  1. Had a problem with temper. Promised alot but never lasted in the job to actually see it through.
  2. The beauty of the Brock McLean deal is that it puts to rest the habitual whingers on this site that have periodically that MFC always gets screwed at the trade table and we never do a hard deal garbage. This has been a pearler for MFC....a pearler. Gysberts will have a fine AFL career. Brock's days are numbered in the AFL and his body battered from the little AFL he has played.
  3. On the money Snoop. Which indigenous community did Jason Dunstall hail from again??
  4. To be fair he was very good when not injured in 2009.
  5. So why didn't the other players vote Jamar into the leadership group? Maybe they didnt think he was......
  6. Good list. You could also add Watts, Trengove, Grimes during that time with Bailey. A number of players that havent developed have also shown their frailties in front of 3 coaches now (eg Bate, Newton and Dunn). Hmmm just might be the players arent that good.
  7. Our deadwood experience is only 23-24, its still young against most of the top 4 teams. So whats the solution to the forwards? Cook is still struggling to get on top at AFL level. The sub is a strawman issue because Tapscott did his hamstring in the first quarter. And its a worry when a touch player like Bate still cant get a touch in 3 qtrs. The only time the youth discussion is oveplayed is when its misunderstood. Collingwood pensioned off 28 to 31 yos that had become peripheral to their needs over the past year. Medhurst, Presti, Lockyer were bit players and had become redundant. The strength of Collingwood is dependent on the experience and talent of Swan, Pendlebury, Thomas, Didak, Cloke, Jolly, Ball, Shaw and O'Brien. All have talent, experience and over 100 games of AFL each. With a core of talent and experience like that how easy would it be for players like Blair, Wellingham etc to come in a play minor roles to these stars and look good in cameos. If they were playing at MFC they'd be thrown in the guts and made to play front line and get no real support from senior players. Collingwood improved dramatically because their core improved substantially and then was assisted by the ability to offload aging warhorses and replace them with fresh legs supported by an experienced army. I dont think Freo is a good comparison to MFC at present. While they have alot of injuries, up to nowe they have still had two front line A grade superstars playing in Pavlich and Sandilands. They have McPharlin who is nearly A grade as a defender. Which senior MFC players compare with that? How will they go without S'lands??? Howe would they perform without S'lands, Pav and McPharlin in addition to one or two other injured players who would be in their top 5-6?? Because thats the situation MFC is in now. Once again they have an older, more experienced and a better more balanced list than ours with a couple of true stars, some capable expereienced capable A to B graders and they have recruited well in recent years. If they had a full list, Freo would be a serious top 4 contender and have a far more mature list than MFC.
  8. I could not think of an easier out than playing him again this week. And also in a role he would have minimum impact given he is to "re learn" the caper. His issue is that he is not trying..period. How can a player get 9 possessions, squib efforts, give away goals and let his tagger/his direct opponent gain 22 possessions? I have already stated my view earlier in the thread. Thanks for the profundity.
  9. We had the 2nd most inexpereienced team by games played on the weekend like we have had every week. St Kilda had a total games experience of 2405. We had total games experience of 1446. Its been around that mark all year. Average age St Kilda 25.5, MFC 23.5 years. And if we could be playing Scully, Grimes, Trengove, Tapscott then the age and games drops further. We are held back by our youth because we cant get the development into them soon enough for them to take over and cast aside the NQRs you mention. Supporters will need patience, more than what has been shown on D'land this year. And injuries only make it harder. The collapse of the contribution by senior players only makes the desire for the transition to the younger talent greater.
  10. I dont think metrics measure passion. But clearly Saturday was not an issue. But there have clearly been games where our passion could be questioned. While this is ultimately referrable to the coach, questions will have to be asked out senior players. Newton has not delivered but was selected as a consequence of a terrible spate of injuries that has inflicted our rucks. Both Jamar and Spencer went down in the same week. Campbell is just coming back from injury. Gawn has had one senior VFL game after a 12 month lay off. Newton is our fifth option as the back up ruck. His efforts against North in the first qtr justified his selection this week. So which rookie would have been able to pinch hit the ruck and play forward? You are right to point out our fwds poor defensive skills. Both Bate and Petterd are poor defensively. And Bate a touch player??. He was played on the ground against Adelaide and when its party time, he does not touch much. Both Jurrah and Petterd give us more offensively. And if we are talking about speed then Bate does not have any. With Bate and Newton, in essence you are arguing the 21st and 22nd player in the team which is not going to make the difference. But what you do highlight is the limitations we have list wise and I think its fair to say that the continuation of Bate and Newton in MFC colours is unlikely.
