If Simon Goodwin continues to coach Melbourne we won’t win another flag. He is insipid, a deadset monotone bore, he never makes changes that work, McDonald should not have even played last night but to give him 4 quarters was agonising. Schache sat there all night, McDonald ran around like a kindergarten pupil playing against men.The driviling [censored] the forward line gave us last night was the camel, that’s it for me, if Goodwin is coach next year I’m out, I’ll save a couple grand on membership fees and I’ll put it towards much healthier pursuits like golf.
Probably have PTSD so counseling is gonna cost me.Goodwins message isn’t getting through. We should part ways amicably and give someone else a shot at it.

This has probably been explained, but when Brody goes to the Swans , do we get a pick from them?
Depends if we are contributing to his wage. I suspect if we did, then Pick 11 could be in the works.

No draft picks are likely to help in the near term, if we want to win with the list we have right now we must trade for a key fwd. The other choice is to draft best available trade for players on the cheap and accept we probably just aren’t good enough right now but happy to play finals for years to come not unlike cats the last decade. I’d vote for the latter over risking it all to maybe get 1 more now.
We had Jesse and kicked it over his head every week, then cursed him for he’s body language.

1. A disciplined coach
2. A disciplined game plan
3. Capable assistant coaches
4. Clayton Oliver (hope he stays)
5. Rivers in the midfield

I think it’s fantastic we got Grundy back on the park, so his trade value should not diminish. Sydney will be a great cultural fit for him. We didn’t need Grundy. He was as surplus to needs, as all the points we kicked tonight. This club needs an overhaul. It’s ridiculous.

I don’t know about insane, but having an apprenticeship under Thompson and Hird, no doubt helping us

Still think we've had the best list for the last four years straight. TMac a significant weakspot, and Jordon not quite up to it, but our topliners are unmatched. Steven May incredible tonight against the best forward in the comp.
You have good judgment. Likewise, I agree, however, I just believe we by far and away 10 miles to none have the best list. We fluked the 2021 flag, and now we pay he price. Our coach lacks discipline. Our players are ineffective. This Is a whole other convo, but, if Goodwin remains, then certain players are going to waste. That being said, I speak of discipline. As a club, we really do need to be led correctly. We were partially sidelined by Paul Roos endorsing Goodwin, primarily because Roos believed Goodwin was best suited to carry on Roos vision. Big mistake. I believe it is. I really don’t know why we appointed the bloke, and Roos aside, we wouldn’t have.

Gawn - overwhelmed and outplayed
Viney - disappointing and careless
Petracca - couldn’t lift team
Oliver - disposals regularly amateurish
May - dominated his opponent
Salem - tentative and loose
Rivers - lacked expected drive
Langdon - continued disappointing year
McVee - calm under pressure
Pickett - hard to rate
Lever - controlled the defense
Spargo - some deft touches
Chandler - little impact again
Fritsch - just some cameos
McDonald - couldn’t justify selection
Neal-Bullen - seemingly no role
Tomlinson - effective albeit loose
Bowey - poor under pressure
Hunter - couldn’t provide connection
Smith - provided some energy
Jordan - had no influence
Sparrow - an almost game
ANB was enormous.

We have bombed the ball inside our forward since Moloney/Jamar. We just happened to pinch the 21 flag. Supporters are happy enough with that.

Listen to them. We squandered our best asset - our lead. Be hard now.

Langdon and Salem just don't have the energy for finals.
I’d agree

The umpires helped Carlton. That wasn’t a free kick that resulted in their last goal. Whoever wins tonight I think will go far. But I love seeing daring football. There is an opportunity to switch the play and run and gun.

Kick the ball off the ground out of congestion. Outside of that I can’t see how the AFL avoid concussion within the contest. The contested area already doesn’t make sense. Players don’t understand it. Someone will snap their neck soon. The only way out of that is to kick it off the ground out of congestion. But that wouldn’t be considered I doubt. But basically, the game is heavily focused around the contested ball. It’s at the heart of Aussie Rules. If they change that they change the game. But if they don’t do something they’ll face payouts the AFL won’t come back from.

If Angus Brayshaw's footy career ends due to this tragic concussion injury and his previous history of concussions then the AFL and Brayden "the Thug" Maynard better watch out.
I can see this all going to court for lack of duty of care and Angus Brayshaw having his football career ruined. Mark my words, there will be legal consequences in the future!
I hope it does go to court. Brayshaw deserves compensation.

Correct
Grundy is too good a footballer (from an overall perspective) to not be included in the team now
Nothing against the kid, but I'm convinced that Grundy would have been much better value than Laurie on Thursday night. One is a seasoned veteran whilst the other is just a kid finding his way
The MC just needs to find a way of making 2 ruckmen in the same team work. Other teams play 2 rucks and it works for them
And back in 2021 there was no thought of not playing Jackson & Gawn in the same team
A mini think-tank and some creative ideas is required from the MC. And Stafford & Yze need to figure out how to get a connection from the mids & forwards. Earn your money lads!
We need competent forwards, not gun AFL level rucks who cannot play forward. Grundy in, would be a waste, as neither Grundy or Gawn are much chop up forward.

I don’t like Maynard. But he’d be stiff to miss a grand final on that. The rules are predicated on players sacrificing themselves at the expense of their opponents though, so I suspect he may end up missing the grand final game (should the pies make it). The adjudicators make the rules though. They’ll eventually foot a very big bill in the future, as they have a league full of players they encourage to recklessly sacrifice their own health.

Norf will be silly to do that trade. Make WC sweat and call out Curtin. I think we should instead make a play for NOrf's 2nd pick Pick 2 for 5 and 15. is a fair trade. Norf end up getting Watson with 3, McKercher with 5, Sanders with 15 with NGA. We can also throw in Tommo to give them KPD stock for 2024 to sweeten the deal.
We either get Curtin or Reid.
I agree. Pick 2 is Reid anyway. North know it and won’t trade it. WC won’t trade 1 as they’ll miss Curtain. I think Reid is inevitably off to North.

Trade Rumours 2023
in Melbourne Demons

Younger brother most definitely does have potential. I spoke to a bloke the other day who said he’s the best junior he’s seen play.
