Time to go Goody?
i asked claude ai who would be the best and worst possible candidates based on some key metrics best 3: 1. Ross Lyon (The Perfect Fit) Why he's ideal: Proven success: Multiple Grand Finals with different clubs (St Kilda, Fremantle) Tactical adaptability: Famous for completely changing gameplans mid-season based on personnel Zero tolerance for passengers: Will drop stars if they're not giving 100% - did it repeatedly at both clubs Ruthless standards: Players either buy in completely or get moved on Available: Currently doing media but would take the right opportunity Perfect for Melbourne's issues: He'd identify the ego problems immediately and either fix attitudes or force list changes. 2. Damien Hardwick (If Available) Why he fits: Ultimate success: 3 premierships with Richmond's "no stars, all effort" culture Gameplan evolution: Completely reinvented Richmond's style multiple times during their dynasty Standards obsession: Built a culture where effort was non-negotiable Tough love master: Players either embraced the system or got traded Caveat: Might stay at Gold Coast, but if available, he's proven he can fix exactly Melbourne's problems. 3. John Longmire (Long Shot but Perfect) Why he'd be transformative: Sustained excellence: Kept Sydney competitive for over a decade Tactical flexibility: Adapted through multiple rule changes and personnel shifts Culture builder: Sydney's "no individual above the team" mentality Standards enforcer: Drops players regardless of reputation if standards slip The issue: Extremely unlikely to leave Sydney, but if he did, he'd be the perfect cultural reset. WORST 3 1. Brett Ratten (The Ultimate Disaster) Why he'd be catastrophic: Zero tactical adaptability: Stubbornly sticks to the same gameplan regardless of personnel or opposition Soft on standards: Players consistently switched off under him at Carlton and St Kilda Can't handle egos: Lost control of Carlton's playing group completely Proven failure with talent: Had talented lists at both clubs and achieved nothing Still coaching mindset: Would probably try to persist with Melbourne's failed 2021 approach The nightmare scenario: He'd let the current ego problems fester while running the same failed gameplan. 2. Nathan Buckley (The Ego Enabler) Why he'd be terrible: Player's mate syndrome: Too close to players, struggles with tough decisions Tactical rigidity: Collingwood's gameplan barely evolved during his entire tenure Standards issues: Collingwood consistently had effort problems under him Can't handle pressure: Crumbled in big moments repeatedly Won't drop stars: Even when players weren't performing, he'd persist with "names" The problem: Melbourne needs someone to crack the whip, not someone who'll be their friend. 3. David Teague (The Mediocrity Merchant) Why he'd destroy them: Zero tactical innovation: Carlton's gameplan under him was prehistoric Can't command respect: Players openly questioned him at Carlton Soft approach: Never established proper standards or accountability List management disasters: Poor at identifying who should stay or go Mentally weak: Caved under pressure constantly The horror show: Would turn Melbourne into Carlton circa 2019-2021 - talented but directionless with zero accountability.

2024 team strategy/mechanics vs 2021-2023
apologies if this has been covered elsewhere (please link me if so) i really want to understand in detail, the mechanics behind the MFC change in strategy and to see where our machine has broken down. is it possible to plot out a blueprint (like a car) of how the MFC worked from 2021-2023 (which worked pretty well) and what was changed to leave us with the 2024 machine (which did not work) if we understand the machine we can understand what needs to be changed. is it strategy? is it player related? which part of the machine failed, and how can we fix it? Cheers

Angus Brayshaw Forced into Retirement
shocked and devastated at the news, hopefully he lives a long and peaceful life. angry at the injustice of how we ended up here. he needs a development role asap, need to harness the "energy" this situation will generate. his selflessness cannot be lost. longer term, this could be very interesting from a salary cap point of view. we could keep more stars for longer or maybe even poach a star to keep our window open for longer. the spreadsheet staff will be having a field day!

GAMEDAY: Rd 11 vs Fremantle
been brewing for a few weeks. havent been out of 2nd/3rd gear, lots of turnovers in the forward half and garbage going inside 50. finally play a team that can challenge us and we get smacked. not the end of the world, only finals matter, but they better start improving soon

GAMEDAY: Rd 11 vs Fremantle
dockers inaccuracy keeping us in it for now .. so many turn overs in the middle of the ground killing us.
-
GAMEDAY: Rd 11 vs Fremantle
dockers looking good so far, cant afford to be super inaccurate today
-
TEAMS: Rd 10 vs North Melbourne
For sure! Hopefully everything with the fitness program is all good and we don’t have any mass disasters!

TEAMS: Rd 10 vs North Melbourne
No one concerned we have two “hammys” at once, with a new fitness guy at the helm? Something to think about for sure

When did the tears start watching the grand final?
Like many, i have day dreamed the moment where you knew the game was over and when the song played after the final siren. if i was an actor and needed to cry, id just think of these moments 😂 it goes back to when i was a kid when leigh matthews got to the boundary from the box in the 1990 GF and did the fist pump. When Fristch kicked the 2nd goal on the 4th, that moment happened for me. i had a meltdown. a lifetime of day dreaming came true. the rest was a blur. still cant believe it - feels like the world has blended into an alternate reality with my dreams.

Gary Ayres Player of the Finals
GF votes should be weighted to be 1.5 or 2.0x for the very reason most people stated. this is the definition of a bureaucrat award.
