And, pray tell, who are these 'fast' players we should have drafted instead? Please provide examples.
-
Picked up a slab of Furphy from Uncle Dan's this morning and how we play tonight will dictate how much of it gets drunk this evening. I'm actually looking forward to kicking back and watching a Saturday night game that will be filled with long bombs to the top of the square, lots of fumbles and some dodgy performances down back that result in easy goals to the opposition. That said, I'm backing us in to win by about 6 goals to help us begin to get our season back on track.
-
Sorry, I was comparing Salem to Oliver and their kicking efficiency. Should have been clearer! All good points above, too.
-
I pay absolutely no attention to the TAC Cup. Not now that we're half decent and not in play for a pick inside the Top 20 anyway. So, therefore, I have no idea who the bloke is. I've heard of Rankine and Lukosius in the last few days, but that's it.

Any idea how old Noah Yze is, and if he's any good? If he has any skills like his old man then he'll be a welcome addition to the side in coming years!
-
He's a great kick, but, his sample is of a much smaller size because he only kicks the ball 5 or 6 times a game. Salem, for example, would easily get double that, hence it would affect his kicking percentage. It does show that, if Clarry can learn to kick just a little more, or get himself in positions to, then he will hit the target more often than not.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 16
Wiseblood replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Petty was picked due to good form at Casey, form he kept up over many weeks. It wasn't done on a whim. Joel Smith has not been a failure either as he's still in the side and playing his role well. He's no Lever, but he has a real crack, is athletic enough to easily keep up with his man and does all the team things first. His mistakes are minimal. So, a failure he is not. Won't argue the Tyson one. I don't think he really has a position in our side anymore. With Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw etc all playing the contested ball winning role, Tyson is too one paced and not skilfull enough to play a wing/half forward/half back role for us. -

He does fix our problems. Our backline was on fire before he went down, and that was due in large part to his leadership, footy IQ and footy skills. You are selling the bloke short. As for this years top 20 being 'exceptional' - we've all heard that before. Our first rounder this year still has every chance of being around about the 11-12 mark, which isn't superb by any stretch. The last 'super draft' that everyone refers to from 2001 had far more misses than hits. If you take out Judd, Ball and Hodge as the Top 3, an area we wouldn't have been picking in anyway, from picks 4 through to 30 only Bartel (#8), Dal Santo (#13), James Kelly (#17) and Steve Johnson (#24) could be considered gun picks. There are a heap of no name players who did nothing with their careers. After pick 30 you had guys like Sam Mitchell, Leigh Montagna, Dane Swan (pick #58!), Jarrad Waite andBrian Lake (#71) all taken in the second round and beyond. They can talk it all up all you like, but I think having what is considered a strong Top 20 works in our favour. Jason Taylor has a proven track record of securing talent later in the draft and I'd back him in to do so again. We didn't overpay at all for Lever. We paid market value for a bloke with 50 games under his belt and almost AA selection in his first few seasons in the game. -

No, we didn't. Seriously, we didn't. -
Cheers, titan. There would be numerous more examples of this if you had the time to go back through the post match threads. He won't admit he does it, but it's there in plain English.
-
He loves a new question. It's a tactic he uses when he know he has nothing else to add, so he'll throw a new one in there to try and take you off the scent. Invariably the question has little to do with what you're talking about and, often, it won't make a whole lot of sense.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 16

I'd normally agree with you Moonie, but I think it's time for Garlett to get another crack. We need a spark down there and he's served his time at Casey. Fingers crossed he can snag 3 or 4 goals for us on Saturday night! -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 16

Good selections overall. I think we needed to go a little smaller, especially in Darwin with the slippery conditions, but I think it makes us a more balanced side. Interestingly, Frost has been named at FF. Will he actually play there is another thing, but they might be using him as the pinch hitter in the ruck this week. -
You miss my point. He gave that interview when he was under immense pressure. He's never done it again. It was described as one of the most bizarre interviews in Premier League history, and it didn't galvanise the squad at all. Goodwin handles the media fine. He answers the questions, keeps the focus on himself and protects the players. In this day and age, that's his job. How often is there a needless headline based on a media appearance from him? Never. He's not stupid enough to say needless things to heap more pressure on himself and the club after a loss. You go out there, act professionally and then do the hard stuff when the cameras and microphones are gone.
-
And how did that work out for him? He was out of a job very soon after, and he was currently under the pump for a variety of other reasons as well. Again, get used to it. You don't have to like it, but you'll have to accept it's 2018, not 1978, no matter how much you wish it were.
-
Great. But I can't fathom why you don't understand that they are required to talk to the media and do so in a respectful manner, otherwise they risk fines from the AFL. I get the sentiment that we want actions rather than words, but you're going to have to accept that the 'words' part will always be there, like it or not.
-
Agreed. No chance they are trade bait. Good deals for both as well. Harmes has quietly been having a good year, while Wagner is handy for depth on a one year deal.
-
Only my head. On reflection I should have made it 30 goals.
-
Maybe he should go with the Jose Mourinho style of interview?
-
For someone who hates it when others judge his thoughts, replies and what he thinks, it seems hypocritical of you to call me a 'very sick man'. Takes one to know one I guess.
-
And if we win you'll find something negative. Swings and roundabouts and all that...
-
I struggled this week, mate. If we roll over against Freo I don't think I'll be able to pull anything positive out of the bag!
-
Dees by 20 goals. Freo won't score, Petty to take 22 intercept marks, Trac to have 47 disposals, Hogan to kick 11 goals.
-
You can't win with him, though. If it was a long injury list he'd be blaming it on the Norm Smith Curse, Dave Misson is absolute rubbish, players getting injured means they have zero passion and so forth. He'll change anything in any way he can to fit his narrative.
-
No [censored] it's his job to win a flag. Whether you like it or not, the way he interacts with the media is how pretty much every coach does it and will continue to do it. Sure, there are different personalities and such, but they do the bulk of their work individually with the players and do it away from prying eyes. That's just the way it is.
