The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Mach5 replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
The question I have to ask is: why is there suddenly such a high concentration of high quality kids coming out of this area? Yes, prospects have always come from the area, and some really high end ones too... but why so many all of a sudden? Is the quality of these players being overexaggerated by those locked out? Is GWS really putting the effort in and developing these players better than the traditional states? Are the junior development pathways in the traditional states poor/under-resourced/neglected? Is the game easier to learn than ever, meaning prospects need only athleticism, good character/work ethic and decent motor skills to succeed (not necessarily footy-specific skills or game sense/footy IQ)? This conversation is definitely for another thread... -
Makes sense. Richards and Grundy are nearing the end. Richards even talking about contemplating immediate retirement following his recent concussion.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM

Agree on Bugg, got a feeling Kennedy can keep improving and surprise people. -
Common convention, yes. But without risks of that ilk, we were never going to have a chance.
-
Even if Tom has been instructed to take the option when it's there? We don't know that he hasn't, and it is a philosophical discussion. The blame falls on Oscar, but all players make mistakes, and he's a kid so he gets further leniency.

Jack Grimes has been done at MFC for some time & I'm shocked that some are only realising this now.
-
Like I said, you underrate them. Up to you.
-
I think you underrate both, but especially Hibberd.
-
I think Prestia has been close to A grade in the past, but I'm just not convinced he can get back there. I'd want him if the price is right, but I don't know what GC are asking, nor what others are offering. That will make a big difference.
-
Would love to see Richmond supporters' faces if this were to happen.
-
His output has dipped slightly of late, but I think it is more the opposition recognising the impact he can have already. Opponents are showing him more respect, and that's not a bad thing. He'll only get better.
-
As I said before he arrived, he will fill the Daniel Cross role well, and has done so far.
-
In normal circumstances you'd expect so, but this is Essendon.
-
NO. His hips & knees are cactus. Surprised that he ever played another game, but there's also a reason Geelong have loaded up on so many bigs.
-
To walk away as a FA, I'd think a player would need to start making noises now, or else Essendon could just refuse to let them go and drag it through the courts, delaying any decision until the Trade & FA period was complete, thereby getting their way. No? A Ryder-like trade weighted to the non-Essendon side is more likely.
-
It's an indictment on Matt Jones' game when he is clearly the leading possession winner, but doesn't rate a mention in the best. Neal-Bullen not far behind. Absolute dog days from these 2.
-
Either you vastly underrate Hibberd, or you take an Essendon-like mindset to trading, but he is worth much much more than that. Fortunately he may be available on a free.
-
So basically, Ralph is confirming he listened to Roos on SEN last night. Thanks for that insight Ralphy. Hibberd is tough as nails as well as being a great kick and plays taller than he is. Good target.
-
They pay frees for illegal acts that impact the play, but not those that prevent a player from impacting the play.

Setting the bar for excellence a bit low. He kept it in, instead of following it over the line. It was a decision, but nothing excellent about it.
