  1. 18 were drafted and developed by the dees and, of the top 10, eight were home grown. All 18 earned and deserved their place in the team on GF day. There were no easy spots or players making up the numbers. Only 5 out of 23 came from other clubs. But what a five - May, Lever, Langdon, Brown and Hibbert. Three AAs, a champion goalkicker and the best wingman in the league. Kudos to the club.
  2. Now I can believe that it happened.

The umpire was innocent. Leave him alone. Greene got the minimum he deserved.
  4. The youtube vision of Clarry before he was drafted showed him handballing over his head from within packs. It was the feature I liked most about him
  5. To me the main difference was that doggies set up to allow their lefties to sweep and kick by gathering the ball from the back of the pack and running around. Makes bont look good but is slow. Whereas the dees set up, particularly in the third quarter, to come out of the front of the pack and keep moving to goal. Daisy highlighted this in her commentary. Tracca's explosive exits for goals 2 and 3 in the first set (Fritsch and Brown) were masterful examples of playing to win, not look good. Similarly goals 2 and 3 at the end (Sparrow and Oliver) were again masterful examples. Viney, Petracca, Oliver and either Gawn or Jackson have to be, by some measure, the greatest midfield group going around today.
  6. Behind the goals has always been my preferred viewing aspect. There is so much extra to see and absorb that I am surprised that coaches don't have observers behind the goals in all matches. I would also suggest observers at the top of the grandstand to view the match as a contest of ants. Ball and player movements and set ups are much clearer than from ground level or lower level.
  7. Why was 1995 significant? Because it was nearly 10 years after the end of zoning so that teams that had prospered under zoning (eg. lollie blues) lost their advantage. No more easy picks.

So long as we don't play WC.
  9. Oliver's goal. Not just the speed, the beauty and the purity of the score but also because, watching it in replay, there is a sense of rampaging demons running over and past the only doggie in the way. Dominance.
  10. Taught Maxie how to do it too. Maxie gets many clearances and kicks long running goals.
  11. You can never watch the second half of the third quarter and the whole of the last quarter enough. Get in some practice for a long summer.
  12. Only ambition 1. counts. The rest will follow if we get it right. And we have..

For those of us who waited the whole 57 years, it is DEES FOREVER.

Don't despair, we have a lifetime to savour the moment. Slowly and longly.

The winning jockey's colours for the feature race on Saturday were red and blue. 1+9+6+4 = 20. 2020 was meant to be the year but due to the madness it was not a real year (16 min quarters, 17 rounds) so it doesn't count. Replaced by 2021.

I met Saty at training and at a family day many years ago. In our brief discussions, I was impressed by his deep knowledge and understanding of the game and observed his close, but respectful, relationship with the players that led to many insights that were unfairly derided on this forum. His return, even in a diminished role, would be appreciated.
  20. The last two goals in the 3rd quarter from centre bounces (in our run of three in less than a minute) were started by Jack pushing the ball out to the front of the pack for Tracca, Clarry and Dogga to grab, run with and deliver. It's a role that suits him well but does not often get recognition.
  21. Until proven otherwise, I say yes, 3 goals in less than a minute in a grand final is the quickest 3 goals ever. Check with Bruce's stats guru.
  22. Closer. Only need the whole family at the G for a flag and my footy life would be complete. I was there in 1964. I can't wait another 57 years.
  23. Not this millenium.
  24. Not enough. I am looking forward to a long and pleasant summer.
