No doubt there will be some spicy comments on this thread. Thanks for 11 years of service Greg.

Rivers signed on till 2027 only just last year. I get the “every player is gettable” nature of AFL contracts these days, but how would a deal with a WA team play out in this scenario?
-
Yeah, I’d say a busted jaw and several dislodged teeth fits the description of “really ugly”.
-
Yep. Insane thing to do, and all the more nuts because he was an otherwise very reserved AA wingman. He might have even qualified for the AFL “Good Guy Pass™️” if it was seven years later. Bradshaw was 18 years old. Smashed jaw and dislodged teeth, in tears with so much pain he wouldn’t let them pull his mouth guard out. Poor Mrs. Brayshaw has had to deal with a lot watching her sons play footy. I read an interview with Andrew Brayshaw, who wanted it known that he’d forgiven Gaff (who incidentally grew up a Dees supporter). In a very eerie coincidence, Andrew Gaff arrived at Andrew Brayshaw’s house with an apology and a bunch of flowers. At least he wasn’t mentally-busted enough to bring wine though.

Great news. Four years is well and truly in order. Lingers is not going to lose that military-grade tank of his anytime soon.

Ok if that’s who you meant that is a MASSIVE fkup!

Do you need reminding of what he said about Jim Stynes after he died? Akermanis is roundly despised by the football community, not least of all the MFC, and is eking out a living as two-bit real estate agent these days, and somehow HE gives real estate agents a bad name.

Hurts watching Jesse Hogan playing such good footy these days.

Calling it: Bulldogs v Dockers GF.

The biggest failure of the club (since winning the premiership) has been the inability to secure a proper training base. Whoever we have in our recruiting department will always have the challenge of selling the commutes to Casey to any curious prospects.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/1180696 Can we shut this ridiculous thread down now?
-
ANB definitely didn’t have many options but getting pinged for HTB was surely the least desirable one.
-
Yep. It comes down to some very basic stuff - TMac being far too close to Toby when taking a free kick, Petty dishing off a handball from a free kick to Rivers who was basically already mid-tackle at the time, players constantly over-running the ball (JVR), Nibbler’s lack of awareness. Lots of these small moments that add up to being all the difference. That and a distinct lack of urgency at times in the final quarter. The paddling around of the ball, with so much work to do in a short time, was deeply frustrating.
-
Clearly it isn’t. Pre-seasons are for getting a player’s fitness raised as high as possible, which they work at maintaining throughout the season. If anything, the H&A season eats away at those levels. Very rare to see a player’s fitness significantly increase during them.
-
Petty has been dreadful tonight.

Would require a guaranteed Dockers appearance in the GF to get Kevin interested.

It’s this kind of mentality - that it “needs” to have mass appeal - that keeps the whole effort firmly in the land of dullness. The Grand Final already has mass appeal. It’s not going to either gain or lose viewership because Russell Brand’s ex is plasticising her way through some tawdry corporate-pop anthems. Just wheel out Mike Brady while Angry laps him in the Batmobile and be done with it.

It’s funny, over on Reddit AFL there’s been a minor movement over the past few years to get the Gizz to play a GF. Not that the AFL would ever tweak that they’re one of the biggest Australian bands currently touring the world, but they’ve said they’d never do it anyway. Nothing against the game (one of their first singles was called “Footy”) but they’re simply not interested in the trappings of mainstream recognition. Another wise move from them.

Baker Boy performed at a GF not that long ago. And quite a momentous game it was, too.
-
To rant about cultural decline or play at the GF?
-
Yep, the infantilisation of popular culture is a thing. I could write far too much about it, but I’ll spare you all.
-
For me, it’s because of our form since defeating the Cats back in RD 8. Since then we’ve had a total of four wins - three of which were against lowly teams - Saints, Roos (which we nearly lost) and Weagles. And if Essendon are indeed the pretenders so many label them as, then basically not one “scalp” since the beginning of May. The tightness of the AFL ladder this year flatters many, including us. We may Bradbury our way into the eight this year, but if I’m honest, I think I’d rather see a bunch of early surgeries and an extra few weeks of pre-season than we’ve been afforded in recent years.

You pretty much named it already. Reductive reasoning.

Kev, you mentioned you’re overseas. Are you in the mountains of Tibet by any chance?

I’m mates with their Head of Operations. Trying to think of the perfect text message that will completely derail them. Any suggestions welcome.
