  1. A week for Jvr seems soft. I smell something bad coming.
  2. Theme for a while. Our touted Mids were all sound asleep thr first half. Great 2nd half but just too late to come to the party. I dont get Trac at all . Hes clearly an elite player but poor halves have been ongoing with him. Pies did as they pleased. Without Bowey and May it would have been much worse.
  3. Off topic but I wouldnt blame Tommo if he left. It's almost as if he's not liked by the fd. Can't buy a game.
  4. Cornes and King bringing up the Jvr incident vis a vis the Maynard act is deliberate distraction and entirely disingenuous. Wankers.
  5. This was predicted to be a close one. Strangely the first half showed otherwise with the Pies much more effective with disposal. We had another slippery night. The second half wasn't close at all either. We dominated and had almost twice the fwd entries. An experienced player down replaced by a very inexperienced kid made a big difference too. I think we have gotten to think of tge sub as a last quarter tool to inject some fresh legs and speed. Not what it was designed for. Bad call Goody We had many more scoring shots and couldn't win. Goal kicking issues arnothing new for us. Happened in KB too.
  6. And giving a fig about players like poor Gus the protection they need from unjustifiable agro acts . Everyone likes a good bump and hard tackle but hitting someone like a Mac truck at a 45 degree angle from above is not somthing I want to pay to watch. Unless it's on Maynard. No revenge motive here Layzie . It's Maynard's claims of feeling really bad but saying he didn't mean it that wind me up. I actually think he didn't mean it. He didn't want to knock Gus out. But he certainly wanted to make contact and admit it. (Dirty and dishonest). And that bad choice had serious consequences. And those consequences must lead to Maynard accepting the penalty. You stuffed up mate be a man and own it. Unless of course your not sorry.
  7. And height. The angle of incidence couldn't have been more deadly. It could have been neck breaking. Glad Gus seems OK but you never know with these things. I guess that why the Afl has been so aggressive on these acts this year. But tge cynic in me wonders if it's more the legal action. Money moves. I do wonder if it cost us the game too bit Gus's health is more important. With his concussion issues he's a brave player and deserves some justice and consistency and clear boundaries in the rules.
  8. If I had a duty of care to protect myself, I would have sued myself into bankruptcy. Geez following this club is a clear departure from any such obligation.😄
  9. Nibbler was good. Not fantastic but one of the few who applied enormous pressure throughout the whole game.
  10. Well said. Yes tge commentators couldn't defend him fast enough. They knew he was guilty. From a purely neutral perspective one can argue we don't know what Maynard's intent was. OK but we we have a bloke stretchered off ...end of story. Maynard was was simply too high and fast and direct to know some impact would occur. How could it not. It's physics. Newton's rule of motion.
  11. Spot on. I was watching some old vfl, afl and afl reserves vids on YouTube during the week and and shocked by what was allowed in the past. I had almost forgotten. It's sad in some ways but positive in others. There are some shocking head injuries around today because of poor protection. I get it's a fine line too so I don't really know what to think. As someone who is related to a young woman who plays Aflw I want her to be protected at all times. I worry as she as already had a few concussions. The videos from 30 years ago seem eons away in terms of what was allowed. The transgressions are even worse. Off topic I watched a reserves player push an umpire over and then go after some poor bloke in the crowd. I was both entertained and appalled. Like the proverbial car crash I couldn't look away. I do think Maynard wanted to make some contact and while he probably didn't intend that much it left a young man with a concussion history totally knocked out. Plus probably cost us the game with Laurie taking his place. Edit. Found it. Coincidence it was a pies player John Bourke.
  12. We lack depth. No doubt about it. So many players that have been lacklustre this year and haven't been dropped because there is nobody to replace them with. I hate to say it but with our aging list we are on the verge of a semi rebuild. It's been a strange season too. Lots of key players injured. Fritta. Petty. Gawn. Oliver. Salo. We haven't seemed to gel. Kozzie didn't deliver. Went backwards after his suspension. Oliver 12 weeks for a hammy. Even Trac has been off the boil tge last 5 rounds. Too many away games in the fixture including Kardinia, Tassie and the Nt game. The Nt is short sighted. Wins are more important. We need to make some tough calls now. Bbb and Tmac and Grundy need to go. We will probably make finals again next year but like the dogs drift away. I thought tgh 21 list would see maybe even three flags but I think it's going to be another drought. Would have been so nice to not kick so incredibly bad at goal last night and be in a pf. Imagine winning a granny at the G after almost six decades. We blew it big time. Losing Gus and having an inexperienced kid play in his place was a disaster. What a huge coaching error. What was Goody thinking? Wth. Sadly we didn't show any revenge for Gus except for Viney. Most teams would have flown the flag and all run at Maynard. Then roughed them all up at every turn. Why did we not seem to care? Not a good sign. Even with all our injuries this year we almost made it. Our inept kicking at goal has not been fixed. In fact it looks like it's getting worse. But I think that's our campaign over now. And it gets harder each season as the list ages. It's a cruel mistress footy. At least we can clear the fwd line out.
