. Once we lost they had an opportunity and they took it with determination and guts. Well done!
we seem to be the only club that can't find motivation when we need it. It should be instinctive at this level. I don't get it.

We all hope it would put fire in their belly but does anyone believe it actually will? They will still get paid this week. They don't care.
WCE players still get paid this week too, other teams find motivation. Our teams lack of it is a cruel mystery

I'm also still pretty angry. I even dreamt last night about the Adelaide wce game today. How sad is that?
meanwhile the flag out the front is at half mast, my husband lowered it in anticipation of my mood upon returning from the game!

If we only lay 9 tackles in the first Q, none in the first 11 mins of the game, then I know who I will be blaming for todays loss.
...and it aint the umpires.
I agree with this 100%, Rjay, but also the umpiring inconsistency is infuriating. On the Monday they come out and can justify every free kick awarded, but it is the free kicks that are missed that are the problem. Oscar's 60 cm 'throw' in the 3rd quarter I think, was pinged, but the other 30 odd throws yesterday were not picked up. Etc etc, holding the ball decisions , once they set the tone by paying a holding the ball, they need to then apply the same standard throughout the game to both sides. This rarely happens, and is exemplified by that ridiculous free from 100 metres off the ball awarded to Brisbane by that idiot Razor Ray.

Just go home, after a drink or two for solace. I vowed not to come near here, but like a moth to a flame, I'm drawn to the suffering of my type.
how frustrating was that?
If you had to write a template for a typical effort surely that would be it... a let a 5 goal lead happen in quarter 1, don't bother too much tackling, and make sure we handball and kick straight to the opposition at least 10 times a quarter. Yep that should get the job done.
[censored] off.

Have you taken a look at North they are a disgrace play like busted a holes for the last 3 months and suddenly play like there lives depended on it against us, you can put house on it they will tank the house down next week against the Lions and gain the 1st draft pick.
Brisbane had nothing to play for today no expectation but they rise coz were a young talented team they rested players like Hipwood and 2-3 others primed for this game been a common theme this year.
100% north are tanking. After it became a topic in the media a few weeks ago, they thought they better put in a mammoth effort for their next game, beating us.
since then just back to losing, they are much better than 18th
tanking is a little more nuanced these days.

Well on the bright side, if we were winning easily every week, playing finals and winning flags, all you'd have to look forward to would be our inevitable fall from grace.

Where's the justice? The mercenary has another very good game, 3 votes from Mick Malthouse, and will win a flag, if not this year, then the next. The loyal player, equally talented, is ruinined by injury never to play another senior afl game.
Makes me ill.
