  1. Hey guys, thanks for the pod, listen every week, maybe not quite to the end every time 😉

just read that Brisbane had a specific plan to pierce through our defence, by forcing us to defend the short lead-ups, and therefore opening up their forward 50.

this sounds too simplistic to explain our woeful performance. What do you think, should we be worried?

    1. Essendon. The Sheedy era, the 2000 GF, the drugs scandal and Hird's unapologetic hubris. I hope that their streak of not winning a final continues infinitum. I was there the day Whelan ironed out Hird and it is the only time in my life I have applauded a player's suffering.

    2. Carlton. I grew up in the Carlton zone where they won multiple flags and we were perennial bottom 4. Their supporters are by far the most insufferable.

    3. Collingwood. This is deep grained and genetic (I am 4th generation Dees) The Eddie Maguire era solidified it and it moved from legislation to constitution. Irrevocable.

    Sums it up perfectly

only thing I’ll add, the Maynard incident last year and what followed will never be forgotten wrt Collingwood

Naming Petty says a lot about the state of BB and his knees. If BB always needs backup, I’d rather an underdone Petty than a fully fit Schache any day.

Always weird that we question selections, inferring that we know more than the coaches and selectors.

I wasn't referring to him (I have never forgiven his pro-Essendon position in the 'enhancement' program). But his co-presenter said it 3 times, so I guess she got it from him.

I agree re the Essendon thing, he still throws it into his segment, given half the chance

jon ralph, who tends to just re-write media releases, says that the afl - unsurprisingly - doesn't have a protocol to deal with a player medically retired with a significant amount of time left upon their deal

    BRAYSHAW UNCERTAINTY

The AFL is expected to have discussions with Melbourne about the salary cap implications of Angus Brayshaw’s retirement given he has five more seasons left on his contract.

The league medically retired Brayshaw and while the Demons spent Thursday farewelling their premiership star, his position will clearly set a precedent for all clubs.

Brayshaw could agree to accept a smaller figure on a contract of between $700,000-$800,000 as part of an agreement with the club or the AFL could grant the Demons some cap relief.

Rival list bosses agreed there was no set protocol for medical retirements given most players to retire recently including Marcus Adams, Paul Seedsman and Paddy McCartin did not have long-term deals.

The AFL’s intervention into Brayshaw’s career will give the Demons the best chance of reducing the cap implications of his deal until 2028.

reads to me like we're going to be carrying the hefty salary in our cap for the extent of the remainder of the deal - that would be very, very annoying indeed

That’s just ridiculous, if that’s the case

But that's all, as you say, your 'guess'.   i have heard in ABC radio them say he has been forced to retire by the AFL.  And a couple of posters here have said that too, but I cannot find any statement from the AFL saying that and Gus said it was his decision. Anyone....?

Are you referring to Warwick Hadfield on RN? I heard it and thought he was incorrect. Wouldn’t be the first time. Anyone hear him yesterday on our’drug culture’? Basically aired a rumour

The ‘big questions’ Matthew Lloyd has about one club ahead of 2024 season

Matthew Lloyd says he’s unsure where Melbourne is at heading into the new season.

The Demons are coming off a second straight sets exit from the finals, having now lost four consecutive matches in September.

With the new campaign less than three weeks away, Lloyd says there’s “big questions” about the club’s recent game style.

“I’m not sure about Melbourne,” he told 3AW Football’s pre-season preview podcast.

“(There’s) big questions about Simon Goodwin, I think he’s played too safe.”

Thanks for your concern Matthew, but [censored] off

No doubt The Filth took out Angus in that game

    Premeditated plan executed

    They all loved it

    Eddie shouted “Justice”

These are the [censored] called Collingwood

Young Demons may now understand how much they must be despised and Hated for eternity

Don’t get me started on The AFL

Agree 100% and this is why I’m imposing a media ban on myself for season 24. I will come here and listen to the DL pod and that’s it.

The profound lack of courage by the tribunal to suspend Maynard and the subsequent hypocrisy of the afl to outlaw the act were the final straw. And now the salivating of the populist media over the Joel smith debacle… I can do without the angst.

I actually did tell him exactly that! He appeared outta nowhere (my umbrella means no peripheral vision) and I knee-jerked and yelled out, “CLARRIE!!!” He said “how are ya?” I said, “better now that I’ve seen you here!” Dave, the physio called him to go and as he walked away I yelled out, “We love you Clarry!” He actually responded, “I love you, too.” 😅 Afterwards he came over and we had an awesome chat. It’s the happiest I’ve ever seen him. He told me about his 10 days with Chin and his family. I said, “Kade’s a great kid.” Clarrie says, [censored] oath he is!” That’s so Clarrie.  😁 He reckons he needs to lose five kilos. I said, “where the hell from?” He patted his belly. He ran off with the physio and when he came back to the fence he said, “you’re still here.” I said, “Yep, got a problem with that, fat-guts?” He laughed and said, “you’re a real fan” meaning because of the weather. I said I most definitely am. He pointed to his temple and said, “We remember this.” I mean, we hear things like this from the girls all the time. It’s rare that one of the boys say it.

I’m back again. We just chatted again. He’s so funny. I said I’d better step back from him lest I take his eye out with my umbrella. Dave said, “geez imagine if that happened!” and we laughed. Clarrie says, “it wouldn’t matter, I’ve got two.” Then I said, “seriously Clarrie, you need to know us supporters love you so much, we’ve got your back, we always have and we always will, and we’ll always love you.” He said, “well someone has to” (love him). Before I could say anything he quickly added, “nah, thanks for that.”

Tearing up wcw, reading this. thanks so much for conveying to him what he means to us all. And it sounds like he felt it

Considering they have just upgraded Turner to the senior list on a 2 year deal I would suggest that the coaching department are supremely confident he'll make it.

He'll play as the 3rd tall defender next year.
