CHANGES: Rd 10 vs North Melbourne
With Harmes now confirmed out for 2-3 it is clearly a choice of Bedford or Dunstan I suggest. The other item I think that goes this week in Bedfords favour is the fast deck at Marvel.

Spargo Signs on Until 2025
Well done Charlie and well deserved. An integral part of our team and the best inside 50 kick in the side in my view. Will be great to see his next levels of development as he further builds his strength and stamina.

CHANGES: Rd 10 vs North Melbourne
If Harmes is out then I would look to Bedford in with ANB/Sparrow more midfield rotation time.

CASEY: Rd 08 vs North Melbourne
Strong first quarter. JVR, Dunstan and Disco Turner all good and all amongst the goals.

GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs West Coast
I just want a W and no injuries this week and next. We need to continue to stick fat with our defensive first stylings and not deviate and start playing Hollywood footy the next 2 weeks.

Angus Brayshaw Re-Signs Until 2028
I think as inside bulls they are close to on par with each other with possibly Brayshaw shading Viney offensively and Viney shading Gus defensively. However Viney complements Oliver and Trac better than Brayshaw would. Brayshaw as he has shown offers high quality versatility in role both wing and half back that Viney does not possess. My read on Gus is he cares more about winning, legacy and team culture than being the man and/or $$$ in a middling group. As long as he is fairly compensated I reckon post new CBA this will sort itself out. If he chooses to go elsewhere for whatever reason then best of luck to him. He has given his all for the MFC, been through dark times individually and collectively and will always be known as a key reason we were 2021 premiers.

Where does Gus play when Salem returns?
I would leave him at half back at least initially to see how it works with Salo. JJ is holding his own on the wing and Rivers whilst not coasting would be the one in danger if this is the case,

VOTES: Rd 08 v St Kilda
Whilst I did not put him in my 6 great to see Hunt called out for another great nullifying role on a dangerous small.

GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Great structure and game plan, the quality of your best 6 players and the depth of your bottom 6 is usually what wins games. Unless we lose more today we are still in a good position particularly if it stays dry.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Let me know if I have this wrong but is he not out of contract this year? Is it not the team courting him the one firmly sitting with what would be first pick and unlikely to move much higher than second pick? If he goes this year we possibly get next to nothing or significantly under market value, you can kiss 2 top 10 picks or the like good bye. I still dont have concern yet as any player with worth currently out of contract would wait until the CBA is done, as would the club but if this happens now it will not be pretty.

POSTGAME: Rd 06 vs Richmond
Agree, it was predominantly where we took the shots from and a lack of settling and rushing some kicks. We seemed obsessed with kicking to contests deep and tight in the pocket. Particularly first half too many times where our forwards did not separate and therefore the only space was deep and wide or no one leading at the kicker for an easier set shot. Part of that is the way the Richmond backs set up and block you centrally but most of it was just not thinking it through.

CHANGES: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Hunt has been less about the eye catching run and more about quietly doing his job on some quality small forwards this year. Whilst still weeks away I would suggest Rivers is the more likely casualty when Salo returns at this point. This assumes we choose to leave Gus back and JJ on a wing which is a fair chance I suggest.

TEAMS: Rd 06 vs Richmond
Goody has already said we wont play 3 key forwards. I wont put any thought into the 18 named on field and just absorb the outs and wait until the final 22 is announced tomorrow. Shame about the 2 out for protocols but it is what it is. Will be interesting to see how they cover Viney’s midfield time.

CHANGES: Rd 06 vs Richmond
Brown is clearly our number one tall forward and must come in. It then comes down to do you think it is more likely that TMac can get back to form of 9-12 months ago or Weid can start to more consistently impact contests and the scoreboard. I personally would like us to invest in Weid and feel whilst TMac gives his all has lost any ability to get off the ground and a step to gain separation on the lead. That was my original thoughts on reading between the lines of Goodys comments during the week. However he has a history of preferring team consistency and minimising change. He also talked up Bedfords performance when he played earlier in the year only to omit him. I feel the reinforcement of Weid doing the right things but TMac being known and preferred at least for a while longer is where selection will land tonight.

POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs GWS
How good is it that we had a 10 goal quarter but the crowd (and me personally) appeared more amped for May’s two spoiling efforts on the wing as he came off and Sparrows gut run and tap to Fritter. Good to see Picketts and Spargos effort so far this season turn into goals and possessions. Petty back is so important as it frees May to play a higher, more aggressive defensive game.

CHANGES: Rd 06 vs Richmond
Let me know where I pick the keys up from. Listen to Goody’s press conference and read between the lines and I suggest Weid stays to partner Benny. That would be the change I would make as well. In BBB Out: TMac

VOTES: Rd 05 vs GWS
6. May 5. Gawn 4. Trac 3. Spargo 2. Viney 1. Harmes NB: Whilst not in the votes so good to have Harry Petty back in the side and was a big reason for May’s domination.

TEAMS: Rd 05 vs GWS
Petty looked good at Casey last week and played a fair chunk of game time. He is clearly best 22 and you get best 22 in as soon as they have the run in their legs which they must think he has. This is no disrespect to Tomo who has been serviceable in Pettys absence.

COACHES VOTES: Round 4, 2022
Great to see JJ gets some recognition.

Toby Bedford, Kade Chandler and Bailey Laurie…
If the question is who has the most upside it’s Laurie. If the question is who is least ready to play AFL It is also I Laurie. I am super impressed in the attributes he is showing and really want him to get a full year of VFL mid forward and another big preseason until he is considered in the picture.

Toby Bedford, Kade Chandler and Bailey Laurie…
Not dimissing him at all. I just think if he is playing mid forward they will want to see him get to more contests, work harder defensively and attract more than single figure possessions before he is considered in what is an area of the ground we have kept most stable over the last 18 months. He has some serious tools but I suggest they are playing him in that role at VFL as this is best for ours and his development for when he is ready. I just dont see it being this season. Another pre season and a year playing mid against mature bodies and he will be well tooled to play high half forward at AFL level.
