  1. I do find the we sacked Jeremy How comment interesting considering in July 2015 it was Howe and his management that put off contract talks until the end of the year. This article at the time August 2015 stated that Paul Roos in fact wanted to keep Howe. https://www.afl.com.au/news/196826/demons-restart-jeremy-howe-contract-talks With Jeremy we've just started talking to his manager again about what he wants to do. "We're really keen to have him part of the footy club … he's started to settle in as a defensive player and is playing some really good footy."
  2. Howe leaving according to his manager at the time.. Much of Howe's motivation to test the market stems from frustration over the multitude of roles he has been asked to play with the Demons. This year he played predominantly at half-back, and in the past he has alternated between attack and defence. He is keen to explore a more flexible, floating role as a wingman or high half-forward in the Jack Gunston mould. https://www.afl.com.au/news/89658/demon-high-flyer-jeremy-howe-likely-to-leave
  3. I think some people are missing the point. It's not so much a Weideman vs Brown, but more so that it's Weideman competing against McDonald. I've really enjoyed McDonald's form this year, but the ideal world for us is its Brown, Jackson and Weideman as our preferred talls up forward. Long term, Weideman is a much better fit for us and am worried that due to him being out of contract this year, he may look at other opportunities. After last night's performance, we simply need to get Weideman in. How the coaches rectify that I have no idea, but he's far too good for VFL level. Bringing in Brown was an absolute no brainer. He's a proven star full forward when up and going and his record speaks for itself. A fit Ben Brown makes us a genuine premiership contender.
  4. Dom Tyson has certainly fallen from grace and it's a bit sad in a way. Came to the club and was definitely one who gave his all and contributed well from 2014-2016. Then obviously with the natural growth and improved from our current mids this pushed him out onto a wing where unfortunately he was found out for his lack of pace. Went to north hoping to restart his career, but yet cannot get a spot in one of the worst sides we've seen in a long time. All the best to Domma.
  5. @goodwindees has nailed some good insight in the past. Exciting that we've already put forward a contract.
  6. Just quietly putting together a pretty good start to his VFL career. Currently averaging 24 disposals in all 3 games he's played so far.
  7. Sparrow was fantastic as was Weideman. He needs to come in next week. Harmes was honestly average for me. I see nothing that suggest he'll add much to our side anytime soon. I get more satisfaction in James Jordon and Sparrow at AFL level now that I do with Harmes. Chandler and Bedford were buzzing around the half forward and their work rate was huge. Jake Bowey has a serious serious kick on him.
  8. Dwayne just said Chandler is a chance for the mid season draft because he's a Casey listed player... Okay Dwayne...
  9. Tom Sparrow for me has been BOG. Has been a brute around the stoppages a d been really impressed with his kicking.
  10. Harmes has been ****house. He isn't coming back unto the senior side anytime soon.
  11. Rosman playing really well.
  12. Sparrow close to BOG so far.
  13. You just knew everytime we came up against north he'd kick a bag against us. So stoked to have him on our side.
  14. Loved Mitchy and glad he gets an opportunity. Good luck hanners
  15. Just remember Goodwin has gone through a pretty significant family upheaval. As someone that's gone through that myself it can be a pretty traumatic experience. I was lucky there were no kids involved whereas he's got 2 I believe? For all we know, there could potentially be an ongoing issue. We just need to be mindful and respectful of his current situation.
  16. Reporter "What are you expecting from him when he plays against them" Petracca "To kick 10"
  17. Nash I think you'll be genuinely surprised now the coaching shift in this regard. I got a glimpse into this in the NAB league where coaches are putting a huge amount of emphasis into what you're doing when you don't have the footy. They're big now on pressure acts, tackles, perceived pressure etc. How many kicks and handballs you get is almost irrelevant because now it's all about keeping your job simple, and nailing the basics. I know this has been a challange for kids in the NAB league because they're so use to just dominating in their age group, but they're getting taught about the basic fundamentals of what you do when you don't have the footy and how that can still impact the team in a huge way. Recruiters and AFL coaches are big on this and its now filtering down the under 18's so that it's ingrained in them when they step into AFL environment. This is why the coaches wouldn't give a stuff how many kicks or handballs Spargo gets. The bigger emphasis on him would be how much pressure and tackling he's applying and locking the ball in the forward 50. Imo Spargo is elite alongside ANB and Pickett in this area and this would be praised highly by the coaches when they're reviewing their games. Spargo's role might also not be there to kick goals as well. If he's doing the defensive stuff right, he'sthen that allows the likes of Fritta, McDonald, Pickett, Petracca to do their work offensively. Hope that makes sense.
  18. Let's not give this thread any more legs Byron... Training today good sir?
  19. Anyone thinknits a bit bizarre that on a day of the game there has been no announced lineups??
  20. Was it worth a punt? Many on here questioned the fact we picked up another inside mid when clearly we needed some outside run. It did not surprise me one bit that he was barely given a go then delisted.
