Goodwin & the coaches have managed to destroy this midfield and the rest of the team , his pig headed approach of trying to turn defenders into fwds , had a midfield once feared to zero, how dobu attract to talent to this rabble

We had Yze coaching the midfield when he had no experience, we have Stafford coaching the forward line. And we have a drop kick coaching the side.

  2. Lost to West Coast, smashed by Freo, losing soundly to Collingwoods twos. Fans actually think we are a finals side. Not even close. Finals list, but coach has lost the players. Anyone who knows the game saw it weeks ago. I’d be interested to see what this list could do even this year, with a new coach.

The Rachele situation is potentially a watch and see I reckon. I heard that there are some Melbourne based clubs who think he would like to come home.

Mind you, that was from a player agent who has nothing to do with Josh so I took it with a grain of salt. Some of those people talk out the side of their mouths. They also try to unsettle clubs and players by talking garbage. 🫠

Rachele wants to come home. Petty wants to go home. That’s a starting point, as both players have lost trade value this year, and would be worth similar on an open market - an early second rounder. Personally, I’d prefer Rachele is the club. I think Petty mentally fragile like Hogan was. Credit to Jesse, he’s coming good, but it’s been a long road. Body language of Petty is that of a player I wouldn’t even play if I were coach. He looks as though he doesn’t even want to be out there.

Our midfield depth is a major concern

If you watched Casey you’d agree we have nobody looking remotely likely to make it as an AFL midfielder coming through.

    Viney appears injured

Trac is a gun but is needed in our F50 because we have a pretty weak forward line with the exception probably being Fritta and Pickett (sometimes)

Sparrow looks like a player but produces little

Oliver - disposal by hand is usually good - disposal by foot is comical

ANB - not an AFL midfielder imo he is a good pressure small forward

    Pickett - see ANB

Max - a one man ruck band - unsustainable in all respects. JVR is not terrible as a backup but he’s supposed to be our big KPF. Our rucking depth is frankly non existent

I don’t think we are lacking depth in our midfield. We have players who could run through there - who we don’t run through there. Rivers looks a likely candidate. McVee could be effective. ANB is a liability as a midfielder. We have too many of a similar type, and no one like Liam Baker - who is great by foot. We have bulls, but no polish. Unfortunately for us, even if they have polish, we have no forwards. Petty is a promising key back, Turner is an experiment gone wrong, who could be a promising key back, BBB is cooked, JVR is a target, and was missed today, but is unproven.

I’ve always believed we had a gameplan that was built around our core group (Oliver/Trac/Viney/Max/Lever and May).

It was about maximising the ability of that group by not asking them to make decisions, not asking them to hit precise targets and not asking them to be quick and agile. We had big bulls and played accordingly.

Now that the football world has moved on, we are suddenly asking those players to become something they haven’t been for 4-5 years and in some cases, their entire careers.

They look devoid of confidence, they look confused and they definitely cannot consistently do what is being asked of them. This is a group that commands a huge chunk of our salary each year and they are currently being paid to be utterly lost.

Utterly lost. I’d agree with that. I think we are wasting Petraccas career. If Collingwood end up bottom 6, I’d float a trade. Petracca is captain coach material, and he looks fed up playing under Goodwin. We need to bring some youth in. We have Windsor - and should’ve had Wilson - but we need to replenish. Our list is overrated, and our coach is just hopeless tactically.

He is robbing someone else of a living. 3 year contract! Give me strength!

He looks unprepared, and unfit. Unfortunately for us, he doesn’t appear interested in applying himself either. What a waste of money.

Our midfield is not 15 goals worse than Freos…

That was a whole team debacle. I don’t think we are that good this year. We lost depth, we are changing how we play in the defensive half when we have the ball, we still don’t have a reliable tall, our best midfielder was absent for preseason, some core players are out of form, and we spent the last two years trying to eke out another ‘prelim or better’ performance through dour dumping of the ball to protect the mids (2022) and focussing entirely on a front half game where we were dominated ‘territory’ except in crucial moments (2023).

We are rectifying some past mistakes with our onfield style of play and I hope we can rebalance our list and plug some easily foreseeable gaps.

For me, 2025 is a better show but we are running out of time.

