Last year there were 39 trades. So far this year there has been 5, meaning 34 trades must occur in the next 50 hours. Can't see this year getting close to last year.
-
Why would he choose Port over Sydney then?
-
Yeah I have no idea why Port are still in this and why many in the media are saying that Port are really after him. I was under the impression that under no circumstances would he leave Melbourne.
-
Agreed, I think I read Adelaide offered more however he chose Port, perhaps the compensation would have been start of round 2 if he did go to Adelaide. Maybe Port gives us 30, 34 and 35 for Watts? Don't think so though.
-
Motlop has nominated Port. I think Watts to Geelong will happen now.

Who's to say we wont have a first round this year and next year? -
Ok, so what your essentially saying is to refuse to trade with anyone unless they give us what they want (i.e screw them over). It sounds as though you would have preferred Lever to walk to the draft.
-
Smarter maybe, but not equitable. Take a 3rd round pick out (late 40's) its essentially swapping him for pick 10, when they picked him in the draft at 13. Its way unders for a guaranteed quality young player.

Yes but how many closed sessions and home truths have been given in the past decade? I've got no doubt Roos gave him much more positive support, however I'm sure he also gave him much constructive feedback, he was dropped under Roos' watch as a 25 year old. I don't think we are hanging him out to dry, its a two way straight. There have been failings on both sides.
-
I watched him closely in the last game against Collingwood. He was at a canter for the entire game. I think if he has a massive pre-season he'll show his true worth. I honestly don't think he is a natural mid-defender, I'd actually love to see him up forward.
-
If I was Jack I would be peeved as he can no doubt see where the club is going and wants to be a part of it.
-
I don't disagree with how it may have been handled, however what I would say is that there were some home truths told from both sides and as such I don't know how this situation could have proceeded smoothly. The only way would have been if the club had remained silent and said nothing to anyone. Would that have been the best outcome?

Didn't find it cliche at all. At least it wasn't 'It is what it is...'

No way they would take that

I take it your not a Goodwin fan?

Kent? -
Lever will take the heat off a bit while they develop. Hopefully they do become as effective as those three individuals.
-
I think the best thing about the Lever trade is that it gives us enormous flexibility with using TMac, be it up forward or in the ruck.
-
So I take it you don't like Josh Mahoney. 25 is a 'solid pick'. What does that even mean?

I'm actually staggered they gave us something back for this year and next year. -
The difference is that Junior was one of our best players (had been for years), our captain and leader. Jack is popular with team mates, members and sponsors as he is a good bloke.

I agree that he maybe should have gone on another year Ron, but he was going on 36 at the time. How long were we going to keep him for? 2, 3 more years? Where we failed was not having a plan to get him straight onto the coaching staff.

You put a lot of value on such a massive unknown.
