I would be demonstrative if I had double led, ran 75 metres and lost my opponent, for the ball delivered to my feet or over my head, an example of when he sooked?

Probably the biggest that comes to mind is the 2017 round 23 match v Collingwood with him spitting the dummy at umpires and shouting at team mates. But i do notice his face looking quite furious with the ball delivery. It's no big sin, but i just don't see a player that rallies and inspires players to shift the momentum of a match. Just looks like a blamer to me. It's purely anecdotal though. Maybe others see him as a leader that demands excellence.

Some of the rubbish being written two games in after playing finals last year astounds me, Tommy Mc is one of the more team orientated players in the squad......he sooks, an example is?

Off field he's a picture of equanimity and solid intellect, On-field he's demonstrative to team mates and sooky when it's no delivered on a plate. Hey, it works for Selwood so maybe it's fine. I'm just pointing out one of the issues i've found with him over the past few years.

Jamie Elliot ?? 26 years old and a restricted (?) free agent

    From the official Collingwood site...

"A small forward with incredible strength and speed, Elliott marks unbelievably well for his size. His style of play has seen comparisons drawn with Paul Medhurst and Stephen Milne, but it is through his tackling and defensive work in attack that he has impressed his coaches "

This is an interesting one given how he has so far played in the last 2 weeks. He signed for 1 year in October last year. I wonder how much the Pies have budgeted in the cap for him under the presumption that he'll recapture his best form. I would assume they probably haven't budgeted what others would be prepared to pay if he has a big year.

I still think he'll probably injure himself at some point this year however, or next year if we actually signed him on a decent contract

gonna be difficult from the stands seeing as he's yet more weeks out injured...

the real dangers in their forward line are orazio fantasia (0.4 against the aints) and jake stringer (1 goal 2) - my biggest concern is that our ideal match-ups for them - jetta and hibberd - are in atrocious form

if mitch brown (frost) or shaun mckernan (o mac) get a hold of us we are in big, big trouble

    IN: stretch, c wagner, keilty
    OUT:  may, anb, sparrow

    B: Jetta - Frost - Hibberd
    HB: Salem - O Mac - Kolodjashnij
    ? Jones - Brayshaw - Viney
    HF: Fritsch - T Mac - Hunt
    F: Keilty - Weideman - Melksham
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Harmes
    I/c: Petracca - Stretch - C Wagner - Keilty
    Emerg: Spargo - Preuss - Neal-Bullen - Petty

unavailable thru injury: may, lewis, lever, hannan, vandenberg, kennedy harris, garlett, j smith

I'm curious, who is our intercept defender with no Lever? Last year we needed Fritsch there and then Gawn dropping back.

Raised on today’s real footy podcast

Just heard it on Sam McLures 'Just Between Us' too. "Eyebrows raised internally" at the asking price of 700k.

Who knows what's real or parroted from the original rumour.

  6. Spargo had no standout VFL games pre selection and adapted to AFL standard immediately. Why would we expect any different from an outside mid/wing who's not going to be near the ball enough to command selection with a standout BOG.

Throw em in the deep end (if fit) and see how they swim.

  7. Sunday Footy Show had a great segment with about 6 or 7 instances where our players either burnt each other or didn't even look for the handball or switch kick to a teammate with space to run into the 50 and just bombed it long. Followed with a segment on Petracca looking unfit and needing to lose a few kilo's. We all know it, just good to see a public blowtorch on our poor entries and some of the efforts. Hopefully will wake some of the players up.

IF GWS disappoint again in 2019,  watch the Hume H/Way gates open up.

.I like the look of Harry Himmelberg. Could be a gun. 1.94cm 23 year old out of contract, behind Cameron and Patton in the pecking order. Gets plenty of the ball, kicked 29 in 3rd year last year, first full season though. Good footy brain and takes a strong mark, a little like young McGovern. Shouldn't be too expensive to trade for.

