It will be interesting to see how Selwood is remembered outside of Geelong and the media when he retires. He will leave the game as (at least) a 3 X premiership player, 6 X AA inc 3 times as Captain and numerous most courageous player awards etc. However will his name be sullied much like Matthew Lloyds has; 5 X AA, 3 X Coleman medallist, premiership player who sits 7th on the all time AFL/VFL goal kicking list yet ask most footy followers about what they most remember about Lloyd and one of the first couple of adjectives will be ‘diver’. Will Selwood get stuck with ‘ducker’ ?

    Yep.

Lloyd doesn’t trust us as much as he does the teams he put above us.

Like Essendon, who when they aren’t on, play the worst football in the comp. we beat them last year in one of the worst spectacles of the year, and the worst we played in any win ever.

This would make a good thread

i vote for the 2016 game vs Brisbane

Pre-season done, both games won well, no injuries and almost the entire best 22-24 up and running...

    Couldn’t have asked for more.

    Bring on season 2018.

    its gonna be a ripper...

    Couldn’t agree more Paul

Not hearing much noise on the boot camp that wasn’t ?. Maybe it wasn’t such a big deal after all????

There are a few things that have changed since then:

Jesse Hogan is back to full fitness and he has put a horror year behind him.  Even if he doesn't play Round 1, Viney is over his foot issues and he's ready to go.  We've added Jake Lever to our backline, which has allowed us to now fully release Tom McDonald to play as a permanent forward.  Our kids have all got another pre-season under their belt and the pain of Round 23 will spur them on.

They are just a few examples, but while they are the same names on paper, I do believe it will be a different side, both mentally and physically, lining up for us in Round 1.

Also a key change WB is the message sent by Goodwin to the whole list when he dumped Watts - he is emphasising and standing behind standards over talent.

Hopefully this mindset improves our first quarter performances this year, this in particular was a real concern last year.

Yes SBF i dream of such things too, but i do want to win those flags under the rules of Australian Fiotball, rather than some hybrid packaged rubbish that has been dreamed up by an advertising company!!

We can now safely move on from the made up stuff SWYL, alteady throwing darts at that trophy.

How awful that would be. Hope i am either long dead, or at a point where my interest is with other things.

Aussie rules without having to bounce the ball when running, without point posts, an offside rule and limited tackling, removes all the elements that make our game original.

I am so sick of old bastards pulling the rules apart and telling me it’s better.

We should be proud of our game...

    i need to punch a wall. ?

I’m just hoping we’ve won a flag by then SWYL.

Could have won the flag that year if it wasn't for those pesky Crows in the Semi Final.

Best game I've ever been to,  even though we lost.  Travis Johnstone was sublime (for the middle 2 quarters, same as the rest of the team.)

I remember that game vs Port Adelaide - it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and the first time I saw Troy Broadbridge running around. The boys in the outer gave a loud encouraging “BROADY” every time he got a kick. Great win, great day, sad loss.

Little known fact. Casey is further from Melbourne than Canberra. You could drive from Mallacoota to Mildura and it would be quicker than driving to Casey from anywhere.

In guessing you’re writing this in the car on the way home from a VFL finals match last year?

There seemed to be more of the little kids there but less teenagers. Possibly a venue like Luna Park would appeal to them a bit more than the G. The club might look at possibly alternating the venue to cater for that crowd.

Spot on in my case WJ. I couldn’t talk my boy (12) into it once he found out it was at the G. We’ve been to the last 4-5 at Luna Park so he was looking forward to the rides as well.

Kids are a bit spoiled these days. I’d have given my left knacker at his age to have a chat, photo and autograph with the dees players.

  10. The AFL just love tinkering with the rules. I can see the Health and Safety police division getting up in arms and then hey presto they’re all wearing helmets. Might as well give them padding and let them throw the ball as well.

the game has been played for 160 years without helmets, but this won’t count for jack. ([censored], not Watts)

If you have a samsung s7 and a samsung 2017 tv you can just cast the game from your phone to the tv. Just make your playing the video on the afl app before you hit share.

They’ll shut that loophole down now that you’ve announced it. People get paid for doing that!!

I'm curious. Why do you say "he needs to get his head right"? I've always thought his problems were with his body.

I can see two explanations for this:

    1. His thyroid, which has been giving him grief,  is in his neck (close enough)

    2. He got hit on the head with a brick at the boot  camp last yr. maybe there have been side effects?