I think a lot of what you said - is making excuses. But Freo did similar a couple years back. We play chaos football, and heavily rely on momentum. Longmuir simply deconstructs that, takes away our strength, and leaves us standing there with our pants down. Which is, our midfield do not defend, we don’t spread, man up, or play zone. The only bloke out there I saw today with half a clue, was Petracca, when he was imploring teammates to press up.

And we're robbing Peter to pay Paul by playing Trac as a forward more than mid. He's a star wherever he plays, but we are a very average midfield without him.

In three years time we may be without Gawn, Viney and May. And Trac and Lever fast approaching 30. Oliver heading toward C grade.

Our flag window is definitely closed with this list. Time to hit the FAs and trade table.

Need a ruck (Moyle?), a couple of high end mids with decent foot skills and a key back or two.

The young kid Sampson Ryan from Richmond, he’s a far better pick up. He’s the next Max Gawn. Go get him football department. Can also kick straight. Next best ruck in the game.

Petracca definitely has to be a full time mid. Turner and Petty need to play as full time backs. TMAC May as well play forward as we’re waiting on Jefferson and JVR, who aren’t there this year. It’s a gap year for us forward wise, which isn’t great for our list trajectory, but it is what it is.

Our window was closing last year, as we had an opportunity to select a couple of extremely classy and quick youthful wingers to help our spread/pace on the outside. Glad we got one in Windsor. But it was a massive error to not pick Darcy Wilson. We also overpaid for McAdam. We didn’t need Billings. I’ll stop there. Could keep going and going.

  9. Very bad list management. We got Grundy and give him away for a pie and coke. We already had a slow midfield before he arrived. It’s one paced, doesn’t spread, and doesn’t work defensively. In addition, there is no cohesive strategy. Before this year, we had a bloke running the midfield, who never had any experience coaching it, nor playing it. It’s like having a ruck as your forward coach, and also expecting it to function well.

  10. George looks impressive. Sestan just has class, but needs to find more of the ball. Fullerton looks soft. Jefferson playing ok, gets a bad wrap around here, but is developing as expected. Kolt is doing ‘Kolt things’ - just laying a tackle here and there, yet to see how he got drafted. AMW going ok.

  11. Massive game by Petty. I’ve always believed he was the most promising young back man in the league, and he probably was. But to start to do it as a forward, then get injured, and come back, and face doubters. It’s refreshing to see a performance like tonight. I still think he’s our future post Steve May. But at the very least, if he keeps this up, and does wish to go back home, Crows will have to cough up a couple 1st rounders, and one will be low.

    PTSD baby

It seems a bit that way, considering Geelong were there to be run over. Holmes didn’t want it inside early, and now the games opened up he’s a factor. Petracca needs to just tell our midfield to get out of his way. Sometimes I think Viney is a liability for Petracca.

  13. Improved game from Petty. His execution with passes is letting him down, but he’s making the right decisions, and is marking strongly. Definitely he’s best game this year.

Billings is killing us. He’s a coach killer - that’s for sure. Hopefully Hunter gets back soon, he is a far better fit for us.

  14. I’ve seen many facets of this issue. I have been the perpetrator, the victim, been in custody issues, seen both sides of addiction, completed degrees to the point of writing essays on battered women, also had sympathy for either side of the argument. Have sired both genders. My conclusion is that it’s a complicated and complex issue DV, and thus far to date, there has been a simplistic understanding as to why perpetrators offend. As a society, we are dealing with the broken down family unit, the increase of drugs like ice, social media use we haven’t previously had to deal with. Knowing what I do know, as a parent, I am more concerned of my son, than I am my daughter.

  15. How the hell we overlooked Wilson is beyond me. Would’ve set us up well. Saints have drafted well of late. Many write them off, but they have good youth coming through. Evident that they do need a key back though.

He's not playing well but I think there are good enough reasons for it to warrant persisting longer.

He is a confidence player but is at I think 1.5 from set shots. I suspect if he had nailed a few more of his set shots earlier, he'd be feeling better about himself.

He also isn't fit enough but I suspect the FD think he'll get that fitness just as quickly in the seniors than anywhere else.

I can't deal with the "swap TMac and Petty" stuff though. TMac's looked great in the backline so far this year and looked awful in the forward line last year. Robbing Peter to (potentially) pay Paul isn't the answer.

The Swap is that Petty is a higher quality back, and Tmac is a level above Petty as a forward. So it’s a no brainer.
