  1. CJ isn't fighting for that 4th interchange spot. He has sealed a starting 18 berth. He currently is our buzz player, and has probably been the best performer in the 4 or so games. moloney will play as will holland given the team we're up against. i dont see bizz or miller or CJ really taking a gehrig if gets going. bizz and ward are going for the same spot IMO.
  2. in the article about thompson's knee, it mentions hayes being on fire but him getting reported in the last qtr ...
  3. well said i'd love to put jeff white's mobility and smarts into mark jamar's body. as for the question at hand... backs - 6/16 mids -4 or 5/16 (behind westcoast, sydney and adelaide at the very least) forwards - 4/16, although at our best we can be the most effective in the league, at our worst we look awful and the "no neitz no melbourne" rings very true.
  4. In all honesty all ooze has to do is go hard at the ball tomorrow, chase, and just be committed. If he does he'll get picked. if he shows up uninterested and grumpy he wont be there against the saints. I'm praying that my once favourite player doesn't do the latter and allow his career to fall apart. Given what he is capable of, that would be criminal.
  5. http://melbournefc.com.au/Season2007/News/...px?newsId=39695 "Jared Rivers had done a good job containing Mooney in the first half, but was then rested after complaining of soreness." good news. appreciate the reports guys. I am really looking forward to a key midfield contingent of mclean, moloney, TJ, jones, bruce and junior this year. It should make us very competitive given the mix of players there.
  6. Byron and Brock back for saturday's game, http://www.melbournefc.com.au/Default.aspx...mp;newsId=39605 Good news. plus junior and green getting a rest. squad: Nathan Jones, Clint Bizzell, Ben Holland, Brock McLean, Matthew Bate, Brad Miller, James Frawley, David Neitz, Daniel Ward, Adem Yze Lynden Dunn, Travis Johnstone, Chris Johnson, Brad Green, Daniel Bell, Brent Moloney, James McDonald , Russell Robertson, Nathan Brown, Jared Rivers, Cameron Bruce, Byron Pickett, Jeff White, Ryan Ferguson, Aaron Davey, Mark Jamar, Nathan Carroll, Matthew Whelan EDIT: this listed squad and the description seem to be out of whack ... green and macca listed and buckley/garland not. spose this article has come from afl.com.au however ....
  7. I'm very confident that this intiative will have a substantial impact upon membership numbers. The $40 option was provided for the last few years but it wasn't counted as an official membership, and hence really served no purpose, short of a donation to warm the hearts of MCC members. Much different kettle of fish when it is counted. We should get to 30 odd thousand this year, and hopefully build on that in years to come.
  8. your idea has merit but as as you (and correctly i might add) liken the role to a swans player one must take into account the ground being played on. on the scg and smaller grounds it might work just as sydney have done, but on the wider expanses of the 'G miller will be better suited to the role. The more i think about it, i really think on a dry day playing miller and dunn may work, because they hardly play as conventional CHF's, rather both like flankers, one who runs up the ground, who stays around 50. for the saints game i would play miller. round 1, bodies going everywhere, miller wont take a step back (probably do something stupid in fact). he also gives us a bit of cover given the tall nature of the teams that the saints will likely play if something bad happens down back. as for johnno starting on the bench, i dont see why it wouldnt happen seeing as though it was the case more often than not last year.
  9. My Round 1 Team. B: Whelan Carroll Holland HB: C.Johnson Rivers Bell C: Johnstone McLean Green HF: Yze Miller Bate FF: Robertson Neitz Davey Foll: White McDonald Bruce Int: Jamar Moloney Ward Jones TO be honest i dont know which out of dunn or miller will play and should play. Both are getting game time and quite frankly have done bugger all in the pre-season. We are heavily reliant on neita. always have and always will be. Pickett wont be ready for round 1. Round 2 or 3 perhaps. He must be awfully unfit if he cant get a game in a practice match where there are 26 players playing. That leaves, Sylvia, Bartram and Pickett unavailable due to injury/fitness. Next in line for selection is Dunn, Bizz, Brown, Wheaters and Frawley. Whats interesting here is that we have a multitude of mid and medium backs but our midfield depth aint great, and our forward line depth is even worse.
  10. Do you understand what physical attributes a CHB must have? i'm not even gonna touch the neitz thing. tripe.
  11. cheers mick, appreciate them. check out the tree white still has to wear on his right shin. i think we often forget the difficulty that this injury has caused him.
  12. we are unbeaten on our last two occasions there though
  13. Appreciate it Fan. I agree afl.com.au is hopeless in their assessment. That report sounds like someone who was reading periodic updates on Demonland could have written it. For those that went, how did Rivers play? Did he play as a true CHB or a opponent-less floater?
  14. I dunno how accurate this is, but this is really good news if it is true. if we get bruce and TJ firing we'll be top 4 especially with the addition of brock i know not to get carried away with pre-season and really the result is meaningless but players now will want to have some form to take into the season, and if i could have two players to take good form into the season, these two would be high up in my list.
  15. Appreciate the summary OMR up by 26 pts now
  16. cheers mate, thought as much, but was a tad concerned because neita is so critical for us,
  17. assuming that is just because they want to keep him fresh? anything more than that YM? cheers champ 15 pts up, tiges grabbed one
  18. To my knowledge it is not on the radio. One PRE poster suggested that we took our key players off towards the end of the qtr when they kicked 3 quick ones Neita doing OK apparently - starting to "get away a bit" from bowden
  19. Melbourne 8.6.54 to Richmond 6.7.43 at Half Time
  20. according to Punt Road end we're up 6.5 to 2.4 wouldn't have a clue about goal kickers/best players. again according to them these are some of the match ups: Raines on Yze, King on Davey, Bowdenl on Neitz, Deledio on Miller, Gasper on Robertson EDIT: Damn you YM for being 2 mins faster!
  21. this would have to go close to being the most nonsensical thing i've read on this board. mark riley on sen today (who incidentally impressed me greatly with what he had to say) said that this was a decision was a mutual one made by ND, PG and SH. it has its pro's (mfc not tied into something which at the end of 07 may not be working, forces the playing staff and group to perform because if ND is out many favourites will go) and cons (see all that ridiculous media surrounding hawthorn and clarkson not long ago), but at least the decision is made and now we dont have to worry about it. you shouldn't need to worry about contracts when there are games to be won.
  22. we were never going to kick a winning score without neitz and robbo, and anyone who thinks so is completely deluded. the score as scoop amongst others so rightly pointed out is irrelevant. to get match fitness into the 12 or so guys who will line up in round 1 is by far the most important aspect. little else matters. we wont have more handballs than kicks in round 1, the match commitee aren't that stupid.
  23. bugger all...i completely agree with you, just stating what is perceived as strength of millers AS COMPARED TO dunn. i personally think he would be better used as a tagging tall defender, that is told to stand next to at all times a pavlich or a tredrea and that way if he gets 3 possessions and the forward 8 possessions and a goal then it is almost a win for us
  24. CJ to start, and jones to be on the bench and that is a fantastic team for Round 1. For me the only contentious point is dunn or miller. The dunn clan will argue and the miller brigade will contend miller is better. At the moment miller offers physicality and dunn skills/goals.