  11. Excluding Davey and Newton, I thought the team was extremely desperate (and undermanned) against the Saints. Certainly at 3/4 time we were significantly ahead of all key vital stats against the Saints except the scoreboard. Watts aside, we had a side out there that lacked class in spades but not endeavour. And the improvements are going to come from having our class players, fit, getting game time together and developing. We have stalled with their absence and the collapse in contribution from a number of senior players. A number of the players who played on Saturday are not the ones who are going to be ones that break the games open.
  12. We may never actually have that true answer about Bailey proving it when 5 of the best players (and 7 of the best 22) in the MFC team are out injured and your highest paid player, leader and B& F winner putting in shockers. Unless he is a miracle worker, Bailey's cards are marked.
  13. Terrible idea. Make a creative player play a negator. May as well ruck him for 4 quarters. For what he did given his position in the team and the way he did it there is an important meassge in addition to getting him focussed on winning more of the pill. We need Davey back in the team actually playing with a bit of mojo. He needs to start the road back from Csaey.
  14. Hardly a vacuum. Notwithstanding Junior's efforts (and he was missing for a good chunk of 2010), the issue has been that performance of some of senior players and unavailability of critical players has made the issue bigger than it is. Green (potential AA and b&f) and Davey (past B&f) and the disappearance of other senior players in heavy traffic has probably highlighted how much we are dependent on our younger players to get us through. And the cream of youth (and talent) has missed alot of football.
  15. Chris Judd was traded for Kennedy, pick 3 (Masten) and pick 20 (Notte - No impact yet). Never let the facts. They lost Judd but they did get 2 players who were going to be very good when they matured.
  16. The article is typical Hun fluff but Bailey is a dead man walking as Coach. There will be many more media pieces like this until the decision is finally made. Mind you the Hun should have a field day on Rodney Eade after their 20 goal loss in Perth. I love it when posters started screaming "We are softest side in the AFL" and then this result comes in. I am sure they will ignore it. But FMD, WB are somewhere between a sedated small poodle and a timid chihuahua. Eade should be attracting the media interest now for a while.
  17. After his rising star year or just after his OP? He has never had any trade value because of his medical history and since then has been a MOR defender. Cheap as chips. Beamer might have limited upside but given the lack of senior harder bodies I dont think I'd be rushing to do that.
  18. That line of thinking really is as valid as Davey's marking effort. Every good player gets a tag. Its a lame excuse for his performances this year.
  19. The word is comprehension. And grammar isnt yours. What he said in a press interview was completely different to what he conveyed at the Coaching I/V and behind closed doors. rpfc is right. He knew a mallet had to be taken to the list.He did. And coaches and football executives are never "brutally honest" to the press. His actions in culling 2/3 of the list in 3 years is testimony to what he really thought. Indeed. Gave us another pick in the ND and PSD.
  20. I cant see how they could play him next week. Pathetic performance today. Went missing when needed most. His 50 metres at the start of the last was breathtakingly stupid.
  21. Both were offered short contracts on far less money than when Bailey arrived. And boy havent each of them proved Bailey wrong. Wrong again. Both players were contracted and move to the rookie list to allow us to take up two players from the draft.
  22. No your wrong. The culling started from day 1. To state that Bailey had no idea about the list in late 2007 given he was assistant coach at Port is so stunningly naive. Its laughable.
  23. Rubbish. Bailey got the job because he was brutal and honest about the list and what had to be done. He did not talk it up at all in the I/Vs. If Bailey had been honest to the press, he would have been howled down. When Bailey started pre season training for 2008, he had less than 1/2 the list fit to do full training. He knew TJ had to go and White, Robbo, Neitz and Yze had to be pensioned off. He worked out McLean was molasses.
  24. Given the way the game is played, Davey if he maintains current form this year wont be bringing up much interest. I'd like to see the Club try and rejuvenate him before we fire sell him.
