I'm surprised those who normally preach xScore haven't mentioned that it was North 62.7 to Melb 55....

Treacy from Freo looks a likely type as a KPF.
-
Kangas look like theyll be OK: LDU, Larkey, Wardlaw, Sheezel, Zurhaar, Simpkin, Xerri, Archer, McKercher, Curtis, Duursma is a very good base to build from. Starting to show some heart as well.

I'm literally confused on how players should tackle these days, considering this one and a few last night called "dangerous tackle" and then the Dangerfield one (think he tried everything possible) who got a week. It's these inconsistencies that make it hard to watch. I seem to remember Cornes getting a fine for staging once and also one of their buddies Nick Riewoldt milking a free in front of goal (was meant to be given to another player). They're all hypocrites.

Yes the umpiring was atrocious, for both sides too. But that is a league wide problem currently. The introduction of the 4th umpire was meant to makes things easier but I actually think it's got much worse. I used to watch and analyse every game religiously not so long ago, but I find most games unbearable to watch from an umpiring perspective these days.
-
Yes about time, the efficiency probably got the win. 47 i50's to us.....48 to them.
-
We will turn it into a slog and hope we are close enough to snatch a win. Expecting a real dour contest. A good gauge for both clubs, not that we don't already know where we sit in the comp.
-
Positives: Rivers in the midfield (where he should always be now), McVee poise, May, Viney, TMAC did his job again, breast cancer awareness, holding on to win, kids getting gametime, Kynans tackle. Negatives; Pickett pulling out of contests lately (wonder if it has to do with his reports, Gawn sooking to umpires, how terrible we are actually playing, poor coaching, crowd numbers, skill level, lack of forwards with actual forward craft, Fritsch, Oliver.... (I'd look to trade him if what I'm hearing is true). Not that we don't know where we are at now considering our efforts against WCE, Frem, Coll and almost losing to North, but a real test against a red hot Brisbane will make or break our season officially I feel.

We are quite possibly the worst side in the comp currently, just atrocious football to watch. Every side has young players, however we also have a whole bunch of premiership players. They just look exhausted & bereft of confidence. Thank god for May and Viney.

We needed it against West Coast, Fremantle and definitely Collingwood too…..

Cats now lost 6 of their last 7?
-
I don't see either as forwards. A defensive forward is a negative move IMO, we have what, 2-3 of them. What we need are real forwards with forward craft, make the opposition chase us, not the other way around. I see Turner as a Lever replacement, Petty quite possible a May replacement. That's where they are best. Unsure if Petty will even stay at the Dees though. I'm still not sold on JVR yet like many others. Goes missing for large periods in game. However is still only a kid so I will remain patient. We are asking a lot of him.
-
The problem is, Petty isn't an AFL forward and never will be. He needs to go back to defence where he excels in reading the play and is very serviceable defender. He also looks so disinterested it isn't funny.
-
K Brown, another baffling selection to go with a heap of others this year. I like the kid, but seriously.
-
It'll be interesting to see if the players drop their heads even further with Petracca out. Hopefully some kids get a shot for a while, ie; Tholstrup and Woewodin.

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
SFebes replied to pitmaster's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't want to distrust judgement from a doctor, however it was pretty obvious that Christian wasn't close to being right to coming back on. You could see just watching him and the commentators on the radio were shocked and questioning it as he was in clear pain. It is the fault of Petracca and the medicos IMO, however the medicos have let him down. -
I’m convinced Goodwin has lost the players now after breaking it all down. On a side note, even players recalled this year after poor performances at Casey or straight back into the seniors must be shocked they’re even playing. Ie; BBB, Laurie, Hunter, McAdam, Billings, Petty, Turner, Tholstrup, to name a few. It is desperation by Goodwin and sets a bad example. Also, play players to their strengths, Petty and Turner aren’t AFL forwards! I also think it’s a combination of poor coaching and off field dramas catching up with them. People talk about the Coll and Frem losses, but I was at the WCE game and it was appalling to watch as well. We hear about learnings, reviews, bouncing back but all I ever hear is spin.

Time for a Change….Don’t wait another 2 years…
SFebes replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
Out of curiosity, can anyone remember how many disposals Hunter had at Casey before being recalled? I remember watching the game and he shocking. For some reason I thought it was quite low and the commentators said he has 2 effective disposals or kicks. Just curious as he got recalled off that performance from memory. -

We've only laid 44 tackles, Pies have laid 50% more...
-
We have kicked 4 goals in 4 quarters, against a side who has 11 best 22 out and 8 from their premiership side. Made no statement as a club, just turned it into a slog to not get blown away. Very disappointing. As Neale said, when all is said and done, more is said than done. Even the commentators have made comment of Goodwin always talking... I'm not sure what has happened lately, but it seems it is now deeper than I thought.

Viney - 1 clearance Oliver - 44% KE

Hmmmm. Considering they have 11 best 22 out and 8 from their premiership side. Very weak looking, when we needed a ruthless, pressure manic statement.