That's it, entirely strip away the hard work and effort the players put in to get themselves into a Prelim.  It wasn't them, it was completely down to everything else going our way, from getting teams already in the eight to somehow luckily getting a free kick or have a team miss a few shots.

What a joke of a post.

We hadn't beaten a top 8 team until round 22. How do you explain that? Or is it filed neatly away in the denial drawer?

It all fell apart in the Prelim, and it looks exactly the same tonight.

What was achieved over summer? Denial

Goodwin is under serious pressure now

We barely managed to put it together in the first place, i've been saying it all off-season, we were lucky to beat Hawthorn as they missed so many shots on goal that night with Clarko possession footy controlling us until we kicked away. And we were lucky to get WCE and GWS who were already cemented in the 8 in r22/23. Until then we hadn't beaten a top 8 team.

We all had a big laugh at the Selwood/Harmes infringement on the boundary, but why? Not because we were up by 10 goals but because Hawkins had a shot on goal reversed with the momentum swinging their way. Rose colored glasses about that final month last year. We've always had this massive issue of bombing it mindlessly into the forward 50.

I don't think it is zone defence that makes the difference.  Richmond broke down in the middle and forward.

The difference is the underlying game plan:  'chaos vs control' football.

Like Richmond we play 'chaos' style whereas Collingwood more and more play 'control' style like WCE and Hawks.  They amass huge uncontested possessions and marks and can control the tempo.  Very difficult for 'chaos' style to stop that when they are marking and the ball doesn't come to ground for a contest.

The latter requires a team with very good foot skills and to be very disciplined.  We don't have the foot skills to play 'control' football.  And tbh I'm not sure we have the on-field footy nous to implement it.

So I should book a round the world holiday, settle down in a kibutz after meeting a girl, have kid/s and come back in 3-4 years when we have the nous?

Though premature it appears once again teams like pies & hawks will prob win flag before we do..  fed up seeing my mates celebrate their flags!

Haw v Coll Sounds like an odd pairing, i'm guessing they haven't ever played against each other in a grand final in vfl/afl history before.

In terms of a long term plan Lever is much better as a 3rd tall and combined with big body midfielders we can finally counter Westhoff, but it's a matter of finding that 2nd genuine stopping key defender.

This is an interesting conversation especially in the context of our own forward line not currently playing a third tall and stretching defenses.

Not quite true Wise. You've recently  hypothesized him coming back to us because 'he loves the club'. I'd wager that you would be in the top three count for posters in this thread. Sounds like a Hogan man-crush to me!

Which vpn? Seems like its a good one, or maybe that's just Finland internet? ?

Bring him straight in for Weid.

Or why not have both? 3 marking targets + small forward & flanks. Geelongs defence is their biggest asset, we'll need players who can take marks or bring it to ground inside 50. I know we have to stem the flow of outside run from defence, but that really should be covered by having rabidly defensive small forwards and a midfielder or two.

    I thought we look meek.

We were brutal in our finals against Geelong and Hawthorn, and without too much outside run we simply have to win it in this area but we’re shown up by Boak and Rockliff and the harassment of Gawn.

Im still perplexed at Vineys performance, fair enough he was short of a gallop, but his intensity was really poor.

We would've retreated to meekness had Hawthorn actually taken their opportunities in front of goal. I think a lot of sugar coating has occurred with the finals series. Clarko's system predictably smothered our effectiveness for most of the night, and their spread and skill cut through our zone. But we were let off the hook and our physicality wore them down after their offensive efforts left them deflated and ripe to be overrun by our momentum.

well it certainly has been a dramatic fall from grace for the Weed .Last week he was a better key forward then Jesse and this week it is off to the VFL.Still seems our best bet at FF but dont expect another Hogan.

Considering he was in the VFL up until round 21 or so last year, it's probably wise and healthy from a list perspective that we haven't automatically booked him in to play every week, but are looking at that position as interchangeable with some other players, form permitting. Having said that, there's no way i'd be dropping him after just one match.
