It’s not actually Goodys fault - it’s mine
ive been to the Cats, Tigers, Pies losses. Thought I’d go along to hear the song today.
Left when the Saints went 20 pts up in the last with 4 mind to play, our guys decide then it’s time to try to win it and kick 3 late goals and nearly pinch it.
Ive learned my lesson, won’t be going again this year. I can’t take the umpiring anymore either.

Pretty ordinary effort from the umpires that quarter. I’ve only just calmed down from the umpiring last week. It really is turning me off the game.
We’ve clearly got more class. Hopefully the saints coming back into that quarter is a wake up call for effort.

This thread sounds like the research for an AFL.com.au article

How far are we going to go with these meaningless stats?
Melbourne is 8-0 when more than 10,000 hot dogs are consumed, but 1-4 when under 10,000 are consumed.
I’d argue it’s the other way around Wise.
Jesse looked like he’d eaten 2000 hot dogs on Friday night and couldn’t move.

On a Friday night stage, the AFL should aim to have two high performing teams play, officiated by the best umpires they have to offer. This delivers the highest quality product to the broadcasters/audience to grow the game.
If they are the best umpires the AFL has to offer, I might just stick to the World Cup from hereon in. 9 free kicks to 1 in the last quarter was ridiculous.

This is exactly why the AFL don’t give us Friday night games.
completely unwatchable

I hope we play like we did in the first half against them last year and the second half like we did against Adelaide over there last year. Should silence everyone there except Woohoo guy and @McQueen.
looking forward to pacing around my lounge room all night in what I’m expecting will be a nail biter.

Heh heh heh
The membership team congratulated me on our impending #2 in Oct and I said sadly I may need to avoid (being caught) singing the Grand Old Flag in the depths of the night, in order to avoid marital disharmony, but the membership team indicated they would be willing to help.
Perhaps I should pop for an infant onesie and beanie. All to keep #2 warm of course!
Timbo, my #1 daughter was singing the grand old flag Level 2 in nappies at 18 months (2005 when we actually won a few). You can never start too early!

His timing may be impeccable, as opposed to his dad's (from 1985).
In any case, it's better that, than the alternative - Collingwood. That would be unbearable.
Despite the fact he’s only three, he should be able to grasp the concept that if he wants to support the pies, he can go and live wherever he likes.

Theres a difference between what your head and your heart tell you.
Although toss half a dozen beers into the mix and those messages can get quite confused too.

My boy (typically) lost his membership card on the way home from the QB game.
I wrote to the club to get a replacement, promising he hadn’t cooked it in the microwave. ?
But somebody found it and sent it back to the club, they’re now posting it back to us. Your post plus the kind soul who returned my boy’s card just reinforce my belief that there’s some fair dinkum good people out there still.

If the 4 umpires equates to 2 field umpires and 2 additional goal umpires, then I’m all for it.

I’d give us a B+ for (finally) belting teams that we should. It would have been a B- if not.
I’d have given us a A if we’d had close losses against the better teams, it’s the nature of these losses which is the most concerning, we seem to lack some answers at the moment.

I was thinking no, but you’ve swayed me Red with irrefutable logic.

The flag might have helped those numbers a bit (tigers, anyone?)

I agree with the sentiment that the decision on Pert will have involved a process of his impressing the board with his vision for the club moving forward - how to improve revenues (aligned with club direction on no pokies), higher memberships, his experience on building a state of the art training base (with social facilities).
Having a seasoned professional who's seen it all from the perspective of taking a club from 38,000 members to 75,000 will have more upside than downside.
If, however, he re-introduces Whiteboard Wednesday, I'll spew and firebomb Glen Bartlett's car myself.

i feel sorry for him
his best years, by far, were under roos - and even then he got dropped to the vfl
he has the "distinction" of being dropped by every senior coach he's had now
all the talent in the world, but none of the desire required
Don't forget Andrew that he dropped himself as well. Never seen that before (or likely to again).

I hope he responds in the third person.

This place is unrecognisable with all this optimism.

My 3 word player analysis V StKilda
in Melbourne Demons

I find it interesting that we were actually a better side (defensively, at least) this time last year without Gawn or Hogan.
Our mids has to work harder to win the centre clearances, but we did.
Baffles me that we’ve gone backwards this year with key personnel back in the side.
