because they are not playing a lot of their stars and its hard to just click into gear in round one without the best 22 playing together much.  Also potential for slight premiership hangover and a late start to preseason meaning some of there players might not be cherry ripe in round 1. Also ideally you want each player to have 2 good hit outs prior to round 1 and guys like Bont wont have that

have a feeling the Dogs might start the season quite slowly. pity we dont play them early

to those worrying about there being too much hype around the Dees, never fear, once we lose to the Saints in round 1 we will get hammered in the media and things will get back to normal

Great that this bloke is being sheltered from external expectation by Trac and others.  at another time we would have been relying on Gus to be the future

I really rate him, he is a lot more than an inside midfeilder, he is truely an all rounder.  even in JLT I remember he took possession, saw a player coming, dropped the shoulder and ran around hime so easily.  he is a natural talent, great fella and fierce competitor

Gawn got fwd a fair but last year in his first full season, and is fitter again so I'd expect 30 goals from him with only one ruck

Spencer cannot play fwd at all and has poor skills so IMO it is very unlikely he will play in round one. might get a go tactically against a few team perhaps

Those thinking Spencer has any chance of playing round 1 are kidding themselves.  Goody is just rewarding a good preseason and keeping him hungry if Gawn gets injured.

Spencer had 0 marks, 1 tackle and 1 kick on the weekend.

I think I heard Dom say he won't play the next practice match.

Great to see the club take a hard line with players who aren't giving 100%. even if he is giving 85% and its not obvious. soft clubs let this slide but Goody wants Watts to be a star of the comp not just a good player

In Watts' defence it does not seem to be in nature to be 100% focused on footy for 11 months of the year. For Viney he eats it up. I haven't seen Viney out partying at 3am 

Watts will be need to pushed by his coaches and teammates every now and then and it is no big deal.

What a difference. The crowd noise is so much better and I'm surprised it's better without the umpire noise as well. 

The umpire noise drives me insane! All you hear is then yelling play on or maxy, maxy! Adds very little and takes away plenty. If umpire explanations needed the commentators can listen to the umpire shyte.

worst case - he has slacked off a bit and Goody is giving him a kick up the backside in preseason to maintain high standards.  which is a great move by Goody. Watts will never have the drive of a T Mac or Viney so he needs to be pushed
