Consideration of symbolism - indeed the thirst for it - has steadily gathered baggage these last 57 years, proxying success and sometimes in a fond hope of creating it. Now we are gloriously baggage free. I've been thinking Nathan Jones needs to be recognised in some permanent way. Membership of Saturday's 23 would have sufficed but that wasn't to be. And Nathan's story of devotion through protracted darkness is uniquely paralleled (possibly slightly surpassed?) by that other Number 2, Robbie Flower, for whom permanent recognition is also due, indeed long over. Other major sports attach great honour to the retirement of numbers, and to the ceremony and curation that surrounds it, so I'm thinking this might be a fit recognition for Nathan - and Robbie - to suggest to the Club. I think it might have been considered before? But that was while we had baggage. And I don't think there will be future rush on other numbers; what Nathan and Robbie did was of a magnitude apart. Still, it may be a bridge too far for the Club. At least, then, could Nathan - on his and Robbie's behalf - be charged with the selection of future wearers of Number 2? Thoughts?
  2. Time for a separate '25 September 2021 Moral Assists' thread. Take the honour, @roy11
  3. Commentators always seem about a couple of seconds behind the action and if they saw it (see my previous post) it was already overtaken by the commentators-dream action that followed the split second later.
  4. Thank you for getting this out there @Sir Why You Little as a specific topic (it was mentioned in a couple of places on Postgame) I've been thinking it needed to be since my first replay viewing. It was instinctive and deliberate all at once, and blink-of-the-eye and powerful in its execution. I reckon it's a moment Kozzie now has to treasure.
  5. @TheWiz,@WalkingCivilWar, as this is all our Christmases come at once (including that they came on the 25th!!), I reckon 12 days at least. Indeed true tradition has Candlemas Eve (1 February) as the day of undecorating, so let's make it 1 November😁 Got no plans to pull my modest display down (indeed I added the rest of my scarves at around 3am on Sunday🍷🍷🍷...) But I recognise yours is a more challenging conundrum*, WCW... (*Speaking of conundrums, WCW, I haven't forgotten the 'Ziggy' we're due to collect Round 1 next year! And now it might include a flag unfurling as a bonus!)
  6. Time to replay my post of now more than half a dozen pages ago: I'm sure all you Postgame posters are still reading, or will be soon with a couple of hours sleep under your belts, so BIG HUGS of thanks and shared joy to all of you! To which I must add, my thanks to everyone who thanked all the people and groups, in places and functions far and wide, that needed to be acknowledged and thanked. I feel they did so on my behalf as well as theirs.
  7. I'm sure all you Postgame posters are still reading, or will be soon with a couple of hours sleep under your belts, so BIG HUGS of thanks and shared joy to all of you! And... Melbourne Football Club to Melbourne Storm: 'That's OK, we'll take it from here.'
  8. Still here. Just. If you'd all stop raving about this surreality maybe I'd be off...
  9. May I take this opportunity to remind 'Landers of their 'What will I do if Melbourne are Premiers' commitments. I, for one, committed to a tattoo (gulp). I intend to follow through. You?
  10. That end-of-3rd-quarter call by Brayshaw: 'Bang, Bang, Bang!' Indeed. 25 September 2021 encapsulated.
  11. Don't tell me I have to 👍Herald Sun!? Oh, alright!
  12. Well, didn't Week 2 deliver!
  13. I cringed one year when a player totally ignored the kid in an 'all about me' moment, and haven't been able to watch since, until I made myself tonight. And our boys honoured the kids so well, to a man. Yet another 'tick' for this team.
  14. Watch, from our (very) high horse, 17 other teams try to set themselves up to be like us.
  15. 2.30am, and the best part of half a Talisker single malt in, did that second half really happen?

Can we somehow prevail upon the MCC to allow a ceremony like Lou Richards was allowed for burying the Colliwobbles?
  17. Damn COVID! We'd all be there for that funeral!...
  18. Another bit of fun: But for BBB's(?) poster, 13th Premiership by 13 goals.
  19. In the wake of tonight (um, last night), while I haven't been able to bring myself to read all your stories, love to you all, for your absent friends and their stories.
  20. Do we now take it up a notch?...
  21. More from those who were there, please!
  22. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 to everything everyone's said. To all of which, may I add that, aside from first premierships (notably North's 1975 75-point win), drought breakers have been: 2001 - 'Fitzroy' - 26 points 2005 - 'South Melbourne' - 4 points 2016 - 'Footscray' - 22 points 2017 - Richmond - 48 points 2021 - Melbourne - 74 points Emphatic, with a capital everything. And to all of those who said they can now die happy (and I'm definitely a D'Land senior cit)... DON'T!
  23. Number 2. Then. Now. Number 11. Then. Now. Now! For Then.
  24. Like it, Goffy.
