This is how I'd do it. Move the pre finals bye to before grand final (this should happen anyway ffs) Use the pre grand final bye weekend to have state of origin with players from the other 16 clubs. Rank the states and then have them play 1v2, 3v4, 5v6, 7v8 So might be, victoria v SA, wa v qld, tassie v nsw, nt vs act, For example. Higher ranked club hosts. Then, if you win your game you get to play in the "higher" game the next year. Or host. So if SA beat Victoria in the above scenario, they'd host the winner of WA v qld the next year in the 1v2 game. Victoria would get bumped to 3rd but would host the winner of tassie v nsw in the 3v4 game. For example. So it would be a continuous competition over the years. I hope that's made sense haha Have a trophy for being the #1 state. 4 games to watch (broadcast). 90% of the comp available. Spice on the matches cos they mean something. No big consequences for most injuries as end of season. Actually get to represent your state, not the allies. Just an idea.

If I didn't know better (I don't), I would actually suspect that game of being rigged by the umpires. fees given at key stages. obvious frees missed. frees given when undeserved. I mean, the AFL commissioner (I think) said he wanted the Dogs to win the flag in Jan of 2016, and the umpiring of them in that finals series was...interesting. Would the AFL like Collingwood to finish top so they can sell out 3 finals?

IF the MFC has half a brain they will offer to include the umpires training base in their plans at Caulfield.
