Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
Copuchas replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, Murray's already on the job! It may well be that this is a pincer play between Bartlett and McGuire (and the new Lord Mayor Sally Capp who's a Collingwood Board member) to get traction on the sensible outcome which would be to cover over the Richmond - Flinders Street rail corridor. -
Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
Copuchas replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't shoot the messenger guys, but as East Melbourne resident that lives a couple of hundred metres from the proposed development, I think this is going to be VERY difficult to get up, most particularly the office component which would place a 6 story barrier between East Melbourne and Yarra Park. The oval may be more doable but even then, the residents have been campaigning for years that Yarra Park is just that....a park. Not a car park, not a sporting field. Furthermore, the civil works required to incorporate a level oval on what is a quite pronounced sloping piece of parkland would completely change the nature of the area. I'll be very surprised if this gets traction. -
Two points: 1) I'm not a Pedo lover or hater but I'm a little over Match Committees not understanding that the probability of a player who's been concussed playing a good game the following week is something less than 20%. Set ourselves up for failure right there. 2) Let's not overdo the need for outside pace. Goodwin correctly stated in his presser that the biggest determinant of outside pace is winning the ball on the inside. We failed to do that yesterday. Sure, a classy outside mid would be a good addition. However, the Dees have looked well and truly pacy when we were on the winning streak (and smashing it in terms of contested footy).

Not a bye in the VFL.....
-
I'm still hopeful of a top 4 finish and am hoping the Swans, GWS, North, Port and Pies all get up as well as the Lions, Blues and Saints! Go all the underdogs, Suns excepted!
-
Thought you posted that to highlight that rare AFL commodity of a Newnes tackle ?
-
Werridee, the case for playing Viney in the VFL is that: 1) unlike TMac he hasn't done a full pre season 2) he's a mid fielder so any restriction on game time has an impact elsewhere; 3) if game time is to be restricted the VFL with 23 players a side is the better place to do it; 4) it avoids an interstate trip and the added complexities of a potentially warm and humid day in Brisbane that could possibly increase the fatigue levels and thus propensity for soft tissue injuries; 5) it allows the club to make just the one change to a winning side (assuming Salem gets up). Not many valid reasons at all really.......

For anyone who saw the footage at the end of the Saints game showing Gus' unbridled joy as he revelled in the accolades from several team mates, it's clear he's not going anywhere. Of course he wants to consolidate his spot and form before getting down to the nitty gritty on the contract. Yawn.....

Roof will be closed, no late changes either side

For the Tmac non believers, in case there's still a few of you lurking out there: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-02/big-macs-back-stats-highlight-demons-mcdonald-flexibility#/

I went back and had a closer look at the Richmond game - we fared particularly poorly during the two periods of the game where we were up and about (1st and 3rd quarters). Williamson (22) was the main culprit as I'd anticipated ahead of the game. The exact same umpires were in charge at the weekend and it was Williamson who paid the Gawn front on tackle that resulted in his second goal....but only after an initial hesitation. I really wonder if things were said during the week to Hayden Kennedy by the club, so stark was the turnaround. Anyway, happy to be on the right side of the ledger for a change.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 6

Williamson is the worry IMHO. Let's hope they aren't a factor. Just want to see a competitive effort tonight and in all likelihood we win if we bring that. Dees by 26. Yep. They didn't destroy that part of my forecast. Watching it again yesterday, we were royally screwed with a plethora of non holding the ball decisions in the 1st and 3rd quarters. The farcical report of Vince says it all in terms of the in-built bias. I know we have many issues right now as a club but this shouldn't be ignored either. -

r u talking MCC or MFC? All MCC visitor tickets (GA and reserved seating) have gone. Your MFC membership will still get you in I would think and would be good for standing room at a minimum.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 1
Copuchas replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
That 22 would be my preference but did notice at training that Maynard hand slapped the whole group about half way through training, so perhaps he's in? I thought Oliver might be a late withdrawal but Goody's form when he says that someone will play is beyond reproach. Hannan or Harmes maybe? -
How many more lessons in this "renewal and improvement" space need to be learned? Arnotts with their Shapes flavours, BIG M with their chocolate flavour, Coca Cola (repeat offenders), the bloody MCC with the MCG siren (the digital wizardry could never replicate the sound and it's now been lost to the annals of history) and so the list goes on. The new song is not the same. And it's inferior. DeeSpencer nailed it. Reflective of an obsession with tinkering. Symptomatic of an organisation with a bloated management team, out of control egos and an out of touch CEO who doesn't understand the fundamentals of the business. Lived through it at BHP. Please email the club if you're aggrieved as I am.

It's a park....not a car park, let alone a development site! Like CBDees I live in East Melbourne so I have a particular perspective. But the City of Melbourne / MCC need look no further than South Yarra and what Stonnington is doing with the car park outside Coles and Woolworths for some inspiration - it's just about where you dig and the obvious but expensive answer is underneath the rail corridor. As for the policy itself, I'm not yet clear on the correlation between the ability for terrorists to detonate a device in Yarra Park for a "blockbuster"....however that's defined versus a 30,000 crowd game!

In: N.Jetta, J.Garlett, D.Tyson, S.FrostOut: J.Lewis (Injured), A.Neal-Bullen (rested) Kent, Spargo, Keilty and JKH are emergencies. Viney / Lewis and ANB are notable absentees. Seems to be a very straight bat approach in the lead-up to round 1. Wagner and Stretch being given every opportunity to grab a spot.
-
Groin or quad?
-
We elected to only play 24 in JLT1 (instead of 26). JLT2 is 24, so no squad reduction. Seemingly ANB and Lewis out (and probably Harmes) with Tyson, Viney, Jetta, Garlett potentially coming in and Frost / Balic / JKH / J Smith potentials. I don't think they need to play Jetta or Garlett and they probably won't risk Viney.
-
Nope. From the AFL website: Squads of 30 have been released with four to be cut before game time. Stringer is the only one of that trio to be named on the bench. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-02-22/jlt-week-one-squads-star-recruits-unleashed
