Interesting reflection of the "team"...... There has been an ongoing problem with the "team" things all year. The shepherding, the tackling etc seems to have slipped out of our game altogether. Pound for pound we are probably more talented than the Kangaroos, but there is a sense of team that they have and we don't at the moment. Unfortunately the working for each other stuff just doesn't seem to be there. And I hope that description made sense to those reading this, because it came out a lot more frilly than I usually like !!!

Well those with more experience haven't as yet, but maybe he could. I don't really know....... But it worries me that he seems to being billed in here as some kind of all powerful saviour to all of our forward problems. Good at Sandy doesn't always translate, and we have to trust those that know better than we do about whether he is ready for the jump up. He will debut when the folk in charge think he is ready to do so. It will happen soon enough. My worry is what happens if he doesn't come up to scratch straight away? Do we toss insults and criticism at him and write him off, as seems to be the way. I want him totally ready to do so before debuting. And I don't expect him to solve all our problems. It could also be worth remembering that the forwards are not our only problem. As diesel said getting it in there with any great accuracy and consistency has been an enormous detriment to getting the scores on the board. And if that continues it won't matter who is playing up there !!!

What is his tribunal record like over all?

It could also be interesting to see what happens to Brett Kirk....... He will more than likely be looked at for seemingly running into Chad Cornes front on as they were both going for the ball in the Swans win yesterday over Port.

I'm with Nasher...... It was definitely sloppy but not intentional, but if the AFL is true to their word (and try not to laugh at my attempted sincerity in saying that) about penalising those making high contact to those with their heads over the ball then he should get at least a week. That being said, who the hell really knows these days ?!!!

And those excessive-type claims on a kid yet to debut make me very nervous !!!

Should have used "run and carry"...
QueenC replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ahhh true, but by now they are so confused they don't know what they are meant to be doing !!! -
I also agree with your points Jaded..... Newton will rightly debut and probably pretty soon (although please lets not build him up as a saviour of our current position), but I agree that Frawley will more than likely get there first and that Daniher is still unlikely to debut two at once, especially with a few players returning from their injury lay-offs.

What would you have them do? Chuck a hissy fit after the siren sounds, shake the goals posts in anger, and then stomp off the ground in a collective strop like unsportsmanlike children? I have no problem witnessing my team behave with a sportsmanlike attitude in public, after a game is done. And frankly it doesn't make me doubt the hurt. But we have no idea what goes on behind closed doors, or on the flight back home, or how they actually felt or what was said, but to say that because they had the audacity to congratulate an opposition who was, lets face it, massively better, makes them accepting of their lot and form right now is ridiculous. This "acceptance of mediocrity" catch cry has become mantra around here. It does have some truth to it both in us and the club, but do you actually think anyone on that field wanted to accept what happened (the performance) out there yesterday simply because they chatted to their opposition? But the reality is that they lost and that has to be accepted and better with a good grace than bad IMO. But accepting the performance is a totally different argument. And besides yesterdays performance went way below mediocrity.

State of Origin, I would imagine

Well said Deetastic but, jumped before he got pushed is the fairly obvious rumour up here.......
-
Well said LT..... Hopefully this will be the trigger he apparently needed to further his career. And we will see a far more committed Byron in the future !!!

I'm with Rogue, who seems to be with condemned..... It really isn't that hard to believe.

Fox Sports News just said that Robbo would be playing for Sandy this week.

Voss preparing for coaching & Lot to learn, Vossy
QueenC replied to Finks's topic in Melbourne Demons
He certainly wouldn't be the craziest choice for coach in the world....... And he may just have the combination of youth, enthusiasm and, at least some experience, that we need. No-one wants another Watson-esque situation, but honestly Voss does have plenty working in his favour . -
Good to hear it from a champions perspective....... Lockett: Don't destroy contest Tim Morrissey with AAP May 17, 2007 12:00am AFL great Tony Lockett has slammed the league's new hands-in-the-back rule, saying it is destroying the traditional contest that is such a feature of the game. The reluctant superstar, who holds the AFL's goal kicking record of 1360, made a rare public appearance in Sydney to promote the sport at junior level. The former Sydney Swans and St Kilda full forward believes the new rule introduced this season has made life too difficult for defenders. Asked how many goals he could have ended up with under the new rule, the former Brownlow medallist replied: "How long is a bit of string? "For mine it's not a good rule I don't think. I think a contest between a forward and a back should be a contest and I think they've taken a fair bit out of that. "It makes it very hard for a back man to put enough physical pressure on a forward........ http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,2...9-11088,00.html or http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,2...1-23211,00.html (And woo hoo, thats 900 posts up for me !!!)

You're right Finks....... I was thinking the same thing when I saw the title for this thread. And it is really quite sad !!!

Congratulations to all those Sandy boys named in the respective representative squads.... And thanks to Bazza for letting us know :D !!!

Things to try? I'd like to see them score more points than the opposition, please. But maybe I'm easy ?!!!
-
FWIW I went with Pavlich.... But that is the real question isn't it, is one player, even Chris Judd, worth it? Especially considering that we would have to give up half the side to get him <_< !!!

I'm with you on this one Rhino..... It would seem that the creativity side of the sport definitely lies with the forwards because it is their job to get the ball through the big sticks no matter what. The defensive side of the game is to stop this and that doesn't take as much creativity, and can therefore probably be learned. And that is why the positions are valued differently to those in the know. It doesn't necessarily mean one is staggeringly more important than the other, the reality is probably quite the opposite in truth !!!
