  1. Well given our track record of targeting and luring players over like Lever, May and Langdon, then I personally think/guess that he both wants to come home, and wants to only join the Dees. Probably because of how we've approached him and told him how we want to use him next year, and he's sold. I also don't think he would be so desperate to go home that he'd want to go to any victorian club, but it's all just guessing at this stage. Given this came out of Callum Twomey's mouth and he said so causally and emphatically that it's us who's after him, I think means he's been on the phone and has spoken to his contacts. He's a reputable person in a media landscape devoid of it. Smoke/Fire
  2. Fair enough. Although wasn't he a restricted free agent ? Had something to do with Adelaide wanting something better than Pick 15 compo but also Geelong not giving away too much, given he could be had for free a year later. Can't think of another comparable trade. I do echo your sentiments about wanting something back but maybe we're all guessing about Port and his relationship. Maybe Houston doesn't mind waiting a year or two to move, so they'll hold out for a good deal. I'm forgetting but wasn't it an Essendon player that got held to the contract and traded a year later? Daniher? Edit: Josh Dunkley! He was held to "ransom" and the club and player didn't seem to care. And got on with business for a year until the next trade period.
  3. If I was to defend Twomey or Landburger, it would be that their podcast is so short and time limited that they're not going to get into the intricacies of pick and player swaps going both ways to make it more amenable to both parties. He's going to give a ballpark amount based on his value. So of course we shouldn't do that trade UNLESS something mouth watering is coming back either a player or their first round pick if they make a prelim which I think they the might be willing to give up eg Pick7+F1+F2 for Houston+Pick 15*
  4. I still maintain to this day that he was kindly trying to remove a bit of fluff under Brayshaws chin
  5. It's admirable that you're arguing for us to give up the bare minimum and get back more. You really have the Dees best wishes in your heart. Unfortunately that's not how it works. We don't have the upper hand at all. Port will just keep him if they don't get a high value. Why would Port give away their AA half back for a kid who's not even in the top 10 of players in this or next years draft? Would you do that trade last year for a 27 year old Jake Lever? Or just keep him? IF we split our first rounder and only offer a late pick in the teens, then it's not us who will be improving our other picks as you mentioned, but them. And dramatically. As for the talk of two firsts. It was Callum Twomey on gettable that first mentioned it. He's far more reputable than one of SEN's talkback hosts. Although I think He just rates Houston that highly and doesn't have any knowledge on any dealings between clubs. Edit: Got him confused with Sam Edmund lol.
  6. Schache to backie? Wacky
  7. If the AFL creates a new rule that WINS in Rounds 22-24 count as 4 points for the following year for teams outside of the finals as a sort of handicap on the finals teams , does that mean we can play Jeffo? It's technically a 2025 game then!
  8. Although they did bring in a high fend off rule to stop him from disadvantaging his opponent
  9. I remember when everybody thought Tassie was a bad idea and not financially viable because it was too small. It still might be, but thats become an unpopular opinion now. Things change opinions change. If it happens it happens. We'll either see the "wildcard weekend" winners getting thumped because they didn't have a bye. Or maybe we'll get better semi finals in week 3 as a result of 5+6 getting a rest and mildly easier elimination final in week 2. Currently we have a top 4 and 4 "wildcards" making up a top 8. This is just creating a top 6 with 4 wildcards. Maybe it's just placing a higher value on 5th and 6th positions? Who knows And the earth keeps spinning.
  10. This Year? Dan... "Houston, We have a Problem" Trade Board 🚀 @Demonland
  11. Hey guys move this to The Farewell To Fritta Thread joking
  12. I was afraid he'd retire to coach a tennis player
  13. Finally they caught him and got his signature
  14. Is Goodwin the right MAN?
  15. Roost meant Justin Leppitsch. And I concur. Great tactical mind on SEN a few years ago, down to earth and approachable, but still looks like he doesn't take [censored]. Head coaching experience which he would have learnt a hell of a lot from like Voss. Went over and was instrumental in the Pies premiership alongside McCrae. Although how could we pry him away from the Pies? It would have to be a big contract offer with the mind that his tactical approach is going to be a key reason for us contending next year ie a senior assistant who's either going to be successful at it, or take over as head coach if the club isn't next year. Oh and he should also take a key role in selecting/bringing over some line coaches. That might be the way we can get him over.
  16. You're naive if you think it's only a rumour. Cal Twomey is right about almost everything, speaks to all recruiters and managers, and knows what he's talking about when he mentions draftees and players pick value. Smoke/Fire
  17. Nope. Dan Houston is currently the 4th ranked player in the entire comp by Champion Data and probably about to get a 2nd AA gong in a row. He's an absolute gun that will make us a far better team for the next 3 or 4 seasons while our aging superstars push for a 2nd flag. Blake Howes might become a serviceable defender that holds down a position in defence, but he's not going to be leading the competition in anything. Port will demand a high price because he's contracted for 3 years and can tell us to gagf. I suspect we're just going to have to do the deal of two firsts while trying to get Ports pick 14-18 in return somehow . Or as DeeSpencer said, Split Pick 7 into two mid teens picks and give them one AND next years first and get a 2nd or whatever back. They have the upper hand unfortunately. If the club have identified him in filling a hole and helping other players also play in their ideal position, and he wants to come to us, then thats half the battle over. We will get it done with no fuss
  18. Much prefer Leppitsch. And comes with decades of experience
  19. Watching Freo and Essendon, we need a lot more speed.
  20. Port won't let him go without getting that pick 7* imo. Why would they ? I supposed the consolation is that we get an AA calibre player, who according to CD is the 4th best ranked player in the game as of round 20. An Immediate impact right now while our players are in the (age) window will probably be more valuable than pick 7* and Pick 15-18 in the long run, if we do contend next year. It's all so obvious really that it feels silly saying it. But of course who really knows what that pick 7* kid will be so its always a gamble.
  21. Although If the Pies win, it would be funny to see the Swans only two points inside the top 4. This season producing Maximum chaos.
  22. Carlton & Collingwood both missing the 8 is the dream scenario. Step in the right direction tonight Landers. Let's get something out of this season!
  23. Geelong beat Collingwood by 96 points 2011 round 23, safe to say thats probably the biggest. (Or maybe not?)
