  1. touche, Trisul. i read 2019 rules and, of course, the wording has to be changed every single year (ffs). however, the free kick was not awarded outside the Playing Surface, so the additional text is not relevant. The issue remains whether or not "where the ball is at" includes out of play, and the rules are not clear on that. edit: i also don't think it matters (cos no free kick should have been given), it's just a minor amusement at 2 in the morning (rules-lawyering that is).
  2. The drop-off in agility is due to bulking up. Looks to me like they wanted him to perform the gorilla roll this season and it just hasn't worked out.
  3. ... except that's not what the rules say: the issue here is "at any location on the Arena" , because OOB is not on the Arena. edit: actually, it is: i still don't believe either free kick was warranted, but it's moot.
  4. just wait a while: that number's sure to come down
  5. ...and the game four days ago was hard-faught in the wet against the other best-side-in-the-comp. a crappy loss, certainly, but the sky isn't falling. ...yet.
  6. Something else i think worth mentioning is that the more changes that are made the more difficult it will be for the players to find the "cohesion" they so clearly lack atm.
  7. i agree, but it's not going to happen (Brown/2nd tall).
  8. I think vandenBerg is needed for tackling pressure. if vanders has to be dropped then ANB should come in. i want Jones in for his ball-use and accurate goal-kicking. I also think Fritsch and Hannan are too similiar — one or the other for mine.
  9. This ⇧. Lockhart was terrible. So was Hannan. Lockhart ⇨ Jetta. Hannan ⇨ Jones.
  10. A "Proud to Belong Guernsey" with Nev Jetta's number on it will some day be mine. A great idea from the club -- mementos are good.
  11. So I was a little off: they didn't so much give the world to Collingwood, as give us nothing. Same result though. I really am over this game. Incidentally, at the other end of the conspiracy theorist spectrum is naïvity.
  12. ...which is the actual reason why supporters yell "ball" and "fifty" and whatever else.
  13. Last year, when it looked like we were are real chance of making finals, facing Carlton in round 22, we lost the free kick count 5/20. Yeah... 400%. No team can overcome that. "No finals for you!" I unhappily predict that Collingwood in round 23 will get as many free kicks as they need to beat us. Why? Because Melbourne don't generate strong television ratings. "AFL" is a corporation selling an entertainment product. A few years ago (Hinkley's first year, i think) Port Adelaide were red hot and every chance to grab the flag. When they beat Collingwood in their first final, Gil said "that cost us a million dollars". The next week Port were put out by Hawthorn on the back of some truly outrageous umpiring (anyone remember those last few minutes? i do). I was a Juventus fan when Serie A exploded. It shocked me deeply. I denounced my team and fairly quickly lost interest in Football. It is well worth noting that the Serie A referees who were done for match fixing would never have gone as far as AFL umpires go week in week out. Our game has become deeply corrupted by its too-close relationships with television and gambling corporations. It's not hard to see... if you care to look.
  14. That's better. VFL standard at the moment. *being cheeky.
  15. No way is Petracca arrogant. He is certainly confident, which is a good thing, but not arrogant.
  16. The other side of the equation is the MRP. While we may love to see one of these cheats get straight-armed*, the guy who does it will probably get 4 weeks. Players are all-but-helpless against this tactic. Mathieson was effectively untacklable today: he had 8 contested possessions and 6 of them were free kicks. * anyone remember vandenBerg vs Pendlebury? that was fun !
  17. For me, what stood out in his highlight package was the absence of defensive work. He looks like Jordie's Bizzarro World counterpart.
  18. Melksham is a hard-working mid with a bit of speed who can play forward. It's really not that hard to see why the club would be interested in him.
