The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Deemania since 56 replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
Could be ... might not be - depends on the interpretation that will be slightly downcast after this season. I'd like to see better coaching ameliorating our consistent woes onfield. Of the three you suggest, if one midfielder had to go then it could well be Viney whose form and questionable playing routines (inviting opponents to take him on, for example) hamper the Team; further, he is not quite the kind of guy we need at the moment as a player and certainly, as a captain. -
The problem all year.
-
Tick, correct.
-
Quite observable - he plays for the Filth; therefore, he is allowed to do this against an opponent who is a far better ruckman. Max has to be blocked, held, screened, pushed every game - at all forms of ruck contests including pack marks. The green snot goblins reckon it is fairy Nuff, obviously. It will descend into kicking him in the balls, next.
-
As for the trading of players before next season, I think we will be unable to trade anyone who has had something to do with Goodwin. No-one will be interested in picking up a player who is scarred for his football life. As for trading Goodwin, what in Heaven's name would be the reason to secure him as a coach?

GAMEDAY: Rd 21 vs Collingwood

We are faarrkked on the scoreboard, I'd reckon, but we can still play nasty against the Filth. -

Nice calculation. -
Brendan McCartney Leaving at Seasons End

Norm would go straight for the jugular with any player - no room for personality outcomes or self-interest. It was 'Team, team, team' and what you are doing to improve 'Team'? Now, get on with it. -

Tabacalera, of course. -

Sad loss. Should have been cut loose to focus on Casey depth and breed 'mongrel'. -
Angus Brayshaw to Fremantle Rumours
Deemania since 56 replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
It must be realised that with the confusion of the game plan through the midfield, Brayshaw cannot save the whole team. He is still in the top five players for the MFC - and should be retained just in case a new order of coaching takes place for the future and his skills - and those of Clarrie and Gawn - will elevate. Viney is in that basket, as well, and the necessary team reliance will resume whilst the rabble and lesser skills of many will dissipate. -
Obviously, Goodwin's first thought was a different but 'as expected' excuse that was not justifiable. Very much a jumble of unconvincing words already imparted to the death across the year. It is time he was replaced as the tendency to dodge the issues is far too repetitive - he has not developed the team across the board ( two teams actually as Casey is involved to the hilt) and in that regard, Casey - where he applies less interest - is out--performing his main charges.
-
OMac must be dropped for this game - too unable to contest the ball against an opponent, shirks the issues, reliant of chasing whilst getting further and further behind the spoiling zone, creates significant gaps in the backline arriving to the contest after the ball has been marked or delivered by hand and/or foot.
-
Left a great deal to be desired, even in the early, competitive moments life was very shaky. Holes in method, all over the ground.
-
Thought JKH was ok, just a little underdone but finds space and makes space to keep team possession. His handball is a weakness and at the contest, he can be easily managed physically.
-
Another error of many from Goodwin, exemplified this year for too long. As I have always stressed, Fritsch is a forward and is not a backman. The guy's career has been hampered alongside the performance of the team.

Sam Frost - Contract status
Deemania since 56 replied to Red and Blue realist's topic in Melbourne Demons
Reckon he would be a good wingman; reckon he is an asset at CHB. If he didn't have to double-team when OMac is in the team, he'd be a helluva backman across a whole game rather than being exhausted by the third quarter time after covering his own man and that of OMac for the first three quarters. Frosty is developing a style - it is just unconventional; he is going to be even more effective in the future so sign him up now. -
About time as members and supporters that we 'tanked' for a new coach.

I wouldn't mind seeing Donald Duck come in at the expense of OMac. -
Pray for a game-ending earthquake at quarter time!
-
My Goodness! OMac in again? Heaven help us. All the Demon backs will have to cover for him against Richmond just to fill the OMac gap (and simultaneously be caught, repeatedly, out of position many, many times - prepare ye the way of the rampant Tiger forwards. Goodwin could not have done better for those opportunistic runners. We know where the attack will be directed: at OMac wherever he may be. He is as good as two men missing for most of the game and into the last quarter, three or four more men missing as our other backs display total exhaustion from the now-required double-teaming for three quarters. Frosty and HIbberd will bear the brunt of it all and Salem will be shagged by half-time.

Just a little worried about Lever - despite the fanfares and costs in accessing him - becoming what might be known as a 'key defender'. I do not really see him as such; he is slight, injury-prone, somewhat hesitant yet remains a very good intercept player. He is not the player he was at the Crows, either. A couple of good games does not a summer make - let alone a strong backline. -
Nearly hit the number on the head. I'd be dropping out, too. That would make it 40 001 as 55 years is a long time.
-
I just wish Ronald Dale could be heard before it is too late. He'd know what to say, do and expect - and could put it appropriately to those ears that have consistently failed the Members and supporters.

Roosy: "Deplorable" Dees have "no recognisable brand"
Deemania since 56 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agreed in large part. Football success is about keeping a team (head) above the waterline. It does not have to be a premiership - that would be nice - it is more about being recognised as competitive, reliably so, and being difficult to beat. Three things should occur simultaneously: a ) recruiting players who can develop; b) providing a lattice upon which training and whole team development are sustained and diversified, and c) maintaining a consistent, elite team with interim / longer-term replacements at the ready.
