Agreed, it all a ruse to get the price up and add a year. If he's asking for four and they're offering 2... it'll be three. If they're offering 300,000 and he's asking for 500,000, surprise, surprise! Happens every year.
  2. Agreed. Even bigfooty of all places wasn't discussing it last night while Demonland burned. We seem to be the only ones freaking out about this.
  3. Of course he's going to say it's not about the money- who, in their right mind, would say to the media: 'My next contract is gonna all be about the money.' The media line that every player has given for the past month is 'the MFC is a great place to be.' That's the current PR focus of the club.
  4. Hogan being allowed to visit home occasionally is often cited as one of the reasons he and his family are very happy with the MFC.
  5. Bernie wanted to reject the trade and stay at the Crows until he spoke to the Coach and list manager. Was told that no matter how well he played in 2014, he wouldn't be offered a contract at Adelaide for 2015.
  6. Bernie was thrown.
  7. We've got something pretty special here. His vision in traffic, exemplified by THAT handball in the fourth quarter, is amazing! In the team for round one on the back of the past three games. He's the kinda player you'd love to play alongside.
  8. Him and his mates were trolling the draft pages before he was drafted- some very funny stuff; was positive the MFCwould have put an end to it.
  9. Fantastic debut for Oliver. Seems a natural footballer; finds the right position and the ball seems to find him. Actually reminds me a bit of vandenBerg. If he plays like that in NAB two and three, then he'll be playing round one.
  10. Players don't undertake the negotiation, managers do; if it was simply a matter of clubs giving out fantastic contracts, then threre'd be no need for managers or negotiation. And yes, if a club can sign a player for under market value, then it's a huge win for the club. A manager has to maximise their clients earning potential. That doesn't mean threatening to leave, it simply means leaving it un-said.
  11. Because if Hogan said this his negotiating power is reduced to zero. By saying 'I'm gonna sign on no matter what' he goes from potentially 1 million a year to a small fraction of that. To negotiate a suitable long term contract, threre has to be an element of danger there- in this case, pay me what I'm worth on the market or I'll leave.
  12. Its just a disappointing thing that we're all now focusing on this, after a week of optimism following the intra-club last week. Demonland has been a lovely place to visit for the last couple of weeks, now this kinda casts a shadow over everything. Of course Hogan shouldn't sign until (1) CBA is decided, (2) he's further into his current contract and (3) he sees how things are shaping up with the list, gameplan, etc. Unfortunately realism doesn't really come into football analysis analysis and media anymore, and the good press that MFC has been receiving recently will be overshadowed by this speculation. Every MFC article this year will have a Jesse Hogan footnote. Ps. He'll stay.
  13. I feel that his value is only going to get higher; the longer it goes the better the contract will get. His manager is doing what managers are employed to do.
  14. Agreed. Brayshaw was always slated to start the year in the VFL and played the practice match for them the week before round one. His form at that level was irrepressible, so he got the early call-up. Not to put the pressure on Oliver, but it's good that he knows you have to earn your spot through performing in the 2nds.
  15. Obviously I, like everyone else, would love to see Jesse locked down for the long term. However I can't for the life of me see the sense in him signing a 10 year deal. How could Jesse, his manager or the MFC have any idea what sort of money players will be on in ten years time. That'd be two broadcast deals from now when it's not inconceivable that player payments would be significantly higher than they are now. Big money in 2016 won't be big money in 2024.
  16. I've only heard positives about him on the track. I'd say his eyes probably lit up when Petracca broke his toe. Did his chances of slotting into the half forward flank for round one no harm at all.

FWIW... Head says Parish Heart says Curnow Both have been known to be spectacularly wrong in the past.

Very true. They released a lacklustre highlights reel for Brayshaw which had people on DL very nervous about his kicking. Week of the draft, they released the 'real thing' and DL rejoiced. Highlight packages are a bit of fun, but you can't take too much away from them.
  19. Welcome to the MFC. He's one of us now and I will back him in. Bring on 2016!
  20. Vince agreed to be traded to Melbourne after being told he wouldn't be offered another contract at adelaide after 2014.
  21. Butcher would be dirt cheap, if not free. Big bodied, key position forward who regularly takes contested mark and is good in the lead. Yes, he kicks like a mule- but with all those other attributes, I think the kicking can be worked on; never to be perfected, but perhaps improved. IMHO.
  22. Whatever the offer is, add %10. Needs to be too good to refuse. Our first pick and Howe... And fingers crossed.
  23. If only we'd taken Brad Johnson instead of Trent Ormond Allen!
  24. I would take Aish in an instant. Last year's form is a better reflection of his ability as a footballer; and that form was very, very promising.
  25. I love my job - but I'm not going to sign a 10 year deal to stay here. I'm still going to work hard, enjoy it, perform well, and who knows, maybe I will stay here ten years! But I'm happy to just keep working like I'm working, and talk contracts when its time to talk contracts. He's already extended his contract once, let him play football for a while.
