  1. Had we of cashed Petty in, and gotten rightful value for Grundy, we’d have extended our window. I think we’re still firmly in the window, but I’m more worried about once it passes. How quickly things can fall. I hope we assess at years end, and be more active in acquiring high end talent.

I’m not a draft guru by any stretch but what is the reason we didn’t go for Curtain ? He would be good as part of the transition for our back line as we are getting older.

Is it because he is from WA and the go home factor.

Somethings up. He drifted to 8, and looked a logical top 5 selection. Freo supporter, idolized Pav, but seemed happy enough to land anywhere.

Yeah Brodie comes across quite likeable and thoughtful in that interview. Glad he says he doesn't have a bad word to say about the Dees, but that it just didn't work out and that it's the nature of the industry these days (but surely behind closed doors he'd be disappointed).

I don’t think he’d be disappointed. He strikes me as the type of guy who’d be glad to have a year with Max. He goes to Sydney as the most complete version of himself. No reason he shouldnt feel as though he isnt the best ruck in the land

He wanted to play finals with us, yet we selected a bloke we wouldn’t even bring on for a few minutes.

    Clearly a FD decision.

You could easily argue that cost us a PF.

You could also argue that a lack of discipline cost us the PF.

Only 5 more votes than Trac, yet Neale has won 2 medals in that time.

I’d say the 169 votes combined for Trac and Clarrie has something to do with Trac not snagging a medal. The consistency from our two the last four seasons has been nothing short of remarkable.

    Oliver should’ve won 2 brownlows.

  6. Thoroughly impressive speaker these days Grundy. Very polished with true authenticity. I never used to like hearing him speak but he’s really a breath of fresh air. He knows who he is, and will be a massive asset to Sydney. I hope he goes well.

Would still be a massive risk though considering he hasn’t had much exposure in there this year? Jason Taylor does have a good eye for these type of players though, wanting to trade up for Butters , Bailey Humphrey etc

Taylor does have a good record. Humphrey looks a jet, Butters is a jet, and we traded up for Oliver, who has won 4 B&Fs, and is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

  8. If it looks like Curtain slides to 6 on draft night, then WC have an offer to consider. Otherwise they back themselves in, and take a Vic kid, who likely comes back in a few years. They cannot afford the wasted development years should he not stay, and they later have to go through the draft again. We are in a great position, as 6, 11 and a 2024 F1 is overs - 9 years out of 10 that’s overs.

4th and and undetermined future 1st (could easily be 12) from hawks is in no way better than a guaranteed 6,11 and dees future first.

Yeah I think clubs would be cautious doing a FF1 pick with Hawthorn. They are the most well drilled side in the competition. West Coast need picks this draft. 6 and 11 would be ideal for them. But I’m not sure 6, 11, and our FF1 2024 would be enough.

Sounds like we aren’t addressing the forward line issues.  Another year of TMac and BBB playing 10 games between them, An unproven Fullerton.  We have lost depth and haven’t added any proven contributors.

2024 could be another wasted year and May and Gawn only getting older.

    Hard to be optimistic.

We tried to address the forward line issues by drafting JVR, and last year Jefferson. Also retaining Petty could help us up forward. BBB and TMAC will be off the books after this year, so if JVR, Jefferson and Petty don’t work, we can spend up on a forward next trade period. We need to give them a chance this year as it’s what we targeted them for.

May is getting older, but we have Turner coming through, and he looks capable.

We have nailed some good late picks in previous drafts in River, Bowey, McVee, and now we have pick 6 and 11, which is a good opportunity to replenish our future talent. We are in a good position to contend for a while longer yet.

  11. If we don’t get what we want for Grundy, we can always go back to Grundy and ask him whether he wants to remain at the club as a back up for Max, or perhaps consider other clubs outside of Sydney. Sydney don’t hold all the cards like many believe. Grundy won’t want to stay as a back up.

Picks 10 and 20 would make it a conversation but we'd have to have huge wraps on guys like Curtin, O'Sullivan and Caddy to really do it.

AND we'd have to have a short term answer. Chol, Koschitzke, most of the even half realistic ones are spoken for.

It's up to player managers to make their desires known and work across the industry to find options if they want to move a guy 2 years out.

Petty still isn’t proven as a forward. As a backman alone though, he is probably worth picks 10 and 20. However, he is coming off of an injury, appears home sick, and the club at present seems hell bent on off loading salary cap space, which makes me think we’ve something in the works next trade period. Could it be a forward?

Pick 46 is an insult given they also hold #33 (or whatever it is after compensation picks).  Not that I think #33 is fair.

We gave #27 last year and he hadn't played senior football for months partly due to injury and partly due to Collingwood not selecting him in the last 6 weeks of 2022.

Grundy is now injury free and has played the whole VFL/AFL season showing he has fully recovered.  We took a risk re his injury last year; there is no risk for Sydney.

I’d like to see us wheel Gawn out in a moon boot in the next few days, just to put doubt in Sydney’s mind - that we might need I keep Grundy.
