And this happens how often. In most games unless the opposition midfield is asleep. Biggest problem at the club.

It’s so hard to watch and happens so often.... and hasn’t changed for a few years now. It probably won’t until we address that midfield balance as it’s ingrained in our current crop of mids, especially under pressure.

  2. Same old same old when it comes to a loss unfortunately:

G.Lyon - excruciatingly barracking I mean commenting, rate him highly, very highly actually but feel his frustration while commentating MFC games, makes it harder to watch.

overuse of handball around centre clearance work. Costly turnovers.

    lack of forward pressure.

lack of team defense/ work rate / pressure.

major convo around MFC, need more balance / different types in the midfield, glaringly obvious this afternoon when you see bulldogs mix, we won’t be a complete team till this happens

    Viney, May our best.

We've done the Goody discussion to death. Don't think there's much doubt he'll see out the year and probably more likely than not to be there next year. So thought it might be time to discuss the current assistants and potential targets for next year. A football department review will no doubt be starting soon, and the assistant coaches will be seen as the main area we can improve and afford to change.

    This is just opinion.

Alan Richardson - Safe. Contract and experience will keep him there.

Troy Chaplin - Probably safe. Backline has been a strength this year despite the chaos around it. Only thing might be his relationship with Mahoney given Mahoney is a high chance to not be at the club next year.

Justin Plapp - Gone. Have always liked him, but can't defend how poor our midfield has been both in skills and connection.

Ben Mathews - Probably gone. Highly rated in AFL circles, but feel like if we don't lift in his areas then he'll be moved on or he may just feel it's time for a change.

Matthew Egan - Gone. Couple of his mates in McCartney and Jennings gone, players either not developing or going backwards.

Max Rooke - Gone. Was told he was gone last year but somehow survived. Almost identical to Egan in his KPIs surely not being met and his mates now mostly gone.

Sam Radford - No idea tbh. Probably safe purely from the Casey connection.

    (Have I missed anyone?)

That would leave us with a lot of holes to fill. So who do we realistically go for?

Average list of assistants, wouldn’t miss any of them.
Another win for Saints today, wonder what Richo has learnt from that situation??

@dazzledavey36 - it's not a long bow to draw when you look at the long term contracts they received and how they have played since then.  While there are bigger issues than this, it's worth looking at.

When you consider our centre square set up, and the players who run through there, we have low skilled players.  That's not news to anyone here.  Petracca can be good at times, but he, Viney, Oliver, Gus, Harmes etc are all average users of the footy at best.

So what do we do?  The three we generally go with are Viney, Oliver and Trac.  Does that need to change?  Chucking Gus or Harmes in there isn't going to make much of a difference, so do we look to offload one of them to help us get a different type of mid that we can run through there.

We could look to experiment, but guys most of our mids can't really play in other possies.  I'd love to see us try and centre square set up of, say, Trac, Melksham and Salem to see how it goes, but I don't know if we will really get the opportunity to do so.

Either way, those contracts aren't looking flash at present.

That’s a good summary, we have been screaming out for outside run and all we’ve done is bring in KK (bad decision), Langdon , Tomlinson ?

Sparrow, Jones, Brayshaw, Harmes, Oliver, Viney, Trac all to similar...

Got the impression in the post-game on Sunday that the boys remembered what happened last year against Port, so I'm excited to see all of May, Viney, Hannan, Kozzy and Sparrow in the team to bring some physical intensity.

Watching their first game players laugh in our face as they were pulling us to shreds, especially Gawn was hard to watch, hopefully payback this week.

  6. What’s his best position, he’s played half back, wing, half forward and now this yr is playing deep forward...

Bailey had a great end to last season and a great pre season, form so far this yr has been ok.
Still has improvement and upside in his game ?

  7. 3 players underperforming this season thus far:

    Harmes

    Brayshaw

    Salem

For the MFC to become a good side we need these players to lift on a consistent basis, they have proven they can play to a high level, though 2020 they have disappointed.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that.
Goodwin gave him a special gee up at 3 qtr time but he didn’t respond at all.

Harmes is having an ordinary season and there wouldn’t be one game this year where he’s been in our best 6-8.

Like Brayshaw, he’s probably struggling with a clearly defined position on the ground.

Agree 100% with this, Harmes is the most disappointing performer thus far this season IMO, him and Brayshaw playing second fiddle to Trac, Oliver & Viney and not getting the job done.

He can mark, he's quick, would provide another option for our midfield and would free up Fritsch, Weideman and all the other forwards immensely.

He may be quick at training but he is unproven at AFL level and has slow game sense / awareness.
His career to date has been underwhelming.

Out: T. McDonald (injured), Melksham (should have happened after Carlton game)

    In: Smith (forward), Jones

Why would you play Smith forward?

Can someone please explain to me the fascination with this bloke?
