I read it on another thread here actually (can't find it now sorry)...... Apparently he was referred to as Moloney.

Great post Real Demon...... I agree with you entirely in that we cast aspersions and make opinions without knowing all the facts and the ones we do have are from an outside perspective. This is not always a bad thing and it is always interesting (well, nearly always) and generally entertaining, but it is probably worth remembering that we are still dealing with people and their lives and livelihoods (whether that be player, coach or whoever) and maybe we shouldn't be so flippant with that. I said earlier that I really have no concrete idea whether Neale should or shouldn't continue on as our coach. I can see and understand both sides of the argument and both make sense. And while this year is nearly impossible to judge him on there is still the other ten years in which we really haven't achieved the heights we all assume we should have. And there are a number of other valid concerns regarding his coaching. The flip side is that he is now and has been great for the club, giving us stability and he is an excellent spokesman to try and get our voice heard in such a crowded marketplace. But at the end of the day is that enough to judge a coach on, or should it be just about what goes on on the field? And after ten years on the face of it he probably and unfortunately comes up a bit short. But if the board chooses not to replace him this year (a decision that they have a hell of a lot more understanding of than any of us here would, I hope) then he will continue to have my full and undivided support. But they had better get this decision right, for the future of the club.

"I felt an itch in the sphincter" - brad green on ABC radio

Funny stuff...... It is always great to see a sense of humour !!! -
Amen to that...... And to be honest I am not surprised that members of the media don't know or have instant and immediate recall of every player on every list in the competition. Newton has not played a senior match for the Dees, and while we all think that he is close unless these Triple M guys actually pay any attention to what is going on at Sandy (and all the other VFL clubs, just in case someone from St Kilda rings in to ask about a unplayed Saint at the Scorpions or a Bulldog supporter wants to know about a particular contracted player at Werribee) then why would they have that particular piece of knowedge about this particular player at this point in time. In actual fact the question, if it was going to be aired, should have been held in a cue (and I have worked in talk back radio) while the required info was found for the guys on the air so that they didn't look so publicly stupid. And this apparently happened while they were on air anyway, which is just poor management. Just my opinion of course !!!

Credit where it is due he was good yesterday and should hold his spot next week. But while I am not one to be particularly critical of our players some of it here has been justified. I just hope that we see the best out of him, like yesterday, for as long as we have him. For how ever long that may be?!!!

Melbourne Players - A delight at an Oz Kick Clinic
QueenC replied to Maybe next year's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for the report MNY..... I always love reading the more behind the scenes stuff like that !!! -
Doesn't make Roos' comments about the state of the game and where we are heading with it wrong though.
-
It kind of tells you exactly how they are really going in their coverage and reporting of the code.......
-
Probably not on the whole DD, but the new rules are frustrating a lot of long term fans and are certainly not helping in growing the game, especially up here which is where the AFL is trying to sqeeze out two ingrained sports, which for better or worse right now are perceived as a hell of a lot "tougher". So maybe they will turn away, but I didn't certainly like some of the insanely soft free kicks I saw last night. Seriously, you can bump into people on the train with more force than some of the free kicks awarded last night. And from the Sydney press..... Swans lose by a point Roos resisted commenting specifically on the umpiring out of fear of the AFL's zero tolerance policy on criticising the officiating, however, he was confident that if he was going to give the umps a serve the angry Swans fans would have chipped in to cover the fine. "I reckon I could've collected $10,000 from the crowd,'' Roos said. Roos said he had never seen an SCG crowd turn that nasty as they booed and jeered the umpires and Matthew Lloyd when he collected the Marn Grook trophy after the game
-
I was at the game and there were a real sting to the match...... And the crowd was not impressed (and rightly so) with a lot of the controversial or just plain wrong umpiring decisions. Roos warns crowds will turn off game 'Aussie Rules' turning Gaelic, says Roos Roos didn't dispute that the Bombers were deserving winners after they emerged victorious in a nail-biting 11.8 (74) to 11.7 (73) triumph. But the style of football Roos is certain rule makers would prefer to see is clearly not to his liking...... The umpires were helped from the ground by a significant security presence as hails of boos rained down from all around after a game littered with controversial moments.....

