We’re not going to beat Gunston, are we?

If we kick 2 more goals, it’ll be a draw with Gunston…

We’re not exactly making a great pitch for a (good) new coach, hey?

Sun’s out, might catch some of that. This is…. Gross. If Troy wants a coaching gig, he’s writing his CV right now. Time to do something… different?

GAMEDAY: Rd 23 vs Hawthorn
don’t say that! If we get beaten soundly by the hawks then we beat the pies next week, that could knock them out of the finals! If we can’t make it, I’m happy taking someone else with us. And no better team to drag down with us than the pies! 🤣

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Just got an email from the Club re the coach panel. Happy there are a few reasonable externals on the panel, Jobe Watson and Director of football at Storm...

Trade Targets
Yep - the whole trade 'em all thing is really interesting. Won't be able to field a team in 2026 at this rate! And to trade a known forward (which we sorely lack) for a complete unknown is... bold...at best.

Trade Targets
I don't disagree that he looked out of sorts at the beginning of the year. I also think, however, that he was being played out of position. Why was he so far up the ground? Despite the fact that nearly none of our guys lower the eyes, he's one of the smartest lead up forwards we have! And he was nowhere near where we were bombing the ball. If we replace him, who is going to score those 40 goals?? Anyway, you correctly reference his listless start to the year (which I still think was exacerbated by being played out of position) - which if he continued that way, fine, there's maybe an argument to consider an alternative. But if he ends the year playing well (he can only score goals against the teams he plays, he played against soft teams at the beginning of the year and was poor), and with his mojo back, wouldn't you want that version in the team next year? I suspect and hope the next coach will have taken notes that this guy knows how to lead into space and is usually a deadeye in front of goal (a rarity in our team).

Trade Targets
Fritsch being named here as one to let go?? WHY? We already struggle to kick a big enough score, and we're going to drop a guy still in his prime - one of our best kicks for goal (even if that's not really saying much)...? I get it, some here don't think he's a big enough tackler or hard enough runner. Personally, I don't think that needs to be his strength. He never was any of those things. He's 2nd on our goalkickers list this year, and in my opinion will probably finish first, with close to 40. Which is about right, particularly given he was dropped a few times and had a rough first half of the year. I've been really happy with his last 1-2 months of footy. He looks more focused to me, and found his mojo. If he can carry that into 2026, with continued support from Melk (I hope for 1 more year, he looks fit to me!!) and JVR having the year he should have had this year plus one target forward. We need more goals, not less. It's a keep for mine. Big keep.

What the New Coach needs to fix?
Saw this - wowee. Love Roos, I'll take any positivity we can get right now!

What the New Coach needs to fix?
Skills and pride in playing a reliable brand of footy every week, for 4 quarters. No more brain fades/no-shows etc Win or lose, you should know which team is going to turn up to play footy and have a crack. The rest will follow from the above.

Doggies are fighting for their year here Gonna take some magic to get past them I think. We need someone like Koz to step up and do something special.

Kamikaze footy. If we can’t make the finals, there might be some joy in busting some other team’s joy lol. God knows we’ve been on the other end of it haha. Let’s just end this season the way we want to start 2026.

How you doing?
Sad for Goody, you could/can see how much he cares about the club and those sorts of people are hard to come by. We can talk all day about whether he was the right man for the job this/next year, but none of that changes the joy he brought to the club. We will always have that pure euphoria of 2021. The bang bang bang. The most devastating qtr of footy in a GF ever. Maybe even finals series. But for whatever reason Goody AND the club/ players just could not get things to click in the last two years. We could have won a flag in ‘23 if not for some bad luck. Fight me. He did right by us and he’s a Dee for life as far as I’m concerned, regardless of where he goes next. And he will land OK. Sad for Goody and the ‘what might have been’ had it clicked next year. I love a good redemption story, but we won’t get it now.

Simon Goodwin respect thread.
I believe Goody came to love the club (and was loved by the players) and led us to much success as stated above. I'll kind of miss that (sometimes) frustrating smirk/zen state following the games! All the best Goody, thank you for helping us climb back into relevance and, of course, our drought-breaking flag.

Simon Goodwin Sacked
Presser did not indicate a mutual agreement departure... Very uncomfortable viewing at times, felt for Goody. I believe he loves the club and feels we are headed in the right direction (whether you or I agree in full/part/not at all), and handled himself extremely well in the circumstances. Which is not surprising given his cool, calm (sometimes frustratingly so) manner following games.