  13. Maynard was always going to collect Gus . He made a beeline towards him and then jumped. How could he have missed him? As such there was always intent to make contact. Maynard had a rush of blood that may have caused more damage than he thought. Or rather I don't think he didn't think outside of the adrenaline of hitting an opponent. But he certainly made every effort to come into contact with Gus.
  14. Yes which makes last night so devastating. I don't really think it matters though because with our fwd line and Jvr and Gus out I'm not sure we can beat Carlton. I so hope we do. Four finals losses is heart breaking. And for the same reason as last year. Our fwd line. Theres dumb luck involved with injuries which has been the case but also some poor planning via recruitment. Can the Einstein who thought Grundy was a fwd show themselves out. Did they know he can't mark?
  15. Let's at least beat Carlton and bow out honourably in an interstate final. Losing four finals in a row would be made twice as bad by losing to Carlton. Out. Poor selection. Hey Goody let's pick a young sub who has played 3 or 5 average games and then has to play a whole final. Yep subs aren't just fresh legs in the last for what it's worth. Someone for Jvr who will be suspended. Second brain freeze. Needs to work on this. Someone fir Tmac who needs to be delisted. Maybe Tommo. Maybe even Schache but the cupboard is bare. Possibly Grundy if we can pry him away from rival club meetings. Maybe he plays well just to spite us. As such Tmac will stay but it goes against the grain. Turner for Salo. Spargo for Chandler. I wish we had more depth so we could drop another four. In...a kick in the pants to the whole midfield group so they play a complete game for once. Oh yea some goal kicking practice. And a lot of luck. Sorry for the bitterness but that loss really hurt . Except for May and Max we had no real senior leaders. Lever tried to rev them up but let us down by his own average game. Ironically young Bowey showed players much more experienced how to play a full game of footy.
  16. He had one aim in mind before he left the ground... to hit a Melbourne player. Now he probably didn't intend to almost kill poor Gus but it's a moot point. The height and speed and direction clearly could have done nothing but collect Gus and players have a duty of care. Nothwitstanding... The facts of this case are as follows your honour. Defendant launched himself at great speed and height towards the victim. The defendant turned mid air and then put his shoulder and entire momentum and weight into victim's head. Victim was knocked out cold. The defendant argues he didn't mean to but the facts remain unchanged. Guilty.
  17. Backlines may keep you in a game or season for a while. But forward lines win flags. Always was. Will always be.
  18. Why do we all feel something fishy is going on? Because it's the Afl and there usually us. I hope they do right by a bloke who has really had concussion issues. It's the right thing to suspend. If they don't it's open season.
  19. I'd hate to see hin clean someone up intentionally. That vision shows a clear delineation into poor Gus's head from a significant hight at considerable speed. That's some damning vision. Couldn't have made more contact. Give me a break. He jumped before Gus even kicked. There was intent for sure just a question of how much. He knew contact would be made before he jumped. He just used the smother as a guise. He came out hard in the first few minutes of the game and hopefully will get the month he deserves. Suck it up Maynard but you wanted to hurt someone and you did. Big time. Now it's your turn. Wear it like a man. Gus did.
  20. https://wwos.nine.com.au/afl/finals-2023-melbourne-demons-angus-brayshaw-concussed-collingwood-magpies-brayden-maynard-clash/29d57409-a2ce-41f9-b82e-7a3ffb8ab77c Hard to read this...how shattered he is but then talks about how innocent he is. Maybe taken out of context but all the pundits defending him too gives me the s12ts. So any one can smother by launching themselves 4ft in the air at breakneck speed ( lucky it wasnt) at a player with their arms in tge air and land by completely taking off the head of an opponent. Even with tge benefit of doubt how can this act not be negligent. How could one not think it may be dangerous? If the afl is one percent fair dinkum about head injuries he will get a minimum of 3 weeks. No ifs and or bits. And Richo can go and GS.
  21. Not responding to what happened to Gus is the most embarrassing and annoying thing about this club. We should have crunched them at every turn. Laid twice as many tackles. And I mean tackles that rattle and leave a reminder.. I'm sorry but it was a soulless game after that.where we didn't stick up for our mate. We were bullied and didn't fight back.
