What's a hollywood kick @Fat Tony? Is it the one that you think you can make (based on the evidence that you have done it in games before), and fail to make? Or something different? If the instructions for Lever are to where possible head up the centre, then so be it. I wholly agree - I mean Goodwin has a pretty good strike rate week to week, sure… but you’re right - he is not looking at the bigger picture, he is not succession planning - he is ultimately about himself… so is he the right guy? 🤨

Imagine changing your employer and then turning up to site with all the proper accreditation, head out and get booed by 'stakeholders', whilst you go about your paid job for 3 hours to provide entertainment for 'stakeholders' on a weekly basis... Imagine doing so when you are 19. Imagine thinking, "He's an AFL footballer, it's fair game, it comes with the territory..." It's an absolute [censored] disgrace by those that do it, and by those that condone it and the apologists. I am so surprised that where we are culturally in 2023, and how the AFL positions itself around mental health that it has not been addressed by the AFL publicly. The AFL need to disentangle the right to boo about incidents in a match, vs systemic individually directed bullying... Yes, it's a mental health issue.

With all due respect to the writer - I wish writers/journalists/pundits wouldn't dumb down language when referencing a match. I'd argue, we didn't have an 'off week'. May looked hobbled, Lever was out with an injury, Hibered was out injured, Gawn was out injured, and all these injuries combined contributed to a system that broke down....

Good point, and one that often gets missed when looking at games lost... It goes as far as each team at a pinch has a max of 2 'elite' midfielders, typically speaking on their list. If one or both go down injured - then the consensus is that teams don't 'bat deep' enough. No team bats THAT deep..ever... The greatest predictor of premiership contention is elite talent and having your top end talent on the park without minor injuries or discomfort. There is further nuance, of choosing to play whilst slightly injured, how that is played (or not discussed) in the media. "I think the whole 'Bloods' culture like the 'Shinboner' spirit is a little overblown- particularly by the media who love the romanticism of it " Following on to that - it's an industry of percentages from a performance perspective. We had good culture in 2021, but not the years either side of it? Only one team a year, really taps into their 'cultural heritage', whilst the others don't? Culture isn't ethereal - culture is about a set of personal (not organisational) standards that are operationalised behaviourally contextually, repeated time and time again... not just when it's easy, and when it's difficult. Two things: On reflection, remember how around three weeks ago, Geelong had fallen off a cliff. Chris is a very very good coach. You don't stick around a club as long as he has as if it's an autocracy, or if you're a bit ordinary at what you do. Three weeks ago, Geelong were going to 'not' make the finals, now they look like premiership contenders. There is enough evidence that you are still a premiership contender if you lose to teams on paper that you 'shouldn't' (in this case GC Suns).... this evidence is transferable to Melbourne and it's loss to Essendon, and subsequent loses throughout the year.
