  1. My god, a balanced article. I liked David S's comments, particulary:

"This is such a hard decision for the AFL. This would have gone to court. Melbourne doesn't have to pay for legal representatives, because it has more lawyers than supporters."

Former Melbourne star David Schwarz yesterday told the Herald Sun a negotiated settlement would save the league from significant fallout.

"This is such a hard decision for the AFL. This would have gone to court. Melbourne doesn't have to pay for legal representatives, because it has more lawyers than supporters.

"This looks like the sensible thing. They are acknowledging there is probably smoke, but not enough proof there was fire. Let it be a lesson to all of us that the rules put in place weren't conducive to sides finishing as high as high as they could. The AFL incentivised mediocrity, and history says we can't go back there.

"Deep down we all felt there were several clubs over eight years that didn't try 100 per cent 100 per cent of the time. The players tried, but I am glad this has come out, so it's not just an untold story hidden under the carpet.

"The AFL would realise if they penalised Melbourne hard they would have to go after other sides, and they don't have the resources or energy to do that."

    My sentiments exactly.

  2. Gillon Mclachlan was supposed to be making a big announcement today on SEN. Anyone hear what it was????

Saw the last half of footy classified. Charges against Bailey the MFC Connolly but not sure about Schwab according to kero.

Its gonna be a long year....

It was nothing new, and caro said same regarding our charges on aw tues night. Authoritative and arrogant. If she's right there must have been leaks from afl, not happy...

  3. I heard the same thing and she was speculating.

under no circumstance did she saw this was fact.

Just they way she thought it would go.

She said: "Dean Bailey WILL be charged. CC WILL be charged, CS will probably be charged, The club WILL be charged..."

Hopefully this is just her arrogant manner, and not a leak from HQ ( absolute disgrace if this is the case)

  4. That is not the point

If you commit a crime it is not a defence to say that 50 people committed the same crime that week.

I just get a little fed up with all the self righteous stuff some Dees supporters keep pedaling.

Please are you suggesting that the AFL will change their opinion based on what I say on Demonland.

They do not know or care that I exist.

We do not deserve the current investigation as the AFL set up the position that we and a number of teams tried to exploit.

But lets not get too outraged

True, but over those years when other teams were tanking, Andrew continually stated that "tanking does not exist". It can be only concluded that the list manipulation and questionable tactics during those games were acceptable...

  5. You heard what you wanted to hear, Anderson did not commit either way and it was more a point of saying we will not be rushed in any way and basically media can bleat all they like it wont fast track the investigation

No, I didn't want to hear this, but am concerned that, that was the message. I hope YOU are right!

  6. Everything I heard Angry say, in some of his interviews today, referred to the importance of "maintaining the integrity" of the game, and how the Melbourne tanking investigation was incomplete and needed time to reach its conclusion unimpeded.

It sounds highly unlikely we will get off with "no charges to answer". (afl know they need to act in response to the huge attention on this issue, and there will be destructive attacks on the AFL and their governance primarily by media and therefore the afl followers, if there is not what is deemed adequate penalties.

  7. Have I missed something.... other that CW being quiet for a couple of days and Bailey coming out saying he didn't tell players to tank. Is that it? Is this why people are getting a little cocky about the tanking outcome?

Not wanting to be a wet blanket but no one really know what Anderson and his cronies have actually discovered. It could very likely be nothing, and could be inclusive,.. but we don't know. It isn't over yet though.

... wish it was though :(

CW is on holidays in Noosa, and unsurprisingly there has been no "breaking news" on the subject, worthy of a front page in The Age, or for that matter even a short paragraph after the district cricket scores at the end of the sports section.

  8. Sounds like Matthew Lloyd, D-wayne et al on 3AW yesterday, got their material from the Denham remarks. Repeated the same sentiments, suggesting desperate measures by Neeld, trying a Michael Voss stunt of a couple of years ago, but without the "favourite son" security, Voss had at Brisbane.

Sounded like trying to work up a story, when there is nothing to actually talk about...
