The AFL boys are probably already on the Gold Coast. As soon as training finished, quick showers, bags already packed, straight to the airport.

However, despite also playing on Saturday, the VFL boys aren’t flying out until tomorrow.

I was curious as to why they’re not all going together today. So I asked about it and was surprised to hear that it’s to save on the cost of another night’s accommodation for the Casey squad.

Apparently the club’s VFL budget is a separate (and way smaller) one from the AFL budget and it makes me think no wonder the VFL comp is a bit of a joke. Or maybe I don’t understand the workings of such.

I thought it might be like the royal family not flying together in case the plane crashes.

  2. Whilst Bergman would make us a better team, I like the intent of this thread around a KPF, given we seem to win inside 50 count every bloody week but can't win a game.

Having somebody who can clunk a mark and take his 30 seconds (and hopefully kick a goal, god knows we need a few of those) allows our forward line to setup when we inevitably kick a point.

I think we have enough medium sized players across the park to win a game. Just need a big banana up front. Have done for the last 4 years.

Obviously, nobody ever sits down at he start of the year and says "Let's be mediocre", but some sit down a

This is my point. You’ve done a better job than I did of putting it forward.

We have been completely unrealistic about our list and gameplan. So much so that we have a stated aim of finals and for two consecutive seasons and won’t be close to them.

My next question is; who on Demonland legitimately thinks we can be Premiership contenders in 2026? My answer is absolutely no chance.

So, in my opinion, we either build toward the next one now or continue to slowly sink. Does Goodwin figure in that next Premiership? Can we inject enough talent and smarts into the list and footy department to do it while we still have Max? According to our own metrics, we’ve wasted 24 & 25 with Max.

It was 2019 when I finally realised the footy department will always talk up the list/game plan irrespective of what they're actually seeing because they don't want to see the membership numbers drop off. In 2019 it went past hopeful optimism to what I considered to be borderline dishonest. Now you've just got to try to listen for the verbal cues on where we're focussing on improving and tune out the repetition.

  4. If I could climb into a delorean and go back 25 years to convince the MFC brains trust to hold onto the wizard for life on a long term deal, I’d jump at the chance.

Glad I don’t have to this time around

Perhaps it was just me but I thought that the pre-game stuff with ND seemed just a little more poignant than usual.

I was listening to the Dee Radio SEN broadcast with Ox, Nathan Brown and Daniel Ward. Hugely entertaining, really changed my level of enjoyment of the game. Their commentary mirrored the views on here re umpiring.

Nathan was loudly urging the players to win it for the coach at the start of the last qtr, I had the same feeling.

  6. 7 news about to go into the winners rooms.

I’ve never seen inside the umpires rooms before, should be interesting.

I never thought both Fritta and Melksgam would work in the same forward line, but they were both outstanding today. Hats off.

  7. I love the optimism on Demonland but am cautious because it’s an incredibly even comp.

That said, I've tipped against us the last couple of weeks and was happy to keep doing this if it helped our winning streak, but I just can’t bring myself to do it against this mob.

Hope Kos feels the love in Alice and kicks another bag.

  8. Outcome based is complete bs. On that basis, the Hawthorn player who got a week for collecting Viney should still be on the sidelines because HV is still out due to concussion.

It’s just the AFL covering their backsides for the future concussion based class action coming their way rather than administering a fair and just (and consistent) system that looks after the game.

  9. Dees win by nearly 10 goals, and win 5 in 6 games

Demonland: play the backline in the forward line and drop all the pressure/effort players that don’t get 35 and 3.

Don’t mess with a winning formula.

Sixty years ago we would have said “we kicked the sweep”. Does anyone else remember that?

We used to pay our chimney sweeps three carrots and a turnip, but I guess everyone’s different

Trac’s goal from the Salem chip pass just on 50m to the Punt Rd end I think it was, was almost identical to the opening goal of the 2021GF

Completely agree, and I should know - I’ve seen the GF version at least 100 times

  12. I hope the MRP put the Mills bump on Spargs up against the Kossie bump on Bailey Smith a few yrs back when he played for the dogs. Both left the ground, bumped and caught their opponents high. Kossie got 3 wks on the basis his action had the potential to cause serious injury, even though Smith played out the game and played the next week. If the MRP move the goalposts, I’ll lose my [censored].

Lovely sentiments BM. I wish there were more like him in today's media.

Too young ??? I reckon if you make threescore & ten you've done ok.

Not if your scoring is as accurate as the demons.

So when Lever comes in we either put Turner fwd or drop May or T mac. I would imagine the former

Then AJ gets dropped? as we have Petty Turner Melk Frit fwd

You could argue we don’t need 3 talls against Hamling and a resting ruck

That sort of opposition forward line scenario suits Lever, who typically doesn't line up on a key tall so he can better peel off to intercept. May has good agility and speed, so good to line up on a mid sized forward which leaves Hamling with TMac.
