    This is what makes my blood boil. If this is the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the comp, the competition is [censored]. Even St Kilda have played more scintillating footy at times this year. If we'd shown up, this could easily have been our year of making it all the way. The comp will only be more even and more difficult next year.

    Hilarious the way the commentators are talking up this borefest of a game. Any chance of a goal happening? High scoring teams like Adelaide and Sydney, even Port, will make mince meat of both these teams.

    It can't be overstated enough, rubbish teams like Port, West Coast and Geelong get such a free ride from biased fixturing and the ensuing umpiring advantage. And wow, that's as typical a Richmond final ten seconds I've ever seen.

    I think there'll be plenty of soul-searching going on for Goodwin. He will, rightly, be second-guessing his approach to players and whether it's strong enough to drive us towards sustained success. The good-cop, bad-cop routine only works when you have both in play.

    Keep in mind that Richmond and Essendon finished bottom 6 last year, helping their finals surge this year. Port also got a super-easy run finishing in the mid-range last year; they ended up 5th despite only beating 2 teams in the top 8 (Sydney when they were terrible and West Coast, who nobody rates -- fitting they play each other in the first elimination final; they're both pretenders). Unfortunately Collingwood managed 10.5 wins and STILL finished bottom 6. Like us, they lost a lot of games by small margins. Their list is nowhere near as bad as it appears and their easy fixture will see them push for finals.

    Ironically, we would've gotten in based on head-to-head results (because we beat West Coast at Subiaco).

    Basically this. It isn't Collingwood's fault, nor Adelaide's, nor West Coast's that we ended up here. This entire outcome rests squarely at the feet of two groups: the MFC coaches and the MFC players who threw the season in the bin. Direct your angst and frustration at them. It's not the responsibility of other clubs to clean up a mess of our own creation.

    Oh, we'll know if West Coast, of all teams, smash them in a fortnight. We'll know.

    We score 9 more points this year and we play Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval in a fortnight. We beat Port Adelaide by 23 points at the MCG 5 weeks ago. We beat Adelaide by 41 points at Adelaide Oval 2 months ago. We beat Port Adelaide by 40 points at Adelaide Oval in Round 21 last year. Port Adelaide have defeated 1 team inside the top 8 all season (Sydney in Round 1, when they were shite). Oh and, after today, I guess we can count West Coast! What a resume! They've lost to every other finalist, like the pretenders they are. And yet they sit pretty at top 4 because, unlike us, they actually put lowly opposition to the sword. Point is, we had every chance of playing week two of finals this year with a match against Port at AO. Typical of the MFC, we completely [censored] it up in glorious fashion.

    It's infuriating to me that players are probably texting each other right now sorting out plans for Mad Monday, while the rest of us plebs go back to the usual Monday slog at work.

    This. All the anti-Richmond angst around Demonland is tiring. This year they had to put up or shut up. And guess what? They put up. Well done to them. More than I can say for our heartless mob.

    Exactly. We didn't miss finals just because of yesterday. We missed finals because we put the cue in the rack last week. We missed finals because we lost to North Melbourne twice. We missed finals because we let Hawthorn and Fremantle win by under a goal. We missed finals because we were regularly caught napping in the last 30 seconds of quarters. The season was dead and buried long before Round 23, and deep down most supporters knew it.

    I've read this sentiment all year. We still came out and lost to Hawthorn after losing to Fremantle. Lost to North Melbourne the week after beating Adelaide in Adelaide. Lost 4 of our next 6 after beating West Coast at Subiaco. Lost again to North Melbourne with our season on the line (and ultimately cost ourselves finals). We fell over the line against perennial losers Collingwood (4 pts), Carlton (8 pts) and Brisbane (13 pts) which most other teams put to the sword. All 3 teams finished in the bottom 6. We regularly lost first quarters by enormous margins and we regularly conceded goals in the dying seconds of quarters after switching off; we missed making finals by under 2 goals Like a broken record, nothing seems to change. Why will the MFC's latest disaster be any different? Because it's even more gut-wrenching than the countless other fuckups?

    Tougher i would like to see that Team is as weak as pis$ Same all year same last year Good win has done nothing but Bull shi# at lame press conferences may be he is part of the problem !!! Fair enough being soft for year one. He spent two years under Roosy playing good cop, no issues keeping that facade going another year. But christ there comes a point when the coach needs to let rip. Our players dumped an almighty excrement all over our club yesterday and if Goodwin has any pride (which I suspect he has in spades) he will not tolerate such behavior for long.

    The AFL will be creaming themselves right now. Essendon, Richmond, West Coast, both NSW clubs (ie. the AFL's two pets on a permanent dripfeed of concessions) and both SA clubs in the finals? It's a wet dream for Gil and his end of year bonus. Can't wait to see how they manipulate next year's fixture to get Collingwood back in the 8. They finished bottom 6 so I thoroughly expect every concession under the sun.
