  1. I can see that Lever will shuffle around our defensive priorities, but what about the fact that TMAC has shown in the past month that we don't need a ruck/fwd or CHF as an imediate priority with Weideman 2 years away from being an effective CHF? Maybe LEVER is the insurance on Weidemann for the next 2 years as 1 of TMAC/FROST or OMAC will play forward ? If Weideman (God Forbid) ends up a dud, then we'd have a hole at CHF that would take TMAC away from our defence permanently. Assuming Pederson is 2 years from retirement. So recruiting Lever leaves our defence 1 player too tall, but it also allows our forward line 1 tall swingman forward. I don't have faith in Wiedeman and i dont have faith in recruiting Tippett. So recruit Lever and keep TMAC/PEDO forward. If Garland is depth this year, why can't Frost/Omac be a depth player that waits in the wings for an injury? Hogan,Watts, Pedo forward TMAC,LEVER & OMAC or FROST. Pedo goes down with injury and you move a defender back into the side and push tmac forward. OUr defensive stocks won't remain injury free next year now that this year they've been injury free. It's karma
  2. Id retire in Thailand after 212k a year for 4 years tbqh. Anyway. Topic. Maybe this year has told our coaches that we need insurance on Weidemann and TMAC playing forward has been the godsend that has sured up our chf role in the event that Weeds career is smoked but LEVER is the insurance on Weidemann really, not Frost or Omac. Maybe Frost or Omac will provide us with trade ammunition to bring in another A grade mid if we have a glut of defenders in the future but until then we need to cover CHF. Probably speaks of our lack of faith in bringing in Reid or Tippet
  3. 800k a year was 640k before the CBA though. Is it really big overs?
  4. So now we know what it will take. Any takers on spending that much? Additional Q for those in the know, can Melbourne afford to make this kind of offer and also put money aside for our core group of talent?
  5. "Channel 7 have stated that the Bulldogs will offer Jake Lever a $4 million+ deal over 5 years"
  6. I'd also like him to change his boots and wear the longer wet weather screw ins. He looks like he's running on ice sometimes.
  7. We? You should think a little deeper outside the hive-mind. Not all 'Give 110% effort!' and 'never give up' tactics are correct all the time. If you know your limitations, you play smarter and contest in a different way. If there's no way you can run down a player, don't chase (Edit: Sprint) Why bother trying to do something 'symbolic' for the fans appeasement? That's just dumb. Brayshaw will come in and have to learn a similar way of playing differently to the consensus of how you should go about it with his concussion issues, just like Jordan is doing with the adjustments he has to make with his speed limitation and energy output.
  8. I've noticed a lot of demonlanders trash Lewis 'effort' when he 'gives up' chasing. I think he just knows his speed limitation and is conserving energy. It may look ugly, but if it helps him still be running around at the end of the game and not sitting on the bench due to fatigue impacting the clubs rotations, then it's fine.
  9. Motlop had a 44 goal season in 13 and a 36 goal season in 15, in that regard he's a big upgrade on Kent. I think the problem for Geelong was that they've tried to turn him into an outside running midfield and he just is not up to the task, park him in the forward line and I think he could show a fair bit. People took aim at me last year for saying we have a good culture for him in regard to other indigenous players by saying "how is his ethnicity relevant?" Well there could be a sense of kinship there surrounded by a player like Neville Jetta who's a stand up community leader and Garlett playing exceptionally well this year to keep Motlop training hard as his reputation is being lazy even with Selwood and Dangerfield around him. So in that regard, we could perhaps provide something Geelong can't . We also don't make our players drink our captains bathwater.
  10. Let's come back to the present though, would we give up a pick 10-14 at the end of the year for Zak Jones? On current form, would we trade Dom Tyson for Jones? I think most would say yes. Or going back to the draft year, would we take Salem + Jones instead of Salem + Tyson OVER Kelly? Why bring up Tyson? Well I think he's round about the kind of player we'd select with pick 10-14 i think.

  12. I have to wonder, if they're trying to off-load Tippett or Reid to keep Zak Jones, then we'd be best not taking the bait (if facebook tippett rumour is true) and instead making a push for Jones and considering Pedo as our full time CHF/ruck chop out for next year and re-assessing the ruck/fwd need in 2018. That gives Sydney not enough time to find a buyer for K-Tip/Reid, and then we can sew the idea more into Jones' head of a move south. When opportunity knocks sums up the Zak Jones idea. So we give up a first round? Wouldn't we trade Dom Tyson (1st Rnd) for Zak Jones right now? I would.
