I agree with some of your points but the rule changes and our recruiting around these are not the reason we are in the current position. It is so evident to see that it’s purely effort at this point in time, the players are being lazy defensively. The footage is damning at how far behind they are lagging their opponents and this has nothing to do with speed but it’s their willingness to chase. T Mac out of form and Weed not stepping up has hurt us I agree but key position players are hard to find and if anything it may have been just another developing key position player they could have targeted. I’m sure you’ll agree that our key backs were our achilles heal and they filled this void with May and Lever but unfortunately we have had some bad luck with these players. I think the only place we are missing speed is up forward. Hannan has hurt us as has Smith. I think they have recruited some small forwards with pace in Chandler and Bedford but they are just 1st year players.

In fairness I don’t think anyone could foresee we would be in our current position.

Im assuming you’re one of Goodwins assistants with that comment. Lets keep the same players in then, that don’t run and chase.

I agree he has some limitations but at least he applies pressure and tackles.

VDB is the big worry I’d say due to his previous issues. I think originally they said 2 weeks and now it has blown out considerably. I’m not overly concerned with May, I think they are just putting some extra work into him to set his season up. I’m sure I heard Goody say that Lever is only a few weeks away.

Laziness

I think our issue is nothing to do with outside speed. Our current mids have been incredibly lazy and are not working back into defence.

Preuss will be back for rd 1 or 2. Hardly panic stations
