Petty is a first year 18 year old key back. Baker is an outside player who is 3 years older. Hard to compare the two.
-
Being it sounds Smith trained, Stretch for Baker would be the only change I would make. More speed on the outside please. JKH has had his chances and has not shown a want to really run without the ball.

Billy Stretch - Stress Fracture / Toe
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Shocking timing for Billy, really looked the part on the weekend and added something we dont have much of. There needs to be an inquiry into foot problems at our club. -
Great. 54 point win and people want up to 3 changes and we're back to Spargo being out just cos...... Unless someone doesn't come up its no change for mine.

I find ANB's missed executions frustrating as most but you cannot underestimate his work without the ball. You cant have a team of purebreds without some workhorses. You cant say you are a team built on behaviours without rewarding the behaviours. He once again led our distance covered at speed and many other repeat run acts. He does what the coach expects for all the time he does not have the ball (run as hard as you can for as long as you can) and that is likely the reason he makes errors at times with the ball. People should give up the gas on seeing him dropped. Aint going to happen this week and I suspect at any point in 2018. Joel Smith went forward due to a hip complaint and he stayed on to assist our rotations. I would make no change unless injury (Smith for more run in Hannan/Kent/Baker) or stupidity (Lewis for Vince) or any who don't recover well. I did note that Harmes once again went to the half back as part of the rotation when Smith went forward and really looked the part. If we are to persevere with that then potentially whichever mid/small best deserves to play.

Add Billy to that. Good to see him cut through with some speed and move the ball forward. All the changes played their part. -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 16

6. Brayshaw 5. Oliver 4. Salem 3. Gawn 2. Petracca 1. Fritsch -
We just play dumb football. Our player forward of centre just get in each other’s way. We should be 45 up but our incompetence leaves them in the game. I am still unclear on what we are trying to do.

Casey Demons v North Melbourne VFL - Round 14

Tyson had a Tyson game. Could not ask more of his application and he kept racking it up but he turns back into traffic, handballs at peoples feet and tackles with his arms not his body. I may have gone too early on Baker last two weeks looked a lot better on a wing uses his pace well to creat an option. Great to see Vanders back he is a serious unit. -
Unlike previous weeks the team just feels right. Time for the two Christians to stand up and show some maturity and consistent impact. I think this is the reset we should have had post Pies game plan wise that we should launch from over the back 8. Although if TMac starts on a wing.........

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 16
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Who would think it is that hard to have someone hold back. Being it was not always Lever It is beyond me why you need to pay someone as much as we did Lever to remind someone to hold the line. Petty last week was nervous and found himself under speed he would not have seen on a bigger ground than he would be used to defending. He seemed to get continually caught between players in the AFLs version of no mans land. Wont be the first or last to have a poor debut but a great learning experience to build on at VFL level. -

So stoked that this is televised again this week. Looking forward to seeing how AVB and McKenna go first up. -

You could have Parish over Oliver as well. Win some/Lose some. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 16

This goes along way to seeing our forwards clunking the long or low ball. Removing Weid and Hannan means no more seeing Hogan and TMac fly in a pack with two others. Hannan did it continually last week when we need him at the base. -

Run Run Run. Good to see we are finally attempting to address our deficiency with some more balance forward, mid and back. Also good to see rewarding form. Stretch deserves a good run at it, Spargo should never have been out and Jeffy will never put on a show at VFL but 7 tackles should say enough about intent. -
POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 15

We did not lose due to effort more so stupid selection, stupid moves and stupid execution. Playing no crumber cost us the game. Playing Tyson once again on a wing cost us the game. Playing Viney as a tagger for three quarters cost us the game. Gawn was immense as was Viney's last quarter but we need to go and find some dash. -
Out Petty, Tyson, Weid, Hannan In Frost, Stretch, Spargo, Garlett We are too top heavy. If T-Mac can play 5 on a wing he can play 5 as a relief ruck.

Add Hannan please -
Any side that can run beats us at the G it’s as simple as that. No crumber and plodders on the wings. Simple as that.
-
Looks like a first gamer. When that is the first comment you mention after watching that I would think you would mean it’s had an impact. Both have looked good at VFL.
-
Petty is not the reason we are losing. No crumber. No midfield field run and connection from the wings and dumb players going for the same ball (air and ground) is.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 15
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
They were more like us this time last year. Were only just starting to look like a decent team with a game plan and squad many were still questioning. Stuff being copy cats. Just like they chose to lets do it the Melbourne way. -
Lose today and don't deserve to play finals. Best of luck to Harry Petty on debut. I think our backline looks more balanced on paper and we should see Hibberd and Smith play more natural running roles. Still think we are one outside runner and one crumber short for my preferred set up but on a dry track it shouldn't be the difference today.

Essendon VFL v Casey Demons - VFL Round 13
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to WERRIDEE's topic in Melbourne Demons
Can’t see Vince back unless he swaps with Lewis. Thought Keilty was excellent and Frost good, stretch first half very good but little impact on second half. Baker covers the ground well and wins the ball well but doesn’t do much with it yet. I think the rest are nothing more than back ups to our best 22. -

Was named in our bests 3 of the first 4 and then the finger issue. Should have missed two-three weeks minimum but stupidly played through and has not recovered his touch or confidence. Was looking good quarter 1 last week settled back as a pure forward. I expect him to get back to something like his best this one.