  13. We may as well develop Oscar & Weideman for the same position at CHF or FF if Lever/May, Tmac, Frost are our tall defensive spine going forward, save injury. That way there is insurance on the forward position if one of them doesn't make the grade and another does and insurance on a defensive post. Double insurance if they are both adequate forwards and one of them nets us a trade. If not, then what was the plan for Garland next year? Delist him and give OMAC the Garland role that contends with a new recruit?
  14. Who exactly are the gigantic american basketball defender equivalents that combatted these players and delivered premierships for the Dogs and Hawks over the past few years? I don't recall Franklin, Reid, Tippet, Patton, Lobbe having much influence in last years games against the Dogs? Boyd won the Dogs their premiership playing the Gawn ruck role, not as a forward with long arms. All games are won in the midfield, Getting pro-active would be looking at bringing in a 200+cm forward to add to the dynamic, not throwing a Mason Cox in defence. Max Gawn can drop back in defence as a ruckmen, anything else would sacrifice our speed and agility. I don't see any gigantic defenders running around for Adelaide, GWS, Geelong or the Dogs right now. They do have 196cm defenders though. Maybe we'll have to wait and see how good Joel Smiths leap is in defence and whether we can use him to advantage if we do not land Lever or another.
  15. Just a thought, but he'd probably have got far more recognition nowadays if we'd traded him to West Coast instead of lowly Freo as it would've handed them both the 2006 AND 2005 premierships and put him back on the big MCG stage in September where he belongs!
  16. And on this topic, Paul Roos on League Teams said he'd like to see OMac play forward (Instead of TMAC) while we have the holes in our spine, as he played forward as a kid. Wouldn't it be ironic if OMac became a more than adequate forward with an ability to take a grab (add in some goalkicking training) and Wiedeman became a Dustin Fletcher esqe defender in the VFL (hopefully AFL too) - Worth a try if it plugged even 1 hole.
  17. When will he be? This season is showing that recruiting for a premiership in the next two years is what many teams should be doing including us, with one eye on the long term with responsible balance between using their draft picks for young players or trading them for established players. Zak Jones is a player that is ready to make an impact and be a solid contributor in 2018-2019. Stretch is currently in the VFL with no guarantee that he will become better than Zak Jones after 3 or 4 years. Same line of thinking goes into why we're wanting to recruit another forward or ruck/forward and not put all our eggs in the basket of hoping Weideman is a great player long term when the next 2 years are important in filling our holes because there is no guarantee that he will come on and if he doesn't, the team falls behind others long term and in the short term you're stuck with VFL level players rotating in and out of the side.
  18. Even if Oscar or Wiedemann really come on in two years, that leaves two years of stressful weight being placed on the other players imo. It doesn't lend well to contract extensions in the future for players who could feel burnt out. And if they don't come on, then we've got to insure ourselves against it. Two reasons to recruit May/Def and Wright/Fwd
  19. A few Sydney fans have said Zak has not been playing in defence most weeks but as an outside mid and only moved down there to help out a depleted backline earlier in the year as he's comfy 22, and developed there the years prior because that was where the only oppurtunity was (Stacked midfield). So he would be on the wing or would rotate through the middle at our club. They expect him to develop into an outside mid as Rohan winds down me thinks. Edit: Ok Rohan is younger than i expected at 26, but he's so injury prone anyway. and Kieran Jack also finished.
  20. Aside from the calls for a Bruest or Gunston. What about a delisted player? Lindsay Thomas is currently drawing the ire of Kanga fans for suspension and form and might be delisted at the end of the year. If he was free, why not? He's kicked 322 goals in 200 games. He's currently 29 and maybe has another year or two. I'm glad demonland doesn't have a downvote button after this comment although the Moderators could ban me.
  21. If Hibbo and Melk are looked at as an 800k/yr package, then it really isnt a big deal for our club to offer 800 or more with front loading accounting creativity to get an A grade player like Kelly.
  22. J Howe. 80 goals from 100 games
  23. Paddy playing like he's going to jump ship and head to another club on a big offer. Collingwood you'd think?
  24. Prefer to chase Rampe or Alir Alir from Sydney. Need to spend 500-700 on an elite defender, not stack our team with another average one
  25. In an alt universe, Lewis didn't take out Cripps and Carlton beat us. We then win the following 3 games to redeem our fanbase after the digraceful Carlton effort. Did he do it as third man up around the ground, or some lone centre bounces ? Said this yesterday, but if our game plan is to blow teams out of the water, then we should have a defender to alternate in the ruck so that Watts stays forward. Or if Pedo and Hogan are forward, have Watts and Lewis in the midfield together but alternating ruck stoppages, similar to third man up, but not. So to clarify like, it would be 60or70% Pedo and 40or30% Watts/Lewis or some Frostiness.