I obviously agree with that, well said Kit !!!
-
Well considering that Channel 7 didn't even know who Daniel Bell was apparently, you can't expect anything less unforunately  !!!
-
Congrats Finksy!!! And please pass on that feeling if it ever strikes you again it could prove profitable if nothing else :D !!!

6. Green 5. Bell 4. Carroll 3. Davey 2. Bruce 1. Jones

So do a hell of a lot of other, fairly well informed folk around here.....
-
Good grief, can't we just congratulate our guys for standing up in yesterdays match, without sending them packing in the same breath?
-
Ain't that the truth..... But asking for a bit more faith in some of our younger players would not be out of line for a hell of a lot of people.
-
Well said Jaded and I could not agree with you more....... You and Dan have every reason to scream "I told you so" from the highest roof top, as you guys have been supporting, and campaigning for this, kid of a hell of a long time now. You should be very proud that he is (and has been all year) showing everyone else what he is actually capable of. It also goes to show that there are a hell of a lot of folk who will just right our players off with no real understanding that it takes an individual time and effort for a player to come good, and frankly that lack of faith is unbelievably sad and they should be hanging their heads in shame. Daniel Bell was simply awesome yesterday and should be congratulated for shoring up our back line and giving the opposition absolutely nothing. Brilliant game, well done Daniel !!!
-
The calls we make on (our poor) players are just as subjective, and aren't necessarily well informed opinions either...... I agree with Nasher, that we don't have all the facts and our opinions on whether we want or don't want Daniher to coach next year are exactly that - our individual opinions. There are usually good reasons we have formed these opinions, but it doesn't make them automatically right or wrong. As for whether I want to see Daniher re-signed for another year? I truly have no idea, because I can see and understand both sides of the argument that has been made here, there and everywhere. But I don't know the internal workings, just the external perceptions. FWIW my dad says no. But at the end of the day it is worth remembering that one win can be a band aid, and doesn't change much, despite making us all feel better.
-
Walls actually said at some point after one of the other commentators mentioned the article and the fact that maybe he fired them up, that maybe now their (Green, Bruce and Johnstone) trade value's was now in the order of a first round pick. The conversation was very short and sharp though. As for some of us feeling the need to trade someone new this week..... There will always be someone to kick the hell out of, and if not then there are those around here who will just go and find someone.
-
I agreed with this when (I think) Jaded brought it up last year as well....... We all think that McLean will probably be the next captain, but is he actually ready, physically or mentally, to take that particular mantel yet? I don't know and neither do we. But at the very least there has to be another option, and Brad Green could well be it. To me when he plays like this Green has always given a very clear indication of being able to take that next step. Of course we all want him to play like this a hell of a lot more often, but he was brilliant and inspirational today and his presence was everywhere. And his field kicking looked pretty damn accurate as well. Well done Brad, a game definitely worth savouring :D !!! But honestly you have to wonder just how it is that this furfy is still doing the rounds. He is anything but and those marks were fantastic.

Yep, this thread is exactly what I expected from people around here, unfortunately....... It was unbelievably sad when Miller was being held single handedly responsible for all those losses (even the ones we probably should have won) when he was one of the few who was working their ass off in a losing side at the beginning of the year, and now this. So if we had snuck over the line last week what would have been peoples response then? We won in spite of him? Never mind I know that answer. Bate was very good, but performed the same role, just a little better, right down to some of the hand balling manoeuvre's everyone here [censored] Miller out about. I thought that Sylvia was also great but the win is nothing more than a coincidence, especially after the last few weeks of very close losses. Whether he is the answer at CHF is definitely a question for the club, but seriously for once in your lives, just for once leave him alone. If and when he plays again then judge him then, don't beat him up for not being there.

Jeff White says: Lack of senior leadership to blame
QueenC replied to Jaded No More's topic in Melbourne Demons
Cheers guys..... That speech really does make for a rather brilliant read. I can only imagine how empowering it must have been for the new (and old) Swans to hear that coming from a captain and player like Kirk. And I just am thankful that the Telegraph realised this and printed it.
