  1. In the world of soccer, where they haven't changed the rules in the last 50+ years (apart from introducing offside), the red card rule has stood up without question.

Only the AFL seems to make a complete hash of these things. We'd only be looking at completely blatant (dog) acts where the send off would be called upon. I like the idea that the offending team is one player down as a result of that player's stupidity, it matches the loss of the opposition (if the victim can't come back on).

If we had another Troy Simmons incident in the first 5 mins of a grand final, I'd be spewing.

  2. My first win for the year, most enjoyable (my MFCSS had me thinking that the dees losing was my fault for attending).

Clarry is something else - his kick to Spargo was sublime, a couple of minutes later q1 at CHF he took a high ball in the air and ripped out a hand pass 0.5 seconds later whilst still airborne to create a goal - breathtaking.

Joel Smith did some nice things, it was a shame to see him injured. There were a couple of times JKH needed to go and didn’t, his card is marked in my book. Ball into D50 in the 3rd qtr springs to mind that just hit the deck in between 3 defensive dees. It was Jays to cover.

love Jeffy back in the side, he’s switched on at the moment, unpredictable and looks really dangerous.

And loved Trac’s contested game today, he’s going to be key to the rest of our year.

Its easy to see how we could have won that game by 25 goals, but a satisfying shellacking nonetheless. ?

    Keilty being moved strategically

He’s staying down the scoring end all game, so being a forward with the wind and defending against the wind

    very clever

Sounds more like he’s NOT being moved strategically. Pumped he’s already nailed one and will be looked at as a forward contested marking prospect.

Hoping for a big game from Dec

  4. Put the good teams on in the prime time slots and the crap teams at 6pm on Sunday night and a lot of this would be fixed.

The AFL needs to take accountability for poor Friday night games by firstly gifting Carlton/St Kilda so many games and then, mystifyingly, defending the decision. It really is amateur.

  5. Jarrod wore a Luek the duck emblem and yellow hat on the tour after his last comeback to bring attention/valuable fundraising to the cause.

Given Jarrod is a big dees fan, I’d really like to see the team wear a yellow arm band on the field of dreams round as a show of support.

He's shown a bit but to keep getting a game he needs to stick his tackles.

At the moment he doesn't have the physical strength and/or leg speed of the others you've mentioned above.

Being short he does need other attributes and for mine as a first year player he doesn't have them yet...

    That's ok.

It maybe time to go back to Casey and build up over the preseason.

He also needs to better time his high 5’s with the KPF lining up for goal so he doesn’t look silly ??

  7. I’d like to see Hogan have a rest and Bull take his place this week. Hogan looked really proppy last week. Vanders, welcome back mate. 2 years of diligent rehab, tear them a new one on Sunday. JKH earned his spot, would be nice to see him and Jeffy both kick 4.

Goodwin on whether Oliver or Gawn is having a better season:  "If you ask Max, he would say he is contributing to Clayton's season.  If you ask Clayton, he'd say he's making Max look good."  ?

In all seriousness, we are so blessed to have them both as Demons.  They clearly have huge inate talent, and have worked their butts off to get to this level, and the Club itself deserves a great deal of credit for developing them to become stars of the competition.  Fingers crossed, they will be part of a premiership team sooner rather than later.

  9. Nathan Jones on SEN tonight said that Melksham hammy was a non issue, surprised he’s missing a week and can’t see him missing 2. Said Hibbo was building up his running sessions and Viney was about to start running end of the week or early next week; but didn’t put a time frame on them back to playing.

Very true, going to the footy itself is not half as good as it was before all the 'hoodoo' that exists today. A pie, maybe a hot dog, a thermos, a few beers, the anticipating 'hum' of the expectant crowds - no matter which teams were playing - the civil nature of the community of spectators, emphasising tolerance, a piddle at half-time with polite strangers, a quick smoke or two, no razzle, dazzle or imposed focus on irrelevant 'crowd entertainment', and better umpiring. The only real benefit of 'being there' is receiving a live view of your team in order to assess, speculate, understand, interpret and respect their efforts. Hey, you could even get a return train fare, ground entrance and a seat, the mandatory football nutrition and liquid refreshments, a Footy Record and a bag of hot jam doughnuts after the game for the walk to Richmond Station amongst friends - all for less than $25! Take us back, Gil because secretly, we are still all living the dream.

Was Richmond Station even invented before a single jam donut cost $25 at the footy?

The problem with the game is clearly the ball. Everyone wants to get it. That causes congestion. When it goes over the fence, we waste time getting it back, slowing the game down considerably. When it gets grubby, the umpire has to wipe it on the ground to clean it.

The players chase it all over the place causing unsightly groups of players running around, detracting from the spectacle of the game.

If there were no ball in the game, there'd be a much faster, free flowing game, very little congestion, far fewer free kicks to adjudicate and it would bring spectators, disheartened by the direction the game is going, back to the game.

As an added bonus, it would stop Collingwood cheer squad members stealing the ball.

Instead of using a ball, to score, players could just run up and down the ground touching the goal post to score a goal. Whichever team can do that the most in a certain period of time, wins the game.

Why didn't someone come up with this idea sooner? I see no flaws in it.

And the AFL could spend mega bucks rebranding the game as “Foot” (or even footy, as neither reference the ball)

I'm an SA based Dees fan, and I couldn't bring myself to go this weekend. Not because I couldn't get tickets but because of a few things.

    1. Struggling to walk on what may be a broken foot after kicking most things within reach last Saturday night.

    2. Crows supporters are complete nupties who know absolutely nothing about football.

    3. If we go down again like last week, I don't want to be responsible for another fight in the crowd.

    4. See 2.
