Forget the senior guys, they're going to be retiring soon anyway. These are the players that we need to make a decision on whether to keep them for the long term or not: Bartram Martin Bell Bate P.Johnson Jamar Miller Petterd Dunn Newton Wheatley Buckley Valenti Zomer Hughes Meesen I'm sure I've missed a couple

He had some terrible turnovers that cost us goals. It was worse too because most of them was when he was in the clear. Right now our defenders are bound to get alot of touches because A.The ball is down there for the majority of the game and B. Our game plan is to chip it around in the back half untill we create a loose player. The number of possessions Melbourne players get this year is mostly irrelevant and should not be used to argue that one of our kids should get a nomination. Naitanui deservers this week because he basically won the game for the Eagles last night, he won the ball through pure determination on several occasions and kicked goals in abysmal conditions when no one else could.

Drafting athletes and trying to make them footballers has shown to generally not work, sure there's going to be exceptions but modern footy requires excellent kicking skills. Hawthorn, Geelong and the Saints have already realised this. My issue is that Martin is playing at the highest level, and has been for a couple of years (and he's been playing for more than 3 years, don't [censored] on my back and tell me it's raining), how could the club draft a player who is so obviously such a poor kick? Sadly our list is full of these 'project' type players who either have terrible skills or has no feel for the game. We're the dumbest football team going around and it goes along way to explaining why we're so crap.

Actually it's a view that's held by many on this site, if you go back tot he draft and look at the robust debates that went on it was mentioned many times. I'm not going to bother to mention who, it's not the point. It's the same situation with Masten and Morton.

I agree JJJ, although I don't like our chances. Last year we were incredibly lucky to have Jurrah fall into our lap via the psd, hopefully something similiar will happen this year. My preference this year is to keep our first two picks and get the best two kids available, we still need to focus on the future.

Anyone who thinks that Naitanui is a dud is a dead set fool, the kid is going to be a bloddy great player.
-
Naitanui has been great in the last quarter, 2 goals, woohoo!
-
I really hope he's injured because at the moment he is a liability. I still believe in him, although it's wavering, but please let him be injured and there to be an excuse for his performances.
-
Sorry Don, I don't want to shoot you down but to me he looked terrible up forward, especially when he was kicking for goal. His passing and general field kicking is really poor but ffs can't we have a forward who can kick goals?
-
I reckon I'd probably get banned for life from demonland if I was to have a crack at it tonight, so I'll pass. Good luck to anyone who tries!! Eidt: On a brighter note the Eagles just hit the front early in the last quarter

Our midfield is ok however there is no depth there and our rotations kill us. People say that it's our senior players who are letting us down but I think if you look at the 23 and onwards group we compare very poorly to all of the other teams.
-
He'll never be a good footballer untill he learns how to kick, or more precisely, pass.
-
If Rich was playing for Melbourne then he'd be our best midfielder this year
-
He's not the only one, Grimes' disposal has been pretty poor as well. Our midfield is also near non-existant.
-
I struggle to think of anyone who is worse than Crawford on tv at the moment, he is absolutely terrible.

Frawley opens up with....a terrible handball and gives away a goal

I have my doubts that Lyon will ever leave the media, why would he? He's on a great income, low stress in comparison to coaching, his job is not under threat like it is with coaches and plus if he ever leaves the media gig he faces the risk of the next generation replacing him and not being able to get back in in the same capacity. If he is smart he'll never coach full time. With Bailey, I still believe that he's the right man for the job now. What I mean by that is that we have a young developing list, and that's his specialty. He's also relatively cheap in comparison to the other higher profile coaches. We were never going to play finals now, we're not in that mode yet. I'd be willing to give him some extra time, I won't start judging him until towards the end of next season.

For those who are still in the KPF camp watch out for Panos, he's starting to put some very good performances in, could challenge Butcher as best KP in the draft. Having said that I'm still leaning to taking two mids. Trengove looks a beauty, I still think it will be between him and Lucas.

Apart from a brief stint when Northey was coach, Melbourne hasn't had any respect for the last 40 odd years. Any ounce of respect we may have had also evaporated with the soft tag during Danihers reign.
-
At least Whelan provides an example to the younger players with his 1%'s. I understand the opinion of dropping him for someone like Cheney, but the team is desperate for older players who are prepared to put their bodies on the line, and Whelan still does that on a weekly basis
-
I dispute Bartram every showing 'flashes of brilliance'. He's been an ok tagger but he's never really demonstrated the ability to hurt the opposition with his disposal or play making skills.
-
I understand what you're saying however whether they should or not is irrelevant, the facts are that Blease may or may not recover from a season ending broken leg, Grimes is finding his feet in the backline and Strauss has yet to play consistent good footy for Casey's firsts. We caanot count on all of these guys making it in tha AFL as midfielders.
-
I was in the KP camp but I've since been well and truly converted to the dark side. At this stage my preference would be either Lucas or Trengove

There was never alot of hype over McLean, in fact there were many raised eyebrows when we took him at pick 5. The majority of the footballing world had Keplar Bradley and Kane Tenance well before him. I remember most Melbourne fans were desperate to get the speedy Tenace... Most had McLean just scraping into the top 10.
